Will we use our first pick on McIness?

I hope not but it depends on what we do in trade week and where the bid comes.

The thought is that he’s sliding a little bit. Our 1st is currently 14 but likely to be pushed back a little by compo and academy picks etc.

That 14, if pushed back, might be borderline and we might have to use it to match a bid.

The thought is that we might try and use our future first to try and get inside the top 10 this year. That would then give us a chance at getting another 1st rounder in this year and not such a big deal if we have to use our 2nd pick on Reef.

Trading out of the first next year will save us having that eaten up by an early Daicos bid.

Will we use our first pick on McIness?
They hope not. They'll hope a bid comes for him after our pick. At this point, our 1st rounder could be pushed out til pick 18-19, so either we move up the board or hope a bid doesn't come til the 2nd round. Mid 20's would be okay. We can use later picks to match.

Six players who registered top 10 times are also already aligned to AFL clubs, headlined by Western Bulldogs Next Generation Academy (NGA) member and consensus number one prospect, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. Another NGA product, Reef McInnes (Collingwood) took full toll with a tailwind to notch a nation-wide fastest time of 2.78 seconds, remarkable considering his 193cm/86kg frame and the fact he is an inside midfielder. Standout Swans Academy member Braeden Campbell equalled Ugle-Hagan’s effort as both managed the equal-10th best time.

There also looms some real bolters in the pack, with the likes of Liam Kolar, Max Holmes, and Fraser Rosman all notching elite times of 2.90 seconds or better. Kolar and Rosman are athletic tall forwards who are quite raw but can compete aerially, while wingman Holmes is a national hurdles champion and the son of Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Lee Naylor. Essendon NGA hopeful Joshua Eyre was another surprise packet, dominating across the board and ranking eighth in this particular test.

Godfrey Okerenyang, Isiah Winder, and Aiden Fyfe joined Campbell as the only non-Victorians to earn top 10 status, with West Australian Winder also the smallest player among them at 180cm. He is fresh off a season which saw him earn a senior berth at Peel Thunder, proving a classy user through midfield. Keen watchers may remember Okerenyang from the 2018 AFL Grand Final sprint, which he took out, while Fyfe is a wingman out of Gold Coast’s Academy.

Incredibly, none of the top 10 runners featured on the same list during preseason, though Campbell was among the best NSW/ACT sprinters at that time.

Top 10 times:
1. Reef McInnes (Oakleigh/Vic Metro) – 2.78 seconds
2. Max Holmes (Sandringham/Vic Metro) – 2.80
3. Godfrey Okerenyang (GWS Academy/Allies) – 2.86
4. Liam Kolar (Northern/Vic Metro) – 2.87
5. Isiah Winder (Peel Thunder/Western Australia) – 2.873
=6. Zavier Maher (Murray/Vic Country) – 2.89
=6. Seamus Mitchell (Bendigo/Vic Country) – 2.88
8. Joshua Eyre (Calder/Vic Metro) – 2.89
9. Aiden Fyfe (Gold Coast Academy/Allies) – 2.898
=10. Braeden Campbell (Sydney Academy/Allies) – 2.90
=10. Fraser Rosman (Sandringham/Vic Metro) – 2.90
=10. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (Oakleigh/Vic Country) – 2.90

Exciting prospect Ollie Lord looms as the third grandson from Geelong’s 1963 premiership team to be drafted.

His grandfather Alistair won the 1962 Brownlow Medal in a 122-game career and played in the Cats’ flag the following season.

He’s grown a bit,” Alistair remarked, as he took a seat at Geelong Grammar, where Ollie is completing his Year 12 studies.

“It’s been about seven months and I think I’ve grown about 2cm and put on three to four kilos,” Ollie replied.

Ollie’s now about 197cm. He would have towered over Polly Farmer in Alistair’s day.

There was a lot to like, including his high marking, Alistair said.

“He leads quick, he positions his body well, his kicking — I always told him you’ve got to be able to kick both left and right and handball each side of his body,” he said.

“It’s like all young fellows, he could get the opportunity and he could not.”

Former Sandringham Dragons mentor Josh Bourke recently caught up for a kick with Ollie and said “he’s really becoming quite imposing”.

For all you Will Phillips fan out there, Call Twomey on SEN this morning speaking to Gary and Tim gave them his top 5 in the draft and Phillips was there as the only Mid.

If we can get a top 10 pick for Treloar, and a top 15 pick for next year's first rounder, plus keep our existing first rounder, and take all 3 picks before a nomination for Reef, it could be quite a draft haul to help regenerate the list. We might be able to use any picks gained for Phillips or Cox to upgrade these 3 picks inside a Reef bid.

Have been thinking likewise, maybe fanciful thinking but who knows.

Two first rounders (conservatively), plus Reef, plus Nick Daicos. Could regenerate very quickly

Zach Reid from Gippsland Power would be in that range, could be our long term key defender, would be raw to start with though

Need to trade up to get a look at Will Phillips, ideally!

We probably needed the Suns Pick 5 to have a Shot at Phillips thought he could been done by then anyway
