I think we will win. Tight tussle to half time. We waltz away in the third. They come back, but too late.

This one will be won in the coaches’ box. They are a young side, starved of success, riding a wave. We figure them out- we win. We don’t- we lose.
We are actually older than you. From the Brisbane board:
  • (0 to 10 games - Brisbane 0 vs. Port Adelaide 4)
  • 0 to 24 games - Brisbane 3 vs. Port Adelaide 4
  • 25 to 49 games - Brisbane 5 vs. Port Adelaide 5
  • 50 to 99 games - Brisbane 7 vs. Port Adelaide 4
  • 100 to 199 games - Brisbane 6 vs. Port Adelaide 4
  • 200+ games - Brisbane 1 vs. Port Adelaide 5
Extra stats:
  • Average games played - Brisbane 94.5 vs. Port Adelaide 100.9 (= -6.4 games on average)
  • Average age - Brisbane 25.5 vs. Port Adelaide 25 (= +0.5 years on average)
  • Average height - Brisbane 188.6cm vs. Port Adelaide 188.2cm (= +0.4cm on average)
  • Average weight - Brisbane 89.5kg vs. Port Adelaide 84.6kg (= +4.9kg on average)

Its compulsory a Motlop kicks an amazing goal at the Gabba.

This is the best goal I've ever seen in the flesh. I was at the Gabba for the game in 2007 at the other end behind the goals. Saw Derek Kickett at the SCG in 1995 or 1996 attempt a similar kick in the right pocket using his natural left foot but it hit the goal post.

Hodge skews things a fair bit. Take out Hodge and replace him with a 25 year old 100 gamer it changes markedly and even if Hodge and Westhoff are taken out you get a fair change to things.

Back to enjoying the idea of playing Brisbane.
Think its line ball but a little concerned about how we work Ollie SPP and Pig. Maybe Pig or Ollie spend more time forward? Don't mind S Gray in the middle of the ground.

Ollie to play a blinder.

Port by anything and I'd be grateful.

You can thank me for the bag Daniel Motlop kicked at the Gabba in 2007.

Late in the first quarter the Lions were well in control and I gave Motlop a serve at the section 29 fence calling him a useless chipscab. I still remember the look of utter bemused “who the **** are you” contempt he gave me before he went on to kick 6 goals for rest of the game including a couple of pure arse goals IIRC. It was like he went into “he’s on fire!!!” mode in NBA Jam.

Can’t remember if he had a go back at me during that time because I had my head pointed very much down.

Do it today or it didn’t happen.

I moved to the upper tier on the wing a couple of years later. Less tempted to run my stupid mouth off up there.

I have no feel for this game at all. I picked Brisbane but obviously want us to win.

Brisbane have been patchy within games this season and that can be exploitable, but they also knocked over the reigning premiers on their home deck and controlled that for patches. They’ll be hard to beat at the Gabba.

We have had a great win against Melbourne (since devalued a little bit given how bad Melbourne are right now), and beat Carlton in a pretty dour sort of scrap. We have a lot to work on. Going in without Marshall structurally worries me.

This is a great test for us to see where we are at, and if we can get out of today with a win then I’ll be pretty bloody pleased.

Right, now, off to the airport

Wider oval may mean we set up and move the ball more like Rd 1, which should be an advantage.

However humidity will make the ball greasy and more fumbles might make it more contested like the Carlton game as our high disposal style will create more opportunities to fumble - either we reduce the risk by being more direct or back ourselves in and see how we go.

Obviously hoping for the win but mainly want to see consistency with how we move the ball like in Rd 1 and 2nd quarter vs Carlton (where we got our game going in conditions that suited it before the rain).
