You think he will be delisted?

I am not totally sold on Wicks just yet (just feel he will need to add more strings to his bow) but I would hope we’d give him more time.

The straight up duds we have persisted with over the years suggest you don't need a single string to your bow to be an AFL player.

I think so, every club have favourites who are kept on lists for various reasons but outsiders can't see why they are still there.

Lol ok, pretty keen to see who is on your list here? I am guessing Clarke (gut running), Reid (contested marking, this year aside) but they clearly (if you’re not blind by bias) at least have a single string.

Reid contested marking 😂

Clarke actually does have a string to his bow, which is his tagging ability. Still a dud, but was not who I was referring to.

He is useless

Maybe it will click - he plays like a player we need - someone that hovers on the edge waiting for the outlet or spill - and doesn't follow the ball like a seagull on a chip.
But it has never quite seemed to work out in terms of productive output.

Uh yeah? He is top 20 in the AFL this year and he has been shit.

I am not even defending him, I probably wouldn’t give him another contract beyond his current term based on his current output.

It’s has been his one main strength and you are so blind because of your bias dislike of him as a player that you can’t even acknowledge that.

Looking at what North has done, I fear clubs have been told to strip lists back to about 32-34.
That leaves any uncontracted player vulnerable. Times have changed folks.
Players like Knoll, Amartey, Wicks, Ronke, Thurlow, Clarke, Fox, Brand, Stoddart, Grey could all find themselves out.
Fox being extremely unlucky & perhaps the only one of that group with backup versatility value.

Because those stats clearly reflect that it is a very low bar Reid is passing where contested marking is concerned. Just because he goes OK comparative to the rest of the competition, does not make it a strength of his. He is weak as piss and sometimes flat out lazy in a contest so to even mention anything 'contested' as a strength of Reid's is effing laughable.

How can that possibly be enough players to provide cover?

Straight up duds... and useless?.....ok....someone who averages 4000 posts a year or approx 11 a day or Over 1 post per Hr every working day for 5 years.......and somehow You get to define useless?.....ok....good luck to you and all mighty typing strengths. ..fos..

Yeah I can and I did. Thanks.

Yeah CD set the bar lower for Reid.

Whatever man, I am done.

Joe the Cameraman on Bell: “can’t mark, can’t tackle”.

No chance Clarke, Fox, Brand (depending on injury status) are out IMO. Wicks and Thurlow would be hugely unlucky - I think they'll stay.
Grey has a contract - maybe they pay it out if they have a younger player they really want to keep like Ling.

Foot, Maibaum, Amartey, Reynolds, Rowles, Knoll (dependent on getting someone better), Stoddart, Bell, would be on the block IMO - but we need a reserve team don't we?

Ok average 20th over three years for contested marking. Say there are 720 players in afl. That means he is in top 3%. How can you possibly say that’s not a strength?

Maybe they run a US baseball like farm system - and if injury strikes they are allowed to pick up players from "the minors".
Makes sense I guess if they need to strip back costs. Might be a big step up from "the minors" VFL, WAFL, SANFL though in terms of fitness.

I’m very confused as to logistics of all this. If there was a technical breach of contract impacting TV revenue then renegotiated then the answer would to provide more games per year on preexisting revenue base rather than have cut backs industry wide revenue when player contracts are already in place. Take the number of games to 34 (ie twice each team) and keep revenue same (subject of negotiation ) so too list sizes. simply don’t understand.

Unfortunately for both Bell and Wicks, if we had a decent list then neither of them would be in the discussion. Swans have gone back to the 90s. Very retro.

I really hope your theory is correct - but I fear it’s not.

The Swans (to their credit) do tend to play the team they view as best XXII. There’s no tanking.

I suspect they see something in Bell that I sure as hell don’t.

Reckon Wicks has been dudded.
I feel #caesar88's comment has merit. They have had a good look at Wicks and are happy with what they've seen therefore don't need another week. The fact that Bell is contracted to 2021 complicates things though.

I'd like to see Wicks get an extension. At our best we had a bunch of players in the reserves who could step up and play a role to AFL standard when called upon, but haven't had this luxury for a while now. Wicks seems like he could at the very least be one of those guys, which is more than I can say for a lot of the 2nds team.

I would be very surprised if they will be cut back that far. I'd be more inclined to think it will be more likely around 40 including rookies. That's a reduction of around 5 from the current list capacity.
It is amazing to think that the AFL made a statement that list sizes would be reduced around 5 months ago yet they have still not made it public as to what the size will be. How bloody long does it take the AFL to decide on anything?
