This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

People really need to let go of the Butters obsession...

It's pretty disappointing to see the amounts of posts on trade night and the days after (you may not have seen them, because I deleted them immediately) from people whose first thought wasn't "Welcome to Hawthorn, have a great career!" but ""They're from South Australia, trade bait for Butters!!"
Well said - and well moderated!

Some of those posts may have been in jest but they wouldn't have sounded funny to Nairn, Schubert and LeRay, who, as some other posters have already noted, are human beings, nor cattle.

I have absolutely no doubt that the club recruited the three Central Districts lads with the intention of developing them into long-term Hawthorn players. Here's hoping they all become 200+ gamers in the brown-and-gold...

I had a thought last night....

If Butters is the prize in next years free agency / trade period, could it be possible that we have drafted 3 x SA players this year to support our trade hand for a deal with PA.

We now have quite a lot of attractive pieces in a potential Butters trade.

1 (HAW), 2 (GWS), 2 (HAW), 2 (STK), 4 (MELB)
Nairn, Schubert, LeRay
If we drafted players with the idea to trade them a year later for a free agent it would put a very large stain on the club. We may as well merge with the scum at that point. That said drafting players who might bring the player targeted to the club or keep them like it has been rumoured that port did for butters or dees did for Humphrey is perfectly fine. Shame we can’t get Caddy from the scum to partner Harley with him and the Wiz!

There's just no way the club would do that to the kids. The only way we'd trade them after a single season is if they really wanted to get back to SA.

People really need to get their head around the fact Butters ain't coming.
I hope nobody at the club has this attitude.

It may be unlikely, he may have other clubs as his first preference. But we should never give up.

Even if he signs a 9 year contract at the dogs next season. We should still try to chase him in 2027 and 2028 and 2029 and 2030.

Wouldn't you prefer to spend our time and effort elsewhere? Odd way of thinking.

We have a List management team for this.. What do you think they should be doing after trade season is over & over the next 6-7 months.

Staying in the hunt for top quality guys is not such a hard thing, especially when the agents managing them are also managing few others.

This doesn't mean we sell the farm. We can stay in the hunt and be reasonable in trade offers.

Jordan Lewis, in the draft pre-amble interview that was quite good, mentioned how he was continually on BigFooty looking at the draft feeds to see where he might go.

I want my new toys. I don't want Butters if it will cost us the culture
💯 and I liked what the Captain spoke about just a few weeks ago when asked about the Scum calling Weds manager with a big offer. ‘You try to create a culture and club that players love to turn up each day to train/play and will stay for unders’! No different to the 3 peat era where Hodge has said similar things many times.

If a Butters walked in on a long term millions of dollar scenario how would the others feel that are taking unders?

I can't imagine drafting 3 kids and then being like, sorry boys, off you go. That is an Essington act

Hopefully they feel that they are apart of a great culture that they have helped create, that they love showing up to train/play for their team and team mates and understand that for success to happen luring big name players is an integral part of that success, even if you have to pay them more to get them out of their current club. If they don’t like it maybe they can be that player that takes overs to go play elsewhere and think about what the players at their new club think about them while they are taking unders to stay.

We just did baulk at Trade cost a few weeks back. So you are wrong, we can baulk at tRaDe cost.

If any of those 3 draftees are showing delivering on serious potential, cost will vary very very fast.
Very different situation to wooing a RFA than a disgruntled player. Stakes even higher we can't miss 2 years in a row.
Fanciful to think the 3 draftees will play any meaningful role in any trade

The drafted Players are selected for us to be future proof. It has nothing to do with them been used as trade assets just , maybe, because a RFA may want to come to us. Fanciful thinking and honestly quite disrespectful for these kids and their aspirations to become solid high level players for Hawthorn.

💯 agree.

Bailey Humphrey should be our number 1 man for upcoming 2026 Trade.
Absolute Game breaker and potential Dusty 2.0!
Hell, if he is even Dusty 0.50 then we are set for a decade !!

Will Day only played 6 games for us this year. Wow that is nuts. For some reason I thought we had him for at least half the season.
Pretty sure he was out after that game vs GWS in Tazzy. That was the game played in crazy wind and Will kicked that ripper of a goal with it from about 65m out.

Seriously how damn disrespectful of the players we just drafted can you possibly be?

Do you ever think that maybe some things are better off remaining embarrassing thoughts than sharing them with everyone here?

Do better.
