I'd be estatitc with partington

Can't see it happening though (did say the same about wines, wingard and Butcher though so c what do i know

Crocker has talent, but he's one of those players that are a bit questionable mentally. Cos he's so aggressive, I feel he can take himself out of games easily through frustration. Pure white line fever. But wouldn't be upset if that's who we picked up with our first pick.

Still hoping beyond hope that Burton slides due to injury though.

I reckon the furthest Burton falls is to Freo. Still reckon Crows will pick him though.

I can definitely see Partington fall to our pick. Doesnt really have an outstanding trait, a bit vanilla. Those sorts of SA mids tend to fall.

Is Partington the Norwood kid who tore the Maggies to shreds in the Anzac eve game this year? I remember a small number 10 killing us, think it may have been him.

Edit, it was Persinos

What round will Bonner go at?

I think between 10-20. He'll be one of the steals of the draft, could become the best player from the draft imo.

Partington was originally a Magpie, but had to move to Norwood due to one club. Would be fitting if he fell to us and we got him back!

Try to explain how that works to a non-footy person:drunk:..........................come to think of it, try to explain it to anyone.

Knightmare has us taking Ben Crocker with our first pick. Seems a realistic option and sounds a likely Port Adelaide type.

I was asking Knightmare about small forwards, he mentioned Davin Ferriera

Also from From Emma Quayle's Combine Harvester

Davin Ferriera (15/09/1996, 174cm, 68kg. Wanderers/Norwood)

Small forward/midfielder

AFL biography: Small forward/midfielder who takes the game on using his pace and agility. Strong overhead for his size, he attends Rostrevor College in Adelaide after moving from Wanderers in the NTFL. Represented NT in NAB AFL Under-18 Championships this year and impressed in senior debut for Norwood in SANFL gathering 18 disposals and kicking three goals against Sturt.

"Davin's a fantastic kid. He started attending boarding school back as a 15-year-old in Townsville, but when that didn't work out he went down to Rostrevor in Adelaide and that's worked out a lot better for him. He missed his 18th year with us through various injuries, but went on from there to play some league footy for Norwood before coming back into our program. He played in a premiership for Wanderers this year as well and was able to make a real difference in the preliminary final and grand final simply by getting under the guard of the opposition. They didn't rate him highly and he kicked three goals in the grand final, a couple of them really nice kicks from the boundary. And in the first five minutes he attacked the footy ferociously, got cut open, went off, got cleaned up and went straight back on. He's a tough inside player who can play forward and back. He has really good goal sense and a few tricks up his sleeve. He doesn't speak much but when it's his turn he has no issue, he's just a great kid and a terrific leader."

KM mentioned Davin would be thereabouts at our picks

Pre draft is like pre season - all the kids sound great on paper.
If I could pick one trait for a draft pick - after taking into account his skills, it would be self belief and desire to become the best.

If we get Bonner, it will be pants down, lap around the table time. He'll go to Hawthorn at the very latest imo.

If Bonner gets to us I will start trying to work out what is wrong with him off field. To get to us he needs to be addicted to drugs and everyone know about it.

I wonder how many small minded places in the world would demand that a club that trains juniors close their doors
And give away a indigenous area that you have developed successfully for decades to a club with no history of developing indigenous youth.

Hi All

We’ve just finished our Phantom Draft on the Carlton Board.
Please feel free to let us know how we went on behalf of your team.................but be nice :)

From looking at your Phantom Draft I seem to have been under a misapprehension. I had been assuming that academy and F/S bidding were going to bring our picks forward but you have us at #39 where our current first pick is #32. The North Melbourne picks are a bit later than the current order, too.
Would it be correct then to say that if a team bids with a number of late picks then this pushes others back while their late pick takes up an early position?

Its all relative to where our picks are in the draft and where the academy teams pick.

Our first pick is 32.

Sydneys first pick is 33. They will have to match Mills in the first round, so that pick bumps us to 33. Brisbanes picks between 38-42 & maybe another will be used to select Hipwood & Keays. So those two picks bump us to 35. GWS will have to use the picks after ours for one of Hopper or Kennedy. So that bumps us to 36, possibly 37 depending on where both get bid on. Then you have both Rice & Himmelberg who may get bid on before our first pick, so that bumps us to 39.

We will still have the 32nd live pick in the draft though. The picks that move forward are our 2nd round picks onwards. Our 2nd round pick will likely move from 49 to 38, as there are 11 'Academy picks' that will be chewed up between our first and second pick. Our pick 86 could end up around pick 68 or so.

lol. Maths has never been my strong point.

EDIT: Actually my point was correct. I was talking about live picks in the final paragraph. So we will likely end up with the 32nd, 38th and 68th live picks

WA captain Greg Clark is another talli midfield option with our first pick. 193 cm 82 kg big tank, running power and a great work and improvement ethic. Sounds like a Burgo love child. ;)

If you'd have told me either last year or the year before that he would likely be available at 32 I would have been astounded.

His early development meant that his improvement curve looked pretty flat this year, but I still think can go on to be a successful AFL player.

I'm just going by phantom drafts and they will likely be all over the place by our pick. He may well be gone by then.

Saw a good article on him learning from a bath Jason Cripps gave him.

Greg Clark recalls playing on Patrick Cripps
“He just tore me up,” Clark laughed.
But as he watched Cripps dominate, it all clicked for Clark — now, himself, an aspiring AFL draftee in his final underage footy year.
Like what most in life experience, Clark learned just as much that day from failing as he has done from any of his successes — prior or since. And he’s had his fair share of achievements, including being part of the AFL Academy, playing senior WAFL football and representing — and captaining — his state in the national championships.

From Emma Quayle's Combine Harvester

Greg Clark (24/05/1997. 193cm, 82kg. Subiaco)

Medium midfielder

AFL biography: Captained WA at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Versatile player who has great running ability for a player of his size, regularly outworking his opponent during a game. Has good hands and uses the ball effectively Averaged 17.2 possessions and 4.3 marks in six games at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Member of NAB AFL Academy.

"Greg's a utility with elite size, shape, endurance and overhead marking ability. He could walk into preseason at an AFL club quite easily. He has some qualities that are hard to come by, and the potential to play a variety of roles. Off field I would say he's someone you would want to bring home to your mother. He's highly intelligent, and he shows genuine support and care for others. He probably just needs to keep working to improve his inside game and his decision making under pressure."

I was agreeing with your assessment. There certainly has been a considerable cooling of the opinions held about him by the most prominent draft watchers.

Comparison with Patrick Cripps are interesting, Cripps was a late developer who really bolted up the charts throughout 2013 whereas Clark was always considered an elite prospect right up until this year. Clubs have shown in the past that they are wary of high underage performers whose development appears to stagnate in their draft year - thinking of WA boys like Darling, Shaw, Kersten, Carter.

I reckon getting Clark at 32 would be a pretty satisfying outcome. The tools are all there to make an immediate impact in a similar vein to Luke Dunstan.

Yeah I know so it wasn't the best example of quoting by me. I was more making a general disclaimer that I wouldn't know where he will land but it seemed to be the collective PD wisdom he would be around our pick. A 193cm running machine on baller is a tantalising option.

I liked the way he identifies weaknesses in his game and works to improve. I think our recruiters would be impressed with his attitude as well as his running power.

Gets a tick from me and I haven't seen him play .
The physical and mental attributes are impressive.
We have enough smalls and talls, its the in-betweens we need to focus on, outside of the exceptional of course.
