Josh Weddle almost tore GWS apart in the last quarter and almost tore Adelaide apart in the last quarter. The move of playing him on a wing then shifting him forward is inspired.

Random one, but I thought D'Ambrossio has shown he has come a long way. Last year in finals Port sat on him, and the second he got it was tackled over and over, and had limited impact. Tonight he did some really nice work to wrong foot opponent to get free, and get some long kicks going our way to put Adelaide under pressure. He's quietly become quite tough in the contest and reliable under pressure as well. Not starring in as many games like last year, but he's improved to be able to play a solid role in a contested final and contribute like he did in some key passages. I thought his under-stated game sort of highlighted the much improved maturity of our team.

Finals are won in the middle
Obviously Newcombe was brilliant and been so in every final he has played.
But he got amazing support today from Ward, Worpel and Nash. (Are yousure we can't keep Worpel?)
Add to that Butler's game which was hard,inside and contested -. Left me feeling that with a fit Day and McKenzie in waiting our midfield situation isn't as dire as we thought (we are in a prelim right?)

Gunston was obviously the star up forward (despite Wiz's attempts to overshadow him with some outrageous goals/celebrations)
Battle was the star down back but the whole defence is working like a machine and kept themunder so much pressure and had so much composure when rebounding out - Sicily and Scrimshaw also had great games.

I thought Impey was massive all game and his courage and composure in the last quarter with those contested marks under pressure was something else. Such an important player


Finally a special shout out to Izaak Rankine - us winning means there's no fairy tale grand final and he can come back in round 2 next year.

Onward to the G - It will be difficult but this group has shown it can do great things - will need all the small forwards Ginni, Moore and McDonald to join Wiz in creating mayhem. A career best game from Weddle and Chol wouldn't hurt either.

...oh and can someone find and muzzle Jeff Kennett until next saturday morning - the last thing we need is some distracting BS to further fire up the opposition

Sam looked absolutely stunned, and the hosts giggled.

Playing like a top 10 pick that he was. Starting to see what he brings the table every week. Smooth mover, great decision maker and beautiful skills. He's the perfect accompaniment to the other brutes in the midfield. Imagine him and Merrett pinpointing passes every game.

CJs best ability right now is giving us the option to throw Weddle forward which has been destructive.

He's just not got the feel to play sub. Much better player when he starts.

Feel for CJ. The HTB in the square was rubbish, he had zero time to do anything and Hardwick should have knocked it through in the first place.
