If people are talking about making a trade move for Tomlinson theb Port could draft (a mate of mine) Nick Larkey. Yeah not top 30-40 material but he's a similar bloke. And he went to the same school as tomlinson, dyson, Gibson, Goldstein, the power brothers, and mcdonald

Larkey looks a bit of a goer - 198cm but his kicking is average at best. SSSSSSoooooooo skinny but attacks the ball really well. Def a rookie chance

For some reason, Andrew McGrath has popped up as my most wanted. Small utility type, but a big ball winner and a pure athlete with great skills.

Has played a lot of HBF so far which would obviously make most people instantly groan, but I think he's more of a player who can play anywhere. Someone who will become a midfielder who can rest back or forward. Every chance to be there at our first pick now it'll be 7 or 8.

Mcgrath is every bit a mid. Had something like 44 touches, 14 clearances and 19 tackles in a tac cup game this year. Ludicrous numbers. Hes certainly coming into the frame

Have you seen our midfield this year? We need mids every bit as we need talls
*presses repeat on rant saying we shouldn't be drafting anything but proper KPFs and centre square mids in the first two rounds*

Hope we can find a way to get a second pick in the first round this year. Would be over the moon to get both a KPF and an inside mid in the first round.

I just want someone who can use he ball, has class and composure. I dont know if he'll last at our pick but my guy this year is petrevski seaton. Bobbed up in some u/18 games last year when i was also having a close look at bonner. Projected togo top 5 however

For the next 3 seasons, all I want to draft is genuine midfielders and talls.

Only then, when we've got competent players in this area should we draft for specific needs like Impey again (I rate Impey however)
Some decent options for pure inside and inside/outside mids who might be around our first pick this year:
- Brad Scheer
- Jonty Scharenberg
- Will Setterfield (GWS zone, but wouldn't mind us putting in a bid)
- Kobe Mutch (also GWS zone)
- Andrew McGrath
- Willem Drew

A few others like Daniel Venables and Jarod Berry can also go into the midfield and have a big impact.

What is everyones thoughts on the draft this year? I understand that we need high quality key position players like Todd Marshall(FWD), Tim English(RUCK). But i am leaning towards the outside talent that should be available at our pick. Sure we could do with good key position players but I would much prefer another star with X factor. At pick 9-11 we should be in the range for a host of quality players such as Ainsworth, Petrevski-Seton, Vennables, Parfitt and I am much more confident in our clubs ability to develop these kinds of players

I'd be picking up either a KPF or centre square inside mid before going for more outside talent.

I can see Ainsworth becoming a Robbie Gray type player. While Todd Marshall may become a Jeremy Cameron at another club, I could see him becoming Mason Shaw Mk2 here and never build on his small frame

Ainsworth is talented, but I'd prefer we aim for players who are a bit taller this time around :p

Marshall isn't meant to be a gorilla KPF - more an athletic type. That said, he would still need to put on some weight. Leads well, and is a fantastic mark - marks the ball at the highest point. Your more solid KPF types in this draft are Josh Battle and Patrick Kerr, although they're in the 192-194cm range.

If we end up with more flankers or outside players with our first couple picks and in particular our first I'd be devastated.

We need prolific ball winners and preferably prolific, quick, inside ball winners. Then after that we can consider key positions, but the mids are first priority and outside players are dead last.

Im curious as to whether we will go inside mid with our top 10 pick or if we will go after Key Forward (i.e. Marshall or Battle). Marshall will surely be taken by us if he is still there at pick 8ish... but what are those in the knows thoughts on Battle - is he a bit small for a KF?

Also whom are we likely to target as inside mid. Think we focus on Scharenberg?

Not sure Battle is a top 10 talent, which may hold us back from reaching for him with a top 10 pick. It's hard to read exactly what we'll do without knowing delistings and trades. I reckon Ah Chee will go, possibly for a token trade. In that case I reckon we'd nab a replacement for him rather than a tall. But then if Butcher goes, our lack of developing KPF stocks - and the lack of success in the whole comp for KPFs taken after the first round - may entice us to take a KPF.

I really hope we are able to land another top 20 pick, and that we can use that to grab Battle while using the top 10 pick for a top end centre square mid.
