The Swans are pleased to announce key forward Mason Cox has signed a 4-year deal, as has emerging forward Mason Wood.

Speaking on afl.com.au, Swans boss Tom Harley stated that “we are delighted to secure both Mason Cox and Mason Wood on long term deals. We’ve admired them both for quite some time. We were happy to part with pick 22 to secure Cox”.

And then I woke up, shaking and drenched in a cold sweat.

Melbourne offered Ben Brown 550k x 5

What a steal for a bloke who has kicked nearly 200 goals in 3 seasons.

Discounting pick 3, we have the following picks and their points value.

24 - 785
57 - 182
61 - 135
81 - 0

total - 1102

Being generous Campbell and Gulden cost us a minimum pick 12 (1268 points) and pick 30 (629 points) bringing the total to 1897 points and leaving us roughly 800 points short.
So we'll be live trading our 2021 second pick at least or are we banking getting rid of a few players for extra points?
It's no wonder we're not doing much in this trade period.

Apart from using discount in your first sentence, you forgot the discounts we receive for matching academy bids.

I must agree that it does feel a bit disappointing not getting any of our mentioned targets in previous years and possibly this. I think we seem alot tougher negotiators to what we were for a long time . I think one or two other posters suggested that maybe it is us that are pulling the pin on alot of these. Perhaps attitude..medical tests or financial demands. I like to think we have a very definite plan and if we miss out on a few along the way so be it. We are not desperately grabbing anyone. I think the more that all these players change clubs the more obvious it is it is all about the cash for alot of them. And we are just not paying up...not because we can't but as many have said it is a planned out strategy. I am trusting the direction.

Yes we lost that ability long before COLA was removed, its a development thing.

Ted Richards, Mitch Morton, McGlynn, Kennedy, Shaw, Mumford.
We got those people before GWS was really a team. We were then the only option in Sydney so players who wanted out of the spotlight or needed a restart came to us.
These days we are competing with a team that is more talented than us because of their unending 1st round draft picks so they are more attractive AT THE MOMENT to established players wanting a move.
But look at the players they are bringing in. Do we really want this players or is it just FOMO that is talking?

Not sure but I'd sell my body for Max King who I think had an ACL and went pick 7 or 8

He went pick 4 in 2018. It’s common knowledge and takes two seconds to check on the interweb. Two seconds dude...two seconds

Well you learn something every day..

So we'll get 20% off Campbell and roughly 30% off Gulden. At best we'll need at least pick 45 (347 points) to make up the difference.

Still, doesn't give us anything to trade with.

I think our 2021 2nd rounder is going to be used on draft night and that is why we aren't heavily involved in trade news, we want to hold onto that pick for live trading when under normal circumstances it would be a piece of trade capital. If we don't use it we'll lose it anyway via the deficit we incur to match on Gulden.

The only we keep it is if we can get some points for Ronke, Foot, etc. Maybe we can get some picks in the 50's for guys like them and maybe we can use a future 3rd instead of a future 2nd to cover the deicit.

Why tf aren't we asking Brisbane about Stefan Martin? Everyone I've posed the idea to says it is a good idea. Think we should have at least approached them.

I share the same opinion. My is based off him being the most "project player" type (similar to how I view 2m Peter). Not a great lead out forward, but a decent ruck for under age - but will get dominated by bigger bodies.
Couple of times I've seen Big Peter play my impression is that he isn't hard. Had the same issue with Cameron. Not putting their bodies on the line.
One of the reasons I'm a fan of McLean is that he does put his body on the line and tries to use what he has.
Do we know any current Swan who doesn't?
Big part of the Bloods ethos.

Might've already committed to re-signing or retiring. Plus he's 34 and had a really injury plagued season, I think he's done.

Seeing as though we are not allowed to criticise the club on here I’d like to go on record in saying what a fantastic season we had this year, to finish 3 rd bottom is a testament to the club and we should all be incredibly proud. Dedication and hard work saw us beat out two teams this year, a much lesser side may have finished 17th or 18th.

Also trading for hickey is an absolute master stroke, sure he hasn’t reached his potential at 3 Cubs, but I know the swans can and will challenge him to get the very most out of himself: signing him for 3 years is a tremendous move by the club, showing they have the utmost confidence in hickey, and are laying the foundations for him to finally claim his place amongst the competitions elite.
