Very raw still but playing at this level for a good block of games will do way more for him than playing in the SANFL for another year. It's the thing about trying news guys, some guys may not dominate the SANFL but they rise when they go up a level and have the best players around them. After all it's a team game and you're only good as the team around you to a certain degree. Thought ROB was very good on Sunday and hope he can continue to trend up as the improvement from this match since the Geelong one was quite substantial already.
Yes, some posters were overally critical of ROB after his 1st & 2nd games, but we really can't judge whether or not he will make it after a decent block of games. The Jacobs injury is a blessing for player management as he will now get a decent go, so we can make a decision one way or the other.

Good to have a ruckman again who can run & jump unhindered...

Too funny

Funniest thing is what a shit tattoo it is. Looks nothing like him

Geez... this threads become a bit of dumpster fire in the past couple of pages..

Might as well throw some petrol on it..

I agree with Pea Nut....

I like Murphy, big fan of him. Great endevour, tackles hard and always gives 110%... but... his first four games this season have been bog average.. not AFL player standard.

And one good game against an opponent that will most likely be bottom four after the minor rounds, with his team dominating, doesnt all of a sudden redeem the last four games for murph... sure, he kicked a few goals and did some great things but he didnt set the world on fire.

I wouldve liked to have seen stengle replace murph for the suns game.. and would still like to see stengle come in for him for the saints game.

But it aint gonna happen now and i hope murph takes this opportunity to back up his game against the suns with another good one against the saints....

Think theres some serious pumping up of murphs tyres going on.. lets see how he goes next weekend.

I think even the people disagreeing with Pea Nut pretty much acknowledge his first few games were poor, they are disagreeing with his analysis that this game was poor. Think for all his endeavour, doggedness and ability, Murphs will probably be a fringe player and we have better in the shed, I reckon he was very lucky that there were 2 concussions in the side last week but in the near future I can see him and Knight making way for Gooch, McHenry and Jones

Good: Greenwood, CeY, Brouch and Sloane forming a human wall that drove the ball forward all day. Contributed very well in that order.

Smith amazing. Keath solid.

ROB built all day. Has a very good second half.

Bad: laird and Gibbs disposal are still quite iffy but they are getting plenty of pill.

Ugly: Lynch. He should be under investigation for abuse of the football. His disposal was cringeworthy.

Tex new what he did and he didn't have to do it. He lined up a young player with a young body and hit hard in the kidneys and ribs. Could of been career ending. A young player that was turning it on.

Deserves a report for unduly rough play. Watch him brace himself and then push into Murphy. No need for that final movement, all it did was make the force of the collision stronger and more accurate.

Tex stood up for his younguns.
Rubbish. Harbrow went hard at the contest as was expected of him. Both players came off sore but ok. Tex should always stick up for his mates. As soon as Eddie got the kick Murphy jumped up, he pointed at Eddie and smiled. Courageous by Murphy but there was nothing in it. Watch it again

I do think it's been a very insightful and interesting game especially for those players who are polarising.

Looking at some of the stats was very interesting:

Greenwood
Disposals: 18 @ 67% Accuracy.
Contested Possessions: 15
Score: 2.1
Pressure acts: 15
Tackles: 1 (0 inside 50)
TOG: 88 minute
Metres gained: 146m
Clearances:3

This stood out as a good all round game from Greenwood and a good first up effort. His ability to impact the scoreboard and many other areas in 88 minutes is pleasing. Nothing on its own stands out, but the combination of all those stats is impressive given tog.

Laird:
Disposals: 28 @ 82%
Contested: 5
Score: 0.0
Pressure acts: 10
Tackles: 1 (0 inside 50)
TOG: 108m
Metres Gained: 408m
Clearances:1

This said workman like to me. Metres gained was good, but nothing else really outstanding, mostly uncontested. Played a role, was reliable when needed. Link man.

Smith
Disposals: 27 @ 85%
Contested: 5
Score 2.1
Pressure acts: 6
Tackles: 0
TOG: 105 minutes
Metres Gained: 674m
Clearances: 1

This is the perfect free running half back game from smith which is apparent from the metres gained and low pressure acts. He was given free license here to just run and create and the fact he was accurate and able to hit the scoreboard made it a really good game from him.

Knight
Disposals: 18 @ 72%
Contested: 7
Score: 0.0
Pressure acts: 15
Tackles: 4 (3 inside 50)
TOG: 95m (56% in defensive half)
Metres Gained: 99m
Clearances: 1

I think the pressure acts were good considering he had 3 tackles inside 50 but considering he spent more time in the defensive half, didn’t impact the scoreboard and only gained 99m, to me it looks like he did a lot of pointless running. Not a great game imo.

Murphy
Disposals: 14 @ 64%
Contested: 9
Score 3.0
Pressure acts: 16
Tackles 5 ( 2 inside 50)
TOG: 95m (50/50)
Metres Gained: 295m
Clearances:0

Clearly a good return for a small forward. The 16 pressure acts, 5 tackles were good with the 2 inside 50 shows good pressure. The metres gained showed that he roamed up and down much more effectively than Knight did. Needs to clean up his disposal but a much better game overall.

Betts
Disposal 14 @ 57%
Contested 11
Score 6.3 (11 score involvements)
Pressure acts: 11
Tackles 2 (1 inside 50)
TOG: 109m (92% forward)
Metres Gained: 238m
Clearances: 2

For someone to spend 92% of the time in the forward half (only 2 possessions were outside the forward 50) and get 11 contested possessions and gain 238m, to me says he’s a master at working in close. The score speaks for itself, but anyone suggesting he didn’t earn those goals is crazy.

Mackay
Disposals: 23 @ 87%
Contested: 7
Score 0.0
Pressure acts: 29
Tackles: 8
TOG: 103m (64% Defensive half)
Metres Gained:477
Clearances: 5

Hard to argue that this was a great game by DMac, the pressure acts and tackles along with the metres gained and accuracy of ball use made it one of his best games in a long while.

Mrouch
Disposals: 36 @75%
Contested: 5
Score 0.0
Pressure Acts: 13
Tackles: 2
TOG: 82m
Metres Gained: 291m
Clearances: 0

Lots of possessions but mostly an unconstested game from MRouch. Despite accumulating big possession numbers, not sure how damaging they were. Perhaps played more of a link role, but would potentially be disappointing by his lofty standards.

Sloane
Disposal 32 @66%
Contested: 20
Score 0.0
Pressure acts: 25
Tackles 6
TOG: 100m
Metres Gained: 477m
Clearances 7 (6 out of stoppages, 1 out of centre)

A monster game from Sloane. Made a massive difference in close and would be a key reason we started winning the ball out of the contest. Legitimate claims for BOG.

Brouch
disposal 36 @61%
Contested 15
Score 0.0
Pressure acts 19
Tackles 6 (1 inside 50)
TOG: 95m
Metres Gained 286m
Clearances 4 (2 out of stoppage 2 out of centre)

Pretty good contested game rom Brouch. Good clearance numbers and pressure acts. We need at least 2 midfielders to be working at this level to give us any chance of winning games. Better than his bother, but probably not as clean due to being in the contest more. Should be very happy with this return though.

CEY
Disposal 29 @76%
Contested 12
Score 0.0 (9 score involvements and 2 goal assists)
Pressure acts: 31
Tackles 8
TOG 96m
Metre gained: 347m
Clearances: 5 (3,2)

Underrated game I think. Has legitimate claims for 2nd best midfielder on the night. Excellent impact in close with team high 31 pressure acts and tackles. Considering the metres gained and clearances, he had without a doubt his best ever game for the AFC.

What do people think of Lukosius?

Smooth mover, excellent skills. Quite agile.

Don't think he'll be taking many contested marks in the near future.

Should GC get him in the weights room so he can compete better - like we did with Tex? Or should they develop him as that roaming half forward who covers the ground and is too agile for opponents his height? Asking for a friend.
Was pleased to see him get his first afl goal at AO...even though it was against us. Have fond hope he will return one day

Never ceases to amaze me how some people, posting here for 10 years, who sell themselves as the most astute global operators of both the administration and football departments have never tried to take on senior roles at the club? Or maybe they have?

Chapman ****ed up. Stop being a melodramatic bitch, again

No he wasn't, and no he didn't. I even explained why. All you said was that he was "awesome". You can't justify that. He might be courageous and gives 100%, but you need a whole lot more than that at AFL level, especially as a small forward. The Suns and Carlton have a bunch of triers. We have the likes of Ned McHenry in the two's.

Our issues so far look to be a lack of urgency and commitment. I think Murphy led the way despite his faults and I think he was the spark that got us going. Finally.

We pumped him up because he FINALLY did what we've been asking for a month.

He deserves as much, but that's the level he has to keep now. Get us a couple of goals and apply pressure and you stay in the side.

Agree on Stengle though, he's done enough now.

Murphy has been doing what's expected of a small forward role every week bar hitting the scoreboard and he hasn't been alone in that regard.

Yep, Im all for flying the flag, but you've got to pick your moments, and that wasn't one of them. Harbrow couldn't have done much differently in the circumstances.

Greenwood - looked like he never left the side. Midfield looked better, forward line had an added dimension..... welcome back Hugh.

BCrouch - I love watching him play, despite the fact he and Matt look for each other no matter what. The hard running he did was fantastic and long may it continue

Knight - Another nothing game from a guy who must be on the leaderboard of the Gold Pass Award.

MCrouch- Looks to have found his range with disposal again, isn't wasting as much ball.

Gibbs - Speaking of wasting ball, Bryce did it a bit again. Looked much better than previous weeks but there's room for improvement.

Kelly - Played a solid game, but I'm not sure we really need him in the side, at least not every week. Still, can't fault him much.

Sloane - Can't fault him at all really, other than a poor shot at goal at the southern end. Worked his backside off and appeared to benefit from the extra inside mid help.

Talia - At first I thought he had his colours lowered by Wright, he didn't really. Marked the ball extremely well and looks to be moving better. A massive gain on last week

Walker - That's better. Played like the leader he is, commanded the forward line and took some great marks on the lead.

Mackay - And who supplied some of the passes ?? This guy. When the intensity went up in the 2nd it was David who led the way. We know what to expect next week but he's had 2 good games in 5 now.

Hartigan - Doesn't need or deserve to be in the team. Waste of a spot.

Eddie - Probably got given 3 of his goals...... but I don't ****ing care !!! What more can you say except thank you Mick Malthouse for allowing us to experience what we've have done since 2014.

Atkins - Played like he knew he was on thin ice. Really good all round game, even put in defensively.

Lynch - Already said another "almost" game. When will almost not be enough, he could be the next name to drop if we lose a couple more.

CEY - After a solid defensive effort last week he was superb this week. Finally played like the big **** he is.

Laird - Much better and much more composed.

Milera - Will miss the bloke while he is out.

Smith - Vintage Brodie, say no more. That long right bomb..... brilliant.

Berg - What he did he did well, and that chase on the members side was awesome. Deserves another chance.

Keath - Another huge game from a guy coming of age as a footballer. Plays with aggression too

ROB - That's what we want to see !!! Played as if he was in a SANFL game and you could see the confidence growing by the minute. Lacing out berg for a goal would normally be the highlight of the day.... but some bloke in 18 stole that.

Murphy - Already been spoken about, but that's the level he has to keep now.

Pyke - Special mention to Don, he quickly recognised we were having another mare and sought to rectify it from the bench. Keep them playing like they did for 2 1/2 quarters and you'll win the faith back that you've lost. Oh and don't pick JJ..... or you'll erode whatever is left.

True, but with the players in the SANFL we have.... he needed to and I'm glad he did.

Brouch is just a good hard natural footballer, great to watch and so glad to see he still has a turn of speed

Liked the 2nd gamer Berg’s intent to just compete and chase and got his reward with the great pass from our 5th gamer. Would keep him in for at least 4 games. JJ did nothing to stake his case for a recall.
Ithink likeROB he needs to know he has a spot for a month.

The difference in ROB knowing he has a spot for 4-6 weeks was vast. I see Berg needing the same shot of confidence

Good: 70 point win and we are now 2-3. Really believe that 2018 and the start to 2019 was all mental. The players aren't passed it, they are lacking confidence. Good to see Betts, Smith and Walker all have good games get rid of some of the rust.

Still a lot of improvement left in our game changing players - M Crouch, B Crouch, Laird, Gibbs, Lynch - The positive is that these guys are all getting to the right spots and getting their hands on the footy - which shows that its not a 'work rate' issue. Have a feeling this week is when Brouch and Laird dominate.

Ugly - That injury list is mounting: Brown, Doedee, Douglas, Milera, Jacobs, Seedsman - thats 6 of our best 22 out. The good news is that we can possibly get Milera, Seedsman and Brown all back by about round 12 for an assault on the finals.

Do we have three better 2 way runners waiting on the sidelines???

Yeah. Jones and Mchenry were pretty much 1 and 2 in the time trial. Have speed as well I believe.
