The ramifications of the 2022 and 2024 GF are still felt to this day aye... in the back of the minds a select few had to go, you just felt it was a matter of time. The papers were stamped today, regardless of cost.

You can argue that making the GF is hard and it is, but how they lost left a big bitter taste in peoples mouths.

Nothing short of a premiership or two will make this worth it
Yeah, this is totally fair. We were pretty much guaranteed 2 flags in the next 5 years if we didn't do this deal.

IF they had made themselves known to be available before we recruited Goodwin maybe things would have been different. But as soon as we got Goodwin they were never coming us, that was obvious to a blind man given the bad blood at the Dees.
Again, I do understand that. I am more lamenting that we didn't get anything to fix our weakness which is the midfield

We got by far the best key forward gettable during this trade period who instantly gives us the focal point of attack we've been crying out for. How anyone cannot be happy about this trade is beyond me.
The best this year was him. Sure. 29. Injury prone. Not having his best years. And We paid 4 first rounders.
Yep.
We have no first rounders in the next 3 drafts.

WHAT THAT SAYS IS THIS.

He has to win us a flag in that time.

OR HE AND THIS DECISION IS A FAILURE.

Pure and Simple.

It’s just not as much value as you think it’s like the Cats “3 first rounders” offers

Can see them holding
I thought there was another offer that had two high firsts after they’d traded for another one and HH wasn’t included. May have just been speculated and not reality though - I wasn’t entirely keeping up all day.

There are massive positive roll on effects for the forward boys. Amartey and McDonald without pressure and a rank down in opposition thinking

And it starts a bit of a new generation

And even guys like Serong get to do a pre season against better key forwards than ever

The club needed a new era

And the stones on big Coxy far out he's taking his shot

Can any one comment on how many list spots we now have and how we'll fill them for example how and where the four academy players might fit in main list Rookie. And then perhaps also how the future picks we have fit in with what's likely from our Academy in the next 2 years. I know some of you are all over it.
Amd attached are the picks we hold this year and next 2 years

I feel pretty flat. I am NOT pumped to get Charlie at the price we've paid. Waaaayyy too much for mine. Very sad to see Ollie and Will go. Think we've put too many eggs in the Charlie Curnow basket. I do respect that we are trying something to win a flag and not just make a granny but I'm not a big fan of these trades. I'm happier about Rosas than Curnow because of the sour taste of the cost.
I think Hayward has been way underrated. He is a brilliant medium forward, very skilled, a great mark and crumber, very intelligent and very crafty. We do not have a like for like replacement. What he means to the culture of the club is also underrated.

I find it hard to imagine that Charlie is going to generate the same level of passion and excitement after scoring a goal as Wilbur did

I am so relieved that we mortgaged the next three years for an average to good FF.
Sounds like the synergys are there to be won.

I think Curnow's marking/contesting in the air will be more valuable than his goals tbh
Absolutely.

He will bring others into the game and can be a target through the middle pushing forward and for the smalls creating a contest in the air.

He will give Amartey and McDonald the 2nd and 3rd defenders, helping them significantly.

And gives the players the confidence to attack and know they have a couple of players (Amartey) who can win in the air or bring it to advantage.

Big price to pay, but I am pretty bullish on his impact on our game.

We still get our academy boys this year and have plenty of time to ensure we do over the next couple of years.

But sure, "mortgaged the next three years" certainly sounds a lot more damning than that.

They've got to want to come our way though.
Those two were never on our radar. I think what we have coming in is two defenders who are also mids. Carmichael and Kyle from the Academy. They might be young but they have tricks. King is a forward replacement for Hayward. I will miss Wil, he was one of my favourite players.

Their best offer reported was 10,22, F1 for Merrett and a second

Essendon were asking 10,22, F1, and FF1

For Merrett + a late pick or two

Pretty much miles apart. Wonder if the second wasn’t included whether there could have been a middle ground but those two wants are way apart
