Jarrad Leinert looks an interesting player 196cm wingman/2nd ruck and according to the radio elite skills, does anyone think he's draftable and would his skills translate to AFL?
Pretty raw but I rate him highly. Hard to see him being a 2nd ruck in an AFL side though

Interesting combination. Usually second rucks are also forwards.

Is it that he doesn't have the ability to play forward due to poor marking/kicking? or does he have agility/speed to allow him to play wing?

He's come from the clouds a bit this year. Has an awkward kicking style but doesn't miss too many targets, kicked a ripper from deep in tbe pocket during the 3rd quarter yesterday that turned the game.

He's got a bit of the Blicavs about him, not quite as athletic but similar style.

I expect him to be drafted but very late or as a rookie. I'd love him to stay at Sturt as we always seem to struggle to get and keep good big players.

I don't really have my ear to the ground when it comes to the SANFL but weren't Sturt on death's door about 2 years ago?

what got them back on their feet? A little handout? Did the fans buy memberships? Or do they just bandwagon harder than Port fans?
As has been mentioned Sue Dewing was appointed as GM and the club underwent a massive restructure, started a debt demolition in the same model as Melbourne did a few years ago. They've cut their costs massively, outside of footy ops and coach there's only two full time employees. The club depends massively on loyal volunteers and supporters.
From what I know there hasn't been any bail outs or hand outs that aren't part of normal funding.
In 2012 the club had discussions with the footy commission hoping for some sort of rescue package or they'd have to fold, the commission said no and didn't want to listen.
Even without any AFL development money and Footy Park sale revenue the club will post another healthy profit, something many AFL clubs can't do.
It's been an outstanding turn around and to win a flag four years after almost folding is one of the sweetest premierships ever.

This was a better premiership and win than 2002, harder fought and sweeter. Gotta feel sorry for Eagles supporters losing two in a row, they're a great club with great structures, probably the best club in the comp since the AFL was created.
Winners are grinners though and yesterday was F***ING SENSATIONAL!!!!

2002 was a real drought breaker, and with what followed in the weeks after it was very surreal. This year after coming back from deaths loungeroom, it means a hell of alot.

Something is inherently wrong when your GF record is so poor.

1994,2000,2015,2016 were probably favourites and lost. 2015 unlucky to lose the first ruck division to injury in the 2nd Semi win.

2011 pulled one out of the hat as underdogs.

1993 and 2006 won as expected.

2001,2004,2005 would have gone in as underdogs.

There is always next year.

Well done to Sturt. Did it better for longer and deserve their premiership. Pretty close with South and Eagles during the whole year as the best team.

Another AFL.com.au fail:

It's over 24 hours since the SANFL grand final and there isn't a single mention of it on the AFL site.

That's right. The self appointed custodian of Australian rules football doesn't think that the most important match of the 2nd biggest league in the country should rate a mention yet there is an article about Mardi Harwood winning a netball grand final in division 16 of the Floggs Creek netball comp.

Shame on you AFL for once again proving to be nothing more than an insipid, vaucous PR machine that doesn't give a damn about anything that happens outside of Vic, NSW and QLD.

It's because there was no AFL reserves side playing. Nothing new.
The initial point of the AFL being the self appointed custodians of the sport is spot on though, they lack any real leadership and foresight of anything below the top tier. Classic back slapping boys club.

Spot on. Have a look at their 'Around the State Leagues' wraps during the season and it's only the AFL Reserve/aligned sides that get a mention.
