I suppose my thinking is that irrespective of what we do this year, I still feel that we will be a bottom 6 team next year. That's why I'm suggesting we go into a heavy trading format next year. With a bevy of young kids (as you've mentioned above) we will have multiple trade options. 2022 is the year I expect us to then challenge for a top 8 spot and with Buddy's contract gone from the cap we can then become serious players in the free agency market.FWIW your preferred outcome is also my preferred outcome. It's highly unlikely anyone worth a pick 4 presents as a trade target, and I wouldn't be in favour of splitting pick 4 unless we were guaranteed to be trading in two quality players with those picks. So I too want us to take pick 4 to the draft and try to get an elite junior before a Campbell bid comes.
However I guess where we differ is that I am less resolute in that plan than you, in that if the right players to trade in entered the frame, I would be willing to abandon the go-to-the-draft thing all together. I really am convinced that between Heeney, Mills, Papley, Dawson, Hewett (if he stays), Florent, Hayward, McCartin, Blakey, Rowbottom, McInerney, Wicks, Stephens and, hopefully, Campbell, Gulden, Warner and Gould, there's enough of a nucleus of a good future team for us to start adding the right pieces to it.
Ummmm, Taylor 3 years & Gray 2 years....I suppose my thinking is that irrespective of what we do this year, I still feel that we will be a bottom 6 team next year. At the end of the day, we are looking at the same thing - just with different time frames.
However, no mater what we say, I have no doubt our list management team have a far better idea of what is required over the next few years and how to go about it than either you or I.

Hately, Caldwell, Perryman, how gettable any of them are for us in particular is questionable as I believe both Hately and Caldwell want to go to their home states, but I'd like us to at least have a discussion with them.
point 1.. We have a very rare opportunity to get a top 5 pick.. That is infinitely better than getting Brown.
If we are to trade that pick, Not Brown, please. You're correct If he kicks 60 we may win a premiership.. All the stars would need to align.. The first being he needs to kick 60, He Won't! If all the stars align, a top 5 pick may win us 3 premierships
Point 3.. I'd enjoy watching our more attacking game style finish with the ball in the hands of Buddy, Heeney, Papley and Daniher (who my gut is saying, is coming for free). Thats a pretty potent forward line, and a massive improvement on this year.
We don't want Brown! or at least I dont
Daniher costs a contract with so high a salary over so many years that not even Essendon will match. Nooooooo ...

He doesn't have to sign with them if they match. He can come to us through the preseason draft after refusing their offer I think. Always a chance Norf snap him up - but unlikely. But it's always been about him maxing his money in a precarious position (not playing).
I don't expect him to come, and I don't want him either. Risk is WAAAY too high unless it's max 2 year deal under league average with bonuses.
We placed a bid on Perryman if I remember that draft correctly? I'd be very very pro bringing him in. Right age profile and his "solid citizen" energy is absolutely off the charts.

Back injuries no bueno
I didn't vote for that prickAnd Victorians elected dictator Dan. Got what they deserved.
Given that Wicks seemingly rates behind Bell, I’m not too sure he’s part of the future team.
As I said in the other thread, I am hoping Wicks' omission is a sign that we've seen what we needed to see from him, while we're not as convinced by Bell. This is a guy who, since debuting last year, has been dropped three times, and never been convincing enough to last beyond three consecutive matches. Wicks on the other hand did enough for seven straight matches after debuting.
I'm not sure what the impending drafting of Campbell & Gulden will mean for them, but if it comes down to Wicks and Bell, it should be a no-brainer who the keeper is.
I also did some counts of our list the other day and came to the conclusion that Bell must be on our senior list as well fwiw.
Bell is on our Senior list this year.
I really hope your theory is correct - but I fear it’s not.As I said in the other thread, I am hoping Wicks' omission is a sign that we've seen what we needed to see from him, while we're not as convinced by Bell. Yes and at the end of the year, Wicks will be dudded again.I really hope your theory is correct - but I fear it’s not.
The Swans (to their credit) do tend to play the team they view as best XXII. There’s no tanking.
I suspect they see something in Bell that I sure as hell don’t.
Reckon Wicks has been dudded.
I’ve got a feeling that Bell may have been given a 2 year deal (his management certainly seemed to think so), so he might have one more to go. So it may not be as simple as that unfortunately.

He is useless
