4. Hawthorn - ended the 2018 season strongly however, the Mitchell injury is a significant blow.

It’s my opinion too, but I’m every bit as confident as last year

Hawthorn will not only win the premiership, but Clarko will borrow from the Beveridge playbook and give Tom Mitchell his medal just prior to lifting the premiership cup.

strange comment considering Melbourne finished above Hawthorn last year

I'm assuming the OP meant ladder position. anyway assuming melbourne did (finish above), would that be the first time since the turn of the century? Millenia even?

There is no assuming, it is a fact that Melbourne finished above Hawthorn last year. I mean unless you think Richmond won the premiership and West Coast finished 2nd?

Melbourne finished above Hawthorn in 2017 as well. I know you are trolling but your looking like a fool

After the weekend I'd be:

- Happy if I followed Hawthorn
- OK if I followed Melbourne
- A little worried if I followed Adelaide
- Very worried if I followed Essendon

Just like last year Hawthorn will win a lot games in which they go in as the underdogs, so they might win some games against Geelong, Essendon, Melbourne, Sydney, West Coast etc.

With Scully and Wingard set to return over the next two weeks there’s more room for improvement.

Mitchell will return during the back end of the season sometime round 20-21.

If Hawthorn can beat a near full strength Adelaide away then they really should beat the Bulldogs in round 2 at the MCG and North Melbourne in round 3 and could be 3-0 to start the year.

Wow is Scully back already?

Could turn out to one of the all time bargains.

I'd still bet on Melbourne to finish highest among these four teams.

Hawthorn were obviously the best performed team over the weekend but I still believe that overcoming Mitchell's absence will be difficult across an entire season. It is a big gap to fill.

I have no faith at all in Essendon. On paper they should be a very good team but there is a reason they haven't been relevant for the best part of 15-years.

Overall I'd place them - Melbourne, Hawthorn, Adelaide and Essendon.

It is our issue I believe. A mix of older and younger players which may be too taxing. needs luck and continued excellent coaching, maybe agressive rotations. Lost Stratton and Omeara before the melbourne final and Mitchell during it
Id suggest the teams playing melbourne essendon and Adelaide in the next few weeks will feel fortunate, as they have started badly

Perhaps. Clarkson on Talking Footy said he will play in the next two weeks either round 2 or 3 will be his return.
Surely he would have a game or two in the VFL first considering he has been out for 12+ months.

So that would put him in line for an AFL return about round 4-5. Still a bloody good effort to get him back that quick

Hard to argue with anything you said. Agree 100%

I think Box Hill return is the intention.
