At what pick will we be safe in terms of not going into a points deficit?

e.g Doesn't matter now what pick Kelly is selected or Pick 25?

Magic number is Pick 28. Any bid for Will Kelly before pick 28, we will go into small deficit if we match. If not picked until pick 28 and after, we will have enough points.

When it came up on the board I thought it was a mistake but then quickly realized this is Carlton here. Hahaha

We gambled a bit on where bids would come and it looks like it has paid off - minimal damage in terms of a deficit if we have one at all (maximum deficit is 64 points).

Looking ahead to tomorrow it's almost a certainty that West Coast will take Ian Hill and Adelaide and Melbourne will take a good hard look at kids like Luke Valente and Curtis Taylor, so I reckon we'll be fine and get Kelly while keeping a 4th round pick, which is probably a bit more important in grabbing the rumoured late tall than you might think at first glance.

As an aside North will almost certainly have to trade back into the second round or early third round now to match a bid for Bailey Scott - Adelaide screwed them over big time with the early bid on Thomas.

The best thing about the Carlton trade is seeing them carry on like flogs, high-fiving one another after netting Stocker. If he turns out to be a Bokehurst (was that his name?), I hope it's replayed numerous times for lols

If next years draft is seen as being a weak one by Carlton and Adelaide fail to bounce back (Gibbs, Betts, Jenkins, Jacobs, Walker all aging so not an unreasonable proposition) then this trade may not end up being as bad as it appears on paper.
