Jesus looking back pulling out of the Dunkley trade was one of the biggest parts of the position we are in, a pretty much sure thing at age 23 for two picks in a draft that had barely played footy that year just a ridiculous decision by the club

But that’s not the actual story though is it..

We didn’t pull out. There was no offer the dogs were going to accept from us because any picks they received would’ve simply been eaten up by a JUH bid. This is a false story that has somehow grown legs over the years.

The only mistake we made was the timing. We shouldn’t have gone after Dunkley that year, there was no point as there wasn’t an offer the bulldogs were saying yes to.

Dogs didn't want 2 x 2020 picks they wanted 1 2020 pick (cox) and 1 2021 future pick (Hobbs).

We probably estimated 2021 would be a lower pick, so held onto it. Not many would have tipped Rutten to make finals in his first year.

idk why Pickering would lie about why it didn’t go through Bulldogs wanted 2 picks we would only give one - we went on to draft Perkins cox and Reid, and then try and fill a Dunkley shaped hole with tsatas and Hobbs the ripple effects of this are much bigger than they appear if it wasn’t two first that year it would’ve been one and one the year after either way a better deal for us than what actually happened

Pickers has debunked this.

Dodo tried went back on his word and tried to change the deal. The Dogs were ready to go

And I’m saying Pickering is either mis-remembering or incorrect.
Regardless of what is claimed, the fact is a major part of the deal/our offer was, and had to be, a first round pick that year. And that pick had zero value to the bulldogs, with any pick going to be immediately chewed up & lost to a JUH bid.

Any claims to anything other than this literally don’t make sense, and are face/saving efforts for whatever reason.

Ollie Wines could be one to provide - leadership + Experience + possible coaching role post deal. (unrestricted free agent)
Wines, not getting picked this week, Carr Favours Will Brodie.

if Butters wanted to come here I would lose all interest as it shows he doesn't have good judgement. (would also probably cost us Arki Butler/HVH, Blake Justice, Bewick)

Butters will be 28 in 2029 which is when we'll likely be contending for the flag, if we're serious a star mid like him can set up a dynasty and is a no brainer.
We’re last in line for him

Watching any good team play its abundantly clear that you need a group off small forwards who are quick and who can run hard all day. We can’t just have 1 or 2. It’s one of the biggest weaknesses and one that rosa has to sort out asap. We need to look to bring in 2-3 over the next draft / trade free agency. We need to be playing a minimum of 3 every week. It’s your first line of defense, but also allows you to expose the opposition on turnover. We are so far behind the 8 ball on what every other team is running out as their forward line structure.
