Re: Draw Difficulty

Exactly. I would be pretty pissed off if (hypothetically) Nth finished a game ahead of us on the ladder and we had to travel to Freo and play an elimination final.....while they got a home game. What a crock.

Nth Start the season in theory +6 wins. Hawks play WC/Pies/Geelong twice -6 potentially. F.......me.......how is that fair.

Did you catch the NM draw for 2011?

They deserve a leg up for 2012 after that abomination.

Rd 1 - Perth vs Top 4 opponent
Rd 2 - vs Premiers (Pies)
Rd 3 - Bye
Rd 4 - Back to Perth again!

Then no bye until Round 21!

after reading all of this, its just.... weird.

the afl need to make it a draw, not a fixture, to take all unevenness out of it, then its purely luck who you play, nobody can whinge, and you draw who you draw, making sure that you play everyone once, and that you have 11 home games.

back to back road trips also need to be abolished.

Playing certain teams more than once needs to be abolished, can't see the AFL giving up 5 rounds of revenue for the integrity of the competition though.

Agree with several others North deserves a good draw after last year's horror.

And re Hawks, three interstate trips. Reckon the AFL called the trips to Aurora " half road trips" ( short haul and home games) so that brings it up to 5 = fair deal.

Hard to please everyone, but in general we all want competitive games and top teams playing each other more often than the bottom teams is also a good idea.

PS thought I needed a hair cut, but in hindsight maybe not.

Not sure why everyone is going on about a gift of a draw for Hawthorn

We play the other six members of the top 7, excluding our bunnies (Carlton) in the first 6 rounds and have two games against every member of the top 4.

In terms of travel, we play all interstate finalists from last year away.

I just don't get it. Sure, a few years ago, less travel was a big win. Nowadays, all the easy-beats are interstate teams.

People are acting as though travelling to play the wooden spooners (or Brisbane/GWS/Adelaide) instead of playing a bruising encounter with the reigning premiers (or Collingwood) would make our draw harder
Travelling once in the last 8 rounds is a dream draw.

Travelling 3 times in the last 6 weeks is a nightmare

Collingwood basically travel as much in the last 6 weeks as Hawthorn do all year

Pretty pathetic the AFL decides that trips to Tassie should allow you less away trips

As for does travel make any difference?

2010 Collingwood had a dream draw, 1 or 0 away trips in the last 10 weeks, won the premiership, clearly fitter than the opposition

2011 Plenty of late travel including a trip to Perth in rd23 before the Cats in r24, Geelong easy draw to end year including bye in rd22, Cats win the flag and look alot fitter

And these are just dumb!:

R17 Sunday
Sydney Swans vs. St. Kilda SCG 1.10pm 1.10pm FOX
Richmond vs. North Melbourne MCG 3.15pm 3.15pm SEVEN

R16 Saturday
Melbourne vs. Fremantle Etihad Stadium 1.45pm 1.45pm SEVEN
Port Adelaide vs. Essendon AAMI Stadium 2.10pm 1.40pm FOX

Why aren't the Vic teams playing interstate on FTA?

I guess you had to find something to complain about given your draw.;)

Try playing carlton, collingwood, geelong and westcoast in the first 5 rounds.

Wow I don't know how they managed to screw that up.

You can't fairly put that comment in there because the previous year they were a rabble, but yeah our fixture was pretty crap
(also we had only about a 5 and a half day break coming back from perth to play the Pies due to the time difference and sunday twilight match)

Hawthron only travelling 3 times is a total shock. I cant ebelive the AFL includes 'home' games they sold as travel. Pretty poor in my opinion

Agreed, North have twice the amount of away games interstate than Hawthorn do.

I looked at the draw for Adelaide in 2011 and thought the same thing.

After beating Hawks in Round 1, I noticed they had Port, GC and Lions twice and figured they had 6 wins right there, and I put a stack of cash on them to make the 8.

I won't make the same mistake again, no matter how good their draw looks on paper!

This I think people aren't realising this isn't the mid 2000's anymore and we are quite frankly poo at the moment.

After getting roally bent over in the 2011 Draw, North Melbourne deserved to get a good fixture for 2012.

Interesting that the AFL declared that ALL Vic clubs would travel 5 times for interstate away games, but the Hawks only have 3?

They only say travel interstate. Didn't say away games.

Anyone have a harder start to the season than this?

Geelong, Collingwood, Adelaide, West Coast (away), Sydney (Tassie), St Kilda.

Geelong had a similar start in 2011 and it set them up for the rest of the season. If you'd offered a Geelong supporter 5-3 from their first nine rounds in March, most would have taken it gladly.

St Kilda (MCG)
Fremantle (Patersons)
Port Adelaide (Skilled)
Sydney (SCG)
Hawthorn (MCG)
Bye
North Melbourne (Skilled)
Collingwood (MCG)
Carlton (Etihad)

They scratched out a few lucky/hard fought wins in that sequence and could afford to cruise after that, top four was sewn up.That whole crisis/opportunity thing.

Yeah. That St Kilda game turned it around IMO. Had you lost that, your start and entire season could've been ugly.

FFS they go interstate 4 times as a guest, 4 times a a host

not 3

For the benefit of me and all the other posters in this thread can you point out Hawthorn's 4 away interstate games for us?

I can only see three - WC, Port and Sydney.

No they don't, you have mentioned this a few times already and you are wrong.

They have 3 interstate away matches and 4 tassie home games.

Rnd 4 vs WCE @ PS
Rnd 11 vs PA @ AAMI
Rnd 22 vs Syd @ SCG

13 MCG Games
2 Etihad Games
4 Aurora Games

Hawthorn have been given an appalling commercial fixture, what happened to that 'disequalisation' fund?

8 of 8 interstate teams at home, 2 Melbourne home games vs Vic clubs.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the 3:15pm fixture on a Sunday leading into the 6pm news on Channel 7. With the longer quarters that have been eventuating over the last couple of seasons, on many occasions a game has gone just about to, or over the 3 hour telecast limit. To my knowledge the AFL haven't mentioned anything about shortening quarters yet.

Can't wait till we have a scenario where there is still 3 minutes on the clock, scores level and it's 5:59pm.
