When I was between 5-12 I fell in love with the game watching Tony Lockett monster blokes, Aussie Jones Sprint from the half back flank, Paul Kelly will himself into a contest, Jeff Farmer produce magic etc
If this is what kids need now to enjoy the game maybe the AFL should ask why their product sucks so much

Anyone else think the player entrance aspect of it looked pretty wanky?
Some of them were beyond cringe. Please ditch that if they bring AFLX back again next season

Thought all the people fighting over a stupid pink footy after goals were kicked was funny. Looked like some people got a little too rough trying to get a football.

If there is a single takeaway of relevance, it's that I like the idea of an indigenous team within a broader representative round of games.

Just call it the annual 'Origin' weekend and loosen the qualification rules a little (ie back up to a couple of generations or something)

Honestly it just a blatant example of race segregation. A better idea would be to not make teams based on peoples race and just make teams of people.

That was entertaining enough. The people of bigfooty take things far too seriously sometimes.

I play 9's these days because I'm too broken to play proper footy anymore, but I'd happily play this version of the game if it was available at community level. It looks like good fun.

Gee how dare a young team have such a good player in their team I suppose!

WA folk need to get over the fact Cripps just signed a new deal and many teams had the chance to draft him before we nabbed him.

Under your logic no team will ever get better that are down the bottom of the ladder because the best teams should be able to poach the struggling teams guns for the sake of seeing them play finals.

Welcome to the new age EPL and elitist thinking camp.

I think you might have missed the point he was satirising. And it wasn't like he made it hard to spot either, he literally spelled it out at the beginning of the post.

1 serious injury away from the whole night being a ******* trainwreck.
AFL: "we can't have state of origin because the clubs are too cautious to release players and risk injury"

Also AFL: "we can have this mickey ******* mouse circus game with star players and the clubs have no concerns about releasing star players for it"

Geez, i had forgotten how excruciating match day threads were. Thanks for the reminder.

Nah, he has more tickets on himself than were sold for the game tonight.

I guess a 5 time AA, premiership defender shouldn’t feel good about himself. He should be a miserable, under achieving dick bag like, i dunno.......yourself?

Gotta say it left me a bit flat last night. I understood it always going to be light entertainmant but it was all a bit too contrived. The players seemed to enjoy it, and it wasn't the lower paid players that I expected to chase the cash.

I preferred our scratch match against the Swans in the morning and the first look at our draftees in competitive action.

The mindboggling levels of sheer, whining negativity are really something to behold, aren't they? The 'whinging pom' has truly been taken over by the 'whining Australian'.

What was crowd? Can't seem to find it.

I’m not a fan of AFLX, however, i’m not gonna talk anyone down who did enjoy it etc. It’s a concept designed for kids.
Gotta love people who watch stuff just so they can hit social media etc “just to be outraged”.
You don’t realise how bigger w.ankers Aussies have become until you go overseas. We are just continually whinging, outraged and uptight. Pretty sad really.

Yep, we are born in a heavily isolated, cushy, rich, western paradise (compared to much of the rest of the world), with a MASSIVE sense of entitlement and sucking on enormous silver spoons.

Well don’t worry, right now we are on the verge of having a socialist style government. And policies are gonna come in which will * self funded retirees and mum and dad investors etc. So, we’re gonna drag a few back down a few rungs rather than actually doing what no one has the balls to do (apart from Trump who is taking China on - and no, not a Trump voter) which is tax the big multi nationals.
So the current whingers who are whinging about not getting a go etc, guess what they are gonna be doing when they pass 40 and are trying to set themselves up for future retirement etc. They are gonna whinge about how messed up it is when they were the ones who ****ed it in their 20’s.
This sense of entitlement is gonna get a real big reality check down the line.
Hang on, am i whinging.........but yes i agree, we have it very good in Australia and need to loosen up a bit.

I thought it was better than last year. Last years i couldn't watch at all. This year, i had it on while i did other stuff and it even made me stop and pay attention at times. So for me, It was better than I expected it to be.

Make it state of origin next year and It may have my entire attention.

I enjoyed it more than last year too, especially the last two games where the players got a little bit more competitive it seemed. Having the higher skilled players with more skill helped too.

It's easy to criticize and dismiss given all the cheesy paraphernalia that the AFL have lumped it with, but IMO AFLX has more potential to be entertaining and hold people's interest if somehow more intensity was present. Last night, at least for most of the night, there wasn't a lot of competitiveness. But people might change their mind if tackles were stuck, there was hard running back with the flight to spoil, etc. It was no doubt more open and less congested than regular footy, which I enjoyed.

As people were saying about Tom Lynch, Cripps has given plenty to the Blues and should consider heading home to a stronger club if finals aren't on the horizon soon.

Finals footy Cripps is what we all want to see.

You won't be able to afford him.

Let me get this right, please set me straight if I am barking up the wrong tree, you think Labor are 'socialist' and you think trump is taxing multi-nationals properly? Please tell me this is not what you think.

I watched all the games and they really sorted some of the players in my mind, I never knew just how good certain
players were and not just the obvious ones. Without being Bulldog bias that Bontempelli goal was pure magic and
well worthy of a goal of the year nomination.

The welcome to country was adequate, but the dance afterwards was too much. The rules were loosely implemented
and confusing to watch, but the concept of a game that requires less players and less space makes a lot of sense at
a time when short and sharp seems to dominate.

A look at the origins of our game is interesting and it is difficult to see how we arrived at the game we play today, but
people still flocked to watch. I will change that a look at ANY sport will reveal the same thing even if they introduced
jousting again the equipment would be vastly different the real question is does the changes improve the sport ?

It does appear better to play than to watch.
