Sweet's coaches came into Season 33 with a suite of dour tactics, and these were amply showcased in Round 1, with only two sides breaching the 100 point mark. Itsmyshow kicked 6 behinds, as the Phoenix lodged their first Round 1 win since Hammurabi took that great intercept grab. Muddiemoose went off his block and accrued 5 frees against and not much else, but turns out the second most EXIE points for the round in what could be an excellent test case for our mysterious judges. The Dragons had 75 more disposals than any other side, which might augur well for their midfield unit's prospects tonight, save that they didn't get much favour from the umpires - just the second-fewest frees received.

Round 2 is where the wheat is really, umm, is it distilled from the chaff? What is this chaff business huh? Anyway, glad to be rid of it and living it up with all this chaff-free wheat! Anyone can win in Round 1, but to win in Round 2 is a special kind of feeling.

Cap booted 8, whatever GREENESHOOTS is called now received 7 free kicks for the second week straight, Senor M took 12 marks, and everyone had a lot of fun in what was a fantastic day at the distillery. Thanks for tuning in, up next is a bunch of boring stuff until the fun dials right up in Round 8!!

Round 3 was a mix of thrillers, comebacks and smashings:
1) The Swamprats had contributors all over the ground including GremioPower (112DT) , Ant Bear (106DT) and Catsnlakers (6 goals) in their old-school shootout victory over the Warriors
2) The Royals hung on in a controversial 3 point thriller over the Dragons. Skipper PMBangers (117DT) , Rookie Ligma (112DT) and spookism (6 goals) were all outstanding for the Royals, but Ashman OG (116DT) and Strigoi (116DT) were also dominant for the unlucky Dragons
3) The Bombers overran the Phoenix in the second half thanks to dominance from Pugsley (5 goals) , The Jesus (99 DT) and Metalcrusher (96DT)
4) The Gumbies remained undefeated in a 5 point comeback win over the Bears, as eDPS kicked 6 , GWS Goose (106DT) was dominant while Senor M (108DT) was outstanding in a losing cause
5) The Furies smashed the Wonders by 60 points, with brilliance from U2tigers (107DT, 8 goals) and ImissFrosty (88 DT, 3 goals)
6) The Roys lead at every change and thrashed the Demons thanks to multiple strong contributors including JackNah_8 (105DT) , Zevon (102DT) and Sterge (102DT) as Allikat and zackah capitalised with 4 goals apiece

The Dragons were 11th on the ladder, heading into their clash with the Swamprats. However they commenced their ascension up the ladder by grinding out a hard fought 6 point win. The Royals were leading the Bears by just 3 points at the final change, but kicked 9 goals to 1 in the last, to romp to a 43 point win. The Warriors didn’t turn up until the second quarter against the Phoenix, who kicked 9:3 (57) to no score – despite a bit of a rally, the Phoenix were comfortable 5 goal winners. There were 8 lead changes at the Colosseum, as the Bombers won a thriller by a point. The Furies and Roys couldn’t be separated at half time, but Stephen Dank must have visited the Roys dressing room during the long break – either that, or the Furies went home: the Roys getting home by 5 goals. And congratulations to Barrybran for beating the Demons by 10 points off his own boot - the Gumbies winning by 14 goals.

WALKER ThE StAr brought up 400 games, and fitzroybowiedog 300. spookism had a day out with 9 goals, as mentioned, Barrybran kicked 7, while Itsmyshow registered 5.

The first major individual medal presentation for the evening is for the Fred Medal, awarded to the leading goalkicker during the regular season rounds. It is named after Sweet FA veteran and founding member Fred, who served this board with great distinction for 415 games, still the 5th highest games aggregate. Previously the Alf Andrews Award, it was renamed to honour the great influence that Fred had over the league, especially in our formative years.

It is to no ones surprise that the Season 33 Fred Medal Winner is Bonz from the reigning premiership side the Dragons FFC. Bonz started the season with a 5 goal haul against the Roys and booted 70 goals for the season, just pipping Phoenix Itsmyshow to take out his first ever Fred medal. His biggest bag came in Round 9 vs the Bombers where he booted 11 goals.

Congratulations to the S33 Fred Medal winner, Bonz!
