Depends which youngster is available at 26 imo, I would be quite upset if Bastinac, Crichton or another long term decent looking midfielder was there and we took Ball.

I can;t understand all the excitement about Christenson.

From the footage I have seen (although limited) he looks too small, not overally fast or hard at it and looks to have very average disposal skills - no penetration on his kicks at all.

I've read people saying he has an x-factor and likened him to Ablett and Harvey - I can;t see this at all. He reminds me more of a poor man's Matthew stokes.

Taking him at pick 10 is a huge risk IMO.

With Scully, Trengrove, Martin and Morabito expected to go top 4.

At least one of Cunnington, Butcher, Jetta, Lucas, Rohan, Tapscott, Talia and Melksham should be available at pick 10.

In saying this I wouldn't be disappointed if we got Christenson (or Colyer who I like more) at pick 24 or 26.

I'm hoping people who have seen him more than I have will advise me of the upside in taking the gamble with him at pick 10 to make me more enthusiastic if this was to happen.

-Great attack on the footy and man in close - a prolific contested footy winner.He is hard at it, you have that totaly wrong. Has no fear.
-He is quick of the mark and ok over a distance. has good evaisive skills.
-Good hands at ground level.
-Makes things happen during games.
-Good kick over the short to medium distances but can deliver a few bounce passes.
-Kicking not elite but it is better than you described. Not a long kick but does kick on both sides. Loses acuracy at 40 meters or longer.
-Very good by hand in close.
-can play inside or outside
- generally makes good decisons in close and his second efforts are good.
- Highest average possession winner and contested possession winner in the TAC Cup this year. Was also the highest contested ball winner during the champ series.
-good leap and high score assist rate.

The two downsides for me are his longer kicking and his habit of kicking bounce passes at times. Also his skinfolds at draft camp where not great.
As far as being small goes i dont think it will matter.

Sorry but you have just comitted one of my pet hates. How do you really expect to judge a players worth of a few high light reels ?

On top of that it was highlights from what was probably his worst champ game even though he was a reasonable player on the day.

Now i know my opinion certainly does not guarnatee he is going to be good but i will back my opinion based on seeing him a heap of times over anyones who sits down and watches 7 minutes of You Tube footage.

Maybe you should look at Melksham's high lights from Vic Metro or Stevens Champ highlights , which will be short becasue he hardly touched it.
And while you are doing that take a look at Rohans highlights and tell me how many times he came close to hitting a target by foot against WA.

Sorry to be blunt but geeez bloody draft experts who have seen squat

Based on that, tbh I wouldn't be too disappointed if we grabbed him at 10.
We need guys who will clock up goal assists - we need guys who will win contested footy.

If he could sit in a forward pocket for a year or two while he bulks up, all is good!

Yep very good website. I use it a bit mainly becasue they get the same champion data stats that i do.

On Stevens he probably should be judged a bit less ahrsjy because of the ongoing groin niggles he has had this year. He has been a bit of a dissapointment to me as i saw a coule of his first TAC games as a 16 year old and i thought he would deliver more than he has.

Yes Rohan is quick but that is all he really has. Lighting speed. He is not a great mark, he does not win a lot of the ball and his kicking at pace is average at best. The kciking you saw in the Country game v WA was exactly the same as he delived in the limited possessions he got over the TAC Cup final series.
He may look flasher and have a bit more X factor but he is not as reliable as Christenson who was the Falcons best finals player and he played half back.

I never claimed to be a draft expert unlike yourself but I've played and seen alot of football to be able to make pretty good judgements based on seeing limited footage.

I used to think the same thing but the more i got into coaching and recruiting the more i learnt that just being a handy judge and having opinions based on limited vision is not ideal.
Like i said you have looked at highlights of probably his 13th or 14th ranked game of the season. Good judge or not you simply can not have an informed opinion either way based on 5.40 minutes of vision.
It is not an attack on your judgment it is simply how it is.

I could show you a higlight package of one of Melkshams TAC Cup games form this year where he had three times as many ineffective kicks as he had effective and on that alone you would not want to draft him either.
Or you could get to see the thrid quarter of the Country v Metro game where Christenson went into the middle and won 4 clearances in a row that resulted in 3.1 to set up the Vic Country win.

I will say it again it is not about you being a good or bad judge. For what its worth you could be a far better judge than myself but you are making a judgment based on a very small portion of a game that was not even close to his best 8 or 9 games of the year and the worst game of his champ series.

Hope Christenson does become the gun you think he will be. I'll be watching with much interest to see at what stage he is drafted - if it's low, I'll assume many of list manager share my doubts.

Hang on a minute , where have i ever said he was a gun ?
You give a bloke a few wraps and stick up for him and all of a sudden people are twisting it into me calling so and so a gun.
Have never siad he was a gun.
Have always aknowledged there are aspects of his kicking that are suspect.
All i have ever said about him is i think he will be a good 100 plus game player who can get things done in the midfield without being flashy or having a huge amount of X factor and that i do not think his height will matter.

If i was betting on where he will get drafted i would say between 15 and 35.

What i have said about in regards to pick 10 is that i think he is the equal of a number of midfielders who have been mentioned as chances to be drafted between 10 and 25.
And the proof will be how he actually plays when/if he gets to AFL level and not where he is drafted.

But you can understand why I initially questioned the reasoning - after seeing the footage (even though this is one of you pet hates) and noticing that besides yourself and BombersNo1, no one else has listed Christenson inside their top 20 phantom picks (I also understand that 90% of these people wouldn;t of seen him play outside the limited video footage also).

Basically I was just trying to get a bit more information on why you would consider him this high.

I doubt that we will take him at 10. I think he is more of a chance at 24 which is what most of the phantom drafts think.
I persoanlly do not think there is going to be a lot between a number of them which is why i will be probably more interested in how it all pans out overall than who we actually select. There is no doubt that it is a distinct posability that a player like Christenson who i would rate as only a minor reach at pick 10 could realisticly be there at 33 or even into the 40's.
It happens and like many others i have usually been in the 65% to 70% correct area as far as pciking players go so there will always be stuff ups like last year when i did not really rate Zaharakis becasue of some left foot kicking issues i saw in several of his tAC Cup games. Or to find another poor call i can say Jackson Hall who a couple of years ago i thought would have been worthy of a 2nd round pick but he never got drafted.

As far as Christenson goes i would think the best draft stratergy would be to wait for him at 24 and if you just miss then so be it becasue a few others will be close to his ability.
The thing with him as i know he has a few downsides but i have simply seen too many games where he has made things happen despite him being a player that has hardly any real X factor or super excitment. he just has the knack of winning an important clearance or kicking a goal or setting up a goal when his side is on the ropes. If i had not seen this during games then i would be with you in questioning if he was even a second round pick.
Anyway it is very easy to have a miss in the recruiting game so we will see.

Whatever happens it was interesting to see a quote from Knights at the end of the Hurley article in the HS today where he said what we have on our list after this draft will have to see us through becasue of the effect of the GC and WS coming in.
Pressure is on to get it right.

10. Lucas - It's possible, if not I am also completely fine with Tapski or Melky, if we get one of the three and I will be very happy.
24. Bastinac - I know he is a mid and can run forever, but stuff the details HIS NAME IS AWESOME!!!
26. Christenson - Everyone else is harping on about him, I might as well too! Like Crichton too, cool hair.
33. Panos - Could go late according to bigfooty experts (oxymoron), good on the lead and great set shot, he compares himself to Lloyd and has an obvious love for Essendon on the meet the player on AFL.com.

Outsider:
Troy Taylor, I think we have an awesome bunch of indigenous guys and someone with such talent would really flourish the at Essendon.

Based purely on reading afldraftinfo.com and limited youtube footage, as well as obviously Ant's write-ups, my order of preference for #10:

Cunnington (if available)
Talia
Lucas

I'm sold on Talia. Again, I'm not the most informed, but gee he seems impressive and slightly under-rated, if that's possible. Even his answers on afl.com.au were more impressive than most; he seems to possess a great work ethic and real hunger to succeed, not unlike Hurley.

Imagine having Pears down back, Gumbleton and Neagle up forward, with Talia, Hurley and Ryder all able to play anywhere. Not to mention Hooker and/or Daniher. Or Still.

I can't remember a draft when there hasn't been a tall go well before expected.
I reckon that will be either Talia or Butcher jumping up into the top 4 or 5 this year. Every single one of the bottom clubs would be interested in a good tall.
