After being told by the club it's almost impossible to bring assistants from interstate clubs, I think it's a fair question to ask what the **** Ken and Davies were doing when Carr seems to be able to with 400k less in the budget to use.
You decide to bring this point up in the thread about us signing an SANFL coach?

What's this, we should be picking some guy from a Vic country league who hasn't really done anything but is a good human

yep a 'no w***er policy' is always good too, they can destroy a club
Nahhh, that’s where SACA went wrong for to long, no passion, no ruthlessness, look at the successful Collingwood, Richmond, Hawthorn and those Kevin Sheedy Essendon teams. Plenty of W@*k3*s in amongst that lot. Don’t need 23 Private School, Silver spoon, pompous buggers running around for us.

Can we stop talking about Hinkley in every thread, he is gone, don't let him take up any more room in your heads, time to move on, its a new era.
Hey, if he wants to be on the payroll next season, the 2000 club memberships worth that we’re paying him with can continue to take pot shots at him.

He is gonna report to lord Jordy as his minion of WINNING.

Seriously though, good shit. ****ing hell we were so stale and had massive experience, quality and skills gaps across the board. These are filling right out.

What a good start to the Carr era so far. Nail landing Dew and we are looking really good.

Great to sort these before players return too.

Yep we were just going thru' the motions this year but these developments show we're clearing the mechanism.

Sure it's about bloody time but welcome nonetheless. It'll take time to gel of course but it's got me thinking of

re-engaging with the club again. The dark cloud hanging over me n Ports was doing my head in.

Forgive the interruption here, but a bit of info about Darren.

He is a Blue Mountains lad, hardly an Aussie Rules stronghold. He and a number of fellow Katoomba students travelled down the mountains to play with the nearest senior club (Penrith - my club) in the early 90s. From memory, that was his first introduction to playing the game competitively.

I remember him being a very, very good player, particularly for someone with no extensive junior background in the game.

His priorities in those days were cricket however, he was a keeper who played for NSW Colts and (as recently as 2001) for the South Australia 2nd XI.

It looks like at some stage he decided footy was his preferred career path though, and it makes me so happy to see that he has made such a success of it. Good luck to him at the Power.

I get that it’s a good appointment but….

Leaving Jordy aside, how is it good to have an opposition analyst who has never played at AFL level and has never coached or been an assistant coach at AFL level? Isn’t the point of an opposition analyst to scout ahead and recognise what systems and plays the opposition are implementing. This guy has probably seen less AFL football live than me over the last 3 years.

Playing AFL and analysing AFL games are 2 different skillsets.

How much NFL did Bill Belichick play? How much NBA did Gregg Popovich play? How much top flight soccer did Jose Mourinho play?

The AFL is behind in how it views these things and this is a smart appointment. Someone who has found success purely because he is a good coach and has continuously improved himself as a coach. Compare and contrast to the slew of unimpressive former Port players we've had in assistant coaching positions over the last decade.

Jordy wasn't opposition analyst, he was football/video analyst and probably only compiled the individual player videos for game reviews.

Under Daddy Donuts there was no opposition analysis because Hinkley openly admitted he didn't know much about any opposition players. Terrorizing Lachie Neale was the limit of opposition planning under Hinkley.

I'm also confused about "stoppage coach". Will we have a separate midfield coach? A seperate ruck coach? It is great to get good people in, and Reeves fits that description, but seriously!

-The ruck coach tells Sweet where to hit it
-The stoppage coach tells Butters how to get it
-The midfield coach tells Burgoyne how to get it after that

The handball coach, the dodge to the left coach and the sledging coach come in after that.

And we still don't have a goal kicking coach.

I was going to mention Belichick who started in the tape rooms like some of the lot of coaches in the NFL.

That pathway is not as clear in AFL but Reeves has found a way.

Reeves seems to have some footy nouse and game day tactical appreciation.
Think if he's working with all our mids, he could improve the guys in the Magpies - which would assist them in the SANFL comp, so not necessarily a bad thing IMHO.

Speaks well, Im sold.

Mentioned he comes from a different background to the other coaches at the club and it will be good to bounce different ideas of each other.

Also stated that he watched Port train closely during the pre-seasons and has ideas of what he wants to implement in the midfield.

Dedicated stoppage coaches have been a thing for a while now, a lot of clubs had or have them

something more advanced than “work harder for longer”, and more meaningful than “taking some learnings” and less accepting than “someone’s gotta lose” and less conciliatory than “they’re a good team”

I’m all in.

He does speak very well, if he was your coach you would be impressed. Cuts to the chase, no BS, no hesitation.

He also said he does watch both Adelaide teams play to learn tactics to incorporate into his game plans.

He also coached Latrelle Sumner-Pickett when he played a few games at league level

Might have an input in wanting him at the club....;)
