Willie Rioli "on leave" from Port Adelaide after social media post

Well, Koch played that angle on radio this morning, so the club is turning it into a race issue
that's nuts - you can't make death threats, doesn't matter whether you're black, white or brindle. This actually undermines society's ability to deal with racism because it is manifestly unfair, and everyone knows it.

He needs time off. he clearly struggling. The AFL should give him 3-4 weeks.
You wouldnt pick him to be that sort of person. Bumped into him a number of times at Ned Kelly bakery and he gives the time of day to everyone. Friendly and up for a chin wag.
Why is it not surprising that Willie Rioli frequently visits a bakery 🤣

I think you're absolutely wrong. He's been outed for threatening other players multiple times, not ahem sliding in with his knees that one time.

I'm not saying there won't be anyone who suggests booing Rioli is racially motivated, but they will be a minority.
How can I be "absolutely wrong" and then you agree with my take in the next sentence?
I said that if people boo him, others would call them out for being racist, instead of the obvious that he is a flog.
You disagree, then say the same thing.

He is threatening to have his people come after players outside of the game. That goes beyond violence.
WTF

Edit: entire Port board agrees this is a media attack and many players threaten each other during games.

I wouldn’t worry about the Port Board, the collective IQ of a gnat.

Geez in the context of this matter Port's next two games are pretty high profile - Showdown then home game against Geelong.

Can understand the AFL not wanting him playing those games - would be very febrile environment. Then again handled well it could be good for him.

But ultimately, the threats to an opponent, day after a game, warrant a sanction. Line clearly crossed, and when dealing with people who are making bad decisions, boundaries are important and indeed helpful.

Geez, players cant have a bit of banter any more. Just a bit of big noting in my opinion. Gamesmanship some might say.

Im glad the AFL didn't take any action. Enough is enough already.
Your idea of "satirical comedy" again?

Colossal mismanagement from the AFL. Absolutely obvious that they have differing standards for different players and we all know why; the AFL is desperate to be seen as inclusive and supportive of Indigenous Australians. That's a great sentiment, but when it compromises fairness and equal treatment, it's a problem. This is as clear cut case as you can get, and if the AFL has any shred of credibility then Rioli must be stood down for multiple matches.

I love rioli but in all seriousness after the Hawthorn game this year the club should've quietly told him to ease off of social media and stop pouring his emotions out into it. It's a terrible platform to do so and it only attracts more backlash.

I feel like if he has made threats like this during games in prior years and the players wished to not follow up then it probably implies that he wasn't taken very seriously, and players shaking hands after games naturally cleans up most on field banter anyway, but doing it via a text message to another player was pure stupidity. If it was said jokingly it is still poor taste, but if it was a sincere threat then it's a legit concern.

If he was getting racist comments after the Hawthorn game then he will absolutely get more for this (and to clarify there are definitely very justified criticisms of rioli that aren't racist, but as we've seen in the past, the valid critiques will get mixed with the toxic ones)

Rioli is our most talented small forward but his head is not in the right place, he was already troubled before arriving at port but I feel like the club still hasn't done enough to break his bad habits or give him the support to control his emotions. It's too early to presume his retirement, but if he can't properly get himself some help, or even if the club fails to get it for him, then I doubt he will be playing footy much longer. He's already missed games in the previous years through injury and family reasons. I would like to hope that it doesn't end up the clubs fault, but the club has failed in so many fronts under the current regime that nothing is beyond them

Wondering if it is true that the AFL were genuinely unaware on the Close / Roberts incidents, or if they were doing their Sergeant Schultz routine as usual.

If the former, one can only assume that someone from one of those clubs felt the need to speak up given the latest occurrence. Hope they do not get victimised - some may see it as un-Australian but in this case I think just letting it go would just mean it will happen again and again; and it clearly needs to stop.

I did hear that.
Is there anything about that club that isn't cringeworthy.
You seem to have such a weird obsession with hating Port. Every port related thread you spit sludge like this, regardless of the topic.

And shame on Riolis actions but you trying to act like you're on some moral high ground calling for his suspension when you literally support the same club that Swan and Maynard played for. Pretty pathetic dude

Brace yourself, this has been discussed. While not confirmed it has been widely speculated that he used blue Gatorade as a substitute for urine for asada testing purposes.
That's what I'd heard and always thought was too bizarre to be true.
I was reading about it last night & it claimed that he swapped the test with a "clean" urine sample that he had "in" a Gatorade bottle. Sounds much more likely right? No flavors involved but may have been kept in the fridge.

I make no apologies and do not hide away from the fact that I dislike Power very much but lets look at the fact just for a second.
Rioli made premeditated threats to a player. It isn't the first time and the weak club that you follow, knew this and has done zero about it.
Instead Koch comes out and plays the race card, so that poor little Willie can all of a sudden be the victim.

Now you call out the fact that I support Collingwood, as some kind of deflection mechanism.
If you want to consider something as "pretty pathetic", perhaps look inward at your own club.

Willie needs a spell. Can’t be going around threatening or implying violence outside of the playing field regardless of your race. There are avenues to address racism or angst but taking it into your own hands is not on.

Willie’s got form off the field from his eagles years, so he’s skating on thin ice as is. Reckon this is prob his last year in the AFL.

How many victimology cards can we play here. I mean, Laura "most qualified" Kane is meant to be front-and-centre on all this. The same day that we find out that "Whoops, haven't got an AFLW fixture prepared yet..."

Now we've got her displaying her extensive past experience gained running a university women's team by claiming Andrew Mackie is lying about informing her.

Frickin clown show. But of course, I can't criticise her because she's a w- w- w-... w***er.
