Wonder if Tom lynch goes back to gold coast this year.

If Suns lose Walter or King, would make sense.
They wouldn't take him back. Burnt a lot of bridges there.

Could Jake lever be a player to chase, could organise the back half for us. Signed till 2028, Melbourne might look to move on from him, was dropped last year.

Cheers for the in depth response.

Trying to looking buy low players who can organise our squad who are also premiership players.

Who do you suggest?

We've got a bit of a weird list and injury profile atm so it makes it difficult to actually guarantee any UFA type player is a good fit.

I'd be looking to see whether we could get assistants from good systems, or retired guys from good systems to come in as coaches.

I'd have thrown good money at a Hawkins or Bruest to see if one of them wanted to come work with our forwards. Selwood the same in the middle. Pendlebury & Gunston when they retire.

There's not an obvious Hodge to Brisbane type play. Zorko is a UFA, Rampe & Lloyd both UFAs out of Sydney, Broad at Richmond. Geelong doesn't have anyone obvious. Would any of them play most weeks for us in 2027?

Your post got me thinking about Lachie Neale.

Front loading him to come in and set some standards. Tough little unit, that wouldn’t need to be a midfielder to to be effective.

Harder sell when a) he ****ed his wife's best mate & b) he's going to be wanting to spend as much time as he can with his kids, which will involve him having to spend time in WA, which means he's going to need some allowances that others wouldn't get.

Can he be effective anywhere except on-ball? Is he actually a leader?

I don't know the answer to either of these things.

I thought I heard a report that he’s open to playing in Melbourne, and st kilda will be trying to reunite Lachie and Ross

Do we have a MSD spot open? math's is a little iffy but;

36 senior listed (can have up to 38)

+

balance up to 44 maximum (8?), however conjecture is you may only list up to 6 'Cat A' rookies

there fore we have short changed ourselves 2 senior list spots?
we have 46 listed players incl 2 cat b rookies

Cat B Rookie - Nguyen, Bourke
Rookie Listed - Blakiston, El-Hawli, May, Edwards, Day-Wicks, McMahon, Will Setterfield

I count 7 Rookie + 2 cat B rookie
37 listed.

so its 37 + 6R
+1 Rookie for Martin injury
+2 Cat B rookies

missing player numbers 34 + 43

go to number 48 McMahon.

A not too early look at the end of the year, well, because

SENIOR LIST SUMMARY; 36 senior listed, can have a maximum 38

Not enough players being moved on.

Not enough players being moved on.
to be fair, I have a list of players who we should be asking to explore the option of playing elsewhere.

In my scenario, Merrett obviously moved on for a first and a second. Id look to 2027 picks as well in preparation for what a bid game will look like.

He could fill a role, obviously not a young rebuilding type but fits into the senior premiership winning player who can help out for a bit.

Despite the little off field blip with Neale, you would certainly entertain that if coming on board and helping a building side was something he was interested in at this stage of his career.
As much as we need to keep on the same draft path, we have we will also need to filter through a few older guys who are interested in a few years as more mentor role than outright win a flag.

likely most of the senior players

Merrett
Ridley
Langford
Redman
Parish
Wright

maybe
Perkins

Assuming your delisting
Gresham
Guelfi
Setterfield
Cox
Jones

It would actually enable us to bring in some experienced guys from other clubs and not harm the development approach with rookies. If a few of the senior guys chose to leave.

The only ones I would entertain keeping are Redman, looks like he gives a shit and plays more than he doesnt, and Ridley who, unless we get significant overs, is still a key piece to our best 23.

Those others I would have no issue moving on.

Perkins or Tsatas could be downgraded to the rookie list imho

Not the worse call this, but dees probabky want to keep him for that reason, they dont exactly have gun young defenders being held out yet?

I was thinking maybe Josh Kelly or Whitfield or Himmelberg from GWS

We need to target kids that arent getting a go, that have time on their side and just want to play, are also OOC

Jed Walter fitS this perfectly. Also Alex Davies, he absolutely has a crack and doesnt know any other way from what i can see, is different to our mids outside of Sharp

I also think there is a huge opportunity this year if a player whos had success wants money

Welcome Zac Bailey

Im not offering him 1.6 which i suggested 8 months ago now. Im upping that offer to 2.2 mill a year now

Its alot of money, but surely we are struggling to spend it. This isnt about winning in the next 2-3 years, its about be lucrative enough to others to come across in 2-3 years time instead of going to Geelong, Hawks, Pies or Dogs

Also if ben King is steadfast on returning home instead of doing 2 more years at the suns or going to a potentially successful side

2.5 mill a year, if suns match, we walk away

Realistically we are looking at another 9 delistings this year. (at least).
we have 3 picks this year in the draft, albiet with an almost guaranteed no.1 pick. Reality is, we will have to take a deal for Merrett (3 x firsts should do it this time) to continue the rebuild. Potentially take something for
My list below (just for argument's sake):
Out:
  • Perkins
  • Tsatas
  • Gresham
  • McMahon
  • Guelfi
  • Cox
  • Edwards
  • Setterfield
  • El-Hawli
Fair chance they get traded:
  • Merrett
  • Parish
Extensions (last chance saloon, depth):
  • Gerryeyn – 1year
  • Nguen – 2 years
  • Prior 1 year
  • Day-Wicks - 1 year
  • May - 1 year
Martin to come back!

Trade targets (1-2 year contracts):
  • Zack Bailey
  • Zac Butters
  • Jordan Butts?
  • Ryan Lester
    Lincoln McCarthy
    Lachie Neale
    Dayne Zorko
  • Jed Bews
    Mark Blicavs (1 of rucks)
  • Jake Kolodjashnij
  • Rhys Stanley (1 of rucks)
  • Jarrod Witts
  • Kieren Briggs (1 of rucks)
  • Mitch Lewis
    Harry Morrison
  • Darcy Byrne-Jones
looks like another 3-4 years of pain guys...
I doubt we're getting 3 firsts for Merrett who will be another year older.
