Thilthorpe, Walker, Fogarty, T. Murray against Collingwood

Thilthorpe, Walker, Maley, O'Brien against Fremantle

I think we trialed it in the pre-season games too

only one of those is example of what this game is. I forgot that Maley stayed in for the freo game

Nicks is a panic merchant. We select to the opposition and play to stop their game style.

Agree, but Billy Dowling isn’t a small crumbing forward. They will chuck him in, get 3 touches and then dropped for underperforming. Then back to the SANFL for a few more months.

His best spot would be wing, outside midfield or running half back.

Yep, got it on pretty good authority it'll be a late change with Thilthorpe coming out for Nank/Dowling. 5 day turn around into the showdown and his back hasnt gotten any better.

I agree with your earlier post. Why would they put TT's back through plane flights if they plan on leaving him out?

Ideally Billy never does at this stage.

We've clearly made our decision that four years in, he's the at best case, the 36th player on our list. Much like Lachie Sholl, there should just be line in permanent marker put through him now.

Nicks is a panic merchant. We select to the opposition and play to stop their game style.

Coaching to the opposition is something you can never accuse Nicks of when it comes to selection. The dude is very much a put your best 23 as often as you can and sort it from there kind of coach. Though he does have a habit of being a tad too proactive with getting his depth involved (mainly thinking the 7th forward carousal last year) when things really aren't working instead of just being willing to sacrifice roles.

The best 22 most of the time has occasionally got him in strife, i.e. the Max to half forward flank last year against Collingwood (which is a great example of "fake depth").

Yeah. I think he would have been close to getting dropped for the Freo and Carlton games where they moved him to the forward line, but Cumming and Pedlar missing (plus Fogarty missing both) helped him retain the spot. He's been squeezed out now even with ANB out which shows he's slipped back a bit.

Basically three spots to go around between Pedlar, Taylor, Edwards and Soligo, with Ah Chee still to return. Can't see Soligo easily replacing Berry or Peatling in the midfield.

I reckon a fit Soligo is way ahead of Berry and Peatling in the midfield pecking order. Problem is it seems to have been a fair while since that’s been the case.

I think it’s form based but they are saying there’s reasons for it that he needs to overcome. He’s been unfit and/or carrying injury, it’s pretty obvious.

Maley played 50% last week from memory, that’s not much more time than backup ruck. 4 talls with 2 of them fringe at best is Pyke level ‘outheighting’ strategy.

Yup, and my answer to the follow up is I couldn't care less if you get that call wrong. Better to make the call, either way, then have someone linger on your list for an extra 1-2 years because you're umming and arring if they should be here or not.
