Hasn't played since round 11, 2018. Rushing him would be utterly ridiculous.
You mean we shouldn't list him to play in the VFL because he's not yet ready for the rigours of AFL, then change our mind last minute to bring him in to the AFL side, even though he's not even listed as an emergency, and then back him up again the following week on a short break?
Yes, I concur.

With Stewart (and Joe) you'd think there will be a fair bit of load management while they continue to rebuild their strength and fitness. I wouldn't be rushing either of them back to play in practice matches, VFL or AFL. When their training loads are at the right level, if they're pain free, then let them play. If not, keep the slow burn going.

Richardson described Ambrose's return as 'conservative'. By that measure he'll be full hover-parent over Daniher and Stewart.

Available for round 1!! Hasn't played for over 18 months due to OP (same as Joe), had surgery (same as Joe) and recovery specialists in Ireland (same as Joe), and now he's freaking available!

I wonder if he remembers what a Sherrin looks like...

So they're still playing practice matches even though the entire season doesn't start until May to prevent the spread of covid... 🤔

I mean I guess he wouldn't be playing in that if it goes ahead, so that he doesn't get covid.
Yeah, good point.

Not before May 31st. Not even any VFL training.
So what are all the players not playing AFL supposed to do to keep match fitness up?

Not sure. Same applies for all local footy.
Nah, they're going back on May 2 in the 6 metro leagues
Play AFL. Extended lists, short turn arounds between games, no one is going to play every game if they're 3 days apart.

Gym, running laps, etc.
Match fit. Gym, running laps doesn't keep you match fit.

If they're playing every second or third game with 3-4 day breaks between games, then training at the club and maintaining their fitness is as good as anyone in the entire league is going to get.

If they're extending the lists to 60 that's basically the equivalent of adding the VFL players to the AFL list for the year, and with an extended bench you could easily play half the list one game, rotate 2/3 of it for the next, and then rotate again for the game the next round, allowing for injuries and depending on recovery of senior players, whom I assume won't back up with 3 day breaks even if the whole game is shorter.

It's not going to be pretty but that's what it is, if we get it at all.

Lot are out to May 31 and that includes training.
"However, the AFL did make the call to postpone all Auskick programs and AFL-managed competitions and talent programs until May 31. All independently managed community football leagues have also been advised to postpone games until the end of May. "

VAFA Statement said:
In light of recent events, the Victorian Amateur Football Association wishes to advise its clubs and community it has postponed the 2020 season until May 2.

The VAFA Board considered all options in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and made the decision with the health and safety of all participants the fundamental priority. The decision aligns with all senior metropolitan community competitions following a meeting today.

I seriously doubt that's what will happen honestly.

I mean you can doubt it if you want, but I didn't just make it up. The AFL was suggesting it in their statement yesterday:

McLachlan also said:

- The first four rounds of the season would remain as fixtured (regardless of when they are played), but the rest of the 13 rounds would be "recalibrated".

- The potential of shortening game time provided greater flexibility to play multiple games in an "accelerated" period. It could include playing multiple matches in the space of a week.

- Games with no spectators would allow flexibility for broadcasters to play matches on non-traditional football days including Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

- The four-week finals series structure would continue as planned – with no date locked in.

- The fixture for the rest of the NAB AFL Women's competition remained unconfirmed.

- State league competitions and talent programs would be put on hold until May 31 in an attempt to limit the outbreak due to their "part-time" nature.

- A decision on the ability for AFL clubs to add players from state league competitions to a supplementary list would be finalised next week.

- AFL Commission Chairman Richard Goyder will chair a cabinet of club presidents to assist and lead the industry. It will be finalised on Tuesday.

- The League has every intention to play the Grand Final at the MCG. The first scheduled cricket match of the summer falls on October 25 with a Twenty20 World Cup match between New Zealand and West Indies.

- The AFL executive was working closely with AFL clubs on their finances to ensure clubs were able to work their way through this challenge.

- McLachlan confirmed that he too would take a pay cut.

We won't be directly adding our own VFL listed players, there will probably be some sort of draft where we can pick players from around the state leagues as we did in 2016 (but all clubs).
