Game Day 2021 AFL Draft

Campbell on the inside? The only inside he is seeing in the inside of a library if Chad and Sheldrick are around.

There you go then. That's my point. Maybe this draft is a reflection that Horse actually doesn't want guys like Campbell and Gulden and Florent spending much time on the inside at all. If that is the case, then the draft hand makes more sense (the trading of Hewett not so much), and I don't disagree with the logic, as I think those boys have attributes like class and outside run better suited to other roles, like the wing and flanks.

Maybe Horse wants an inside engine room of engine room specialists only: Mills, Rowbottom, Warner, Sheldrick and Roberts may be able to work, with the rest only getting the odd rotation here and there for X-factor. We'd then have the luxury of using the other more skilful players in roles that will better capitalise on their skills.

Kapers per your response ^^

Charlie Dean worth a rookie spot, although I imagine that we have filled up on picks.

We only get 2 rookies, and that's almost certainly Taylor and Anderson.

I'm a little surprised with all the talk about how we now have too many mids and they can't all play next year.
Well, obviously, they won't all play next year.
The reality is that very few draftees, other than the top few, play regularly the following year unless they have been drafted to a basket case of a club or there are numerous injuries.
Many draftees need to serve a longer apprenticeship in the seconds than others and it may well be that we won't see the benefit of this year's draft till 2023-4.
Just because they have been recruited as mids doesn't mean that that is where they will play with us. Both Heeney and Mills were drafted as gun mids and where did they start playing with us? Certainly not in the midfield.
I'm happy that we didn't draft a KPD who was a middle placed draftee meaning that he would be a greater chance of failure rather than success. The recruiting guys are well aware that there is a far greater chance of drafting a successful KPD next year rather than going for a hail Mary this year.
I simply will never except the notion you can have to many mids.

Parker
Mills
Heeney
Rowbottom
Florent
Warner
Gulden
Campbell
Sheldrick
Roberts
Warner

They will be our mids after next year assuming JPK goes. Can't play all of them.
Also assuming Taylor and Clarke and probably Bell are no longer with us.
Assuming Stephens is still here?
JMac is playing HBF?
Need 7 or 8 in seniors.
Ideally 7 in VFL (4 or 5 plus VFL listed players). Plus say three additional VFL listed not chosen.
Your list plus Stephens = 12 sounds about right.

really.. why wouldn't you let him go?

EDIT.. oh, sorry, just realised your last 723 posts have been about how much you over rate Hewett, and as a midfield expert, how terrible the Swans list mgt is!
EDIT pt II.. getting really boring

How much I RATE Hewett.

You do not have the right to state whether I over-rate him or not as fact.

I think the thing that has to be remembered is that the club have to take into account - salary cap, academy picks available in next year's, draft quality in future years and potential trades when making draft choices.

Do we need Anderson anymore? Looks a good player, but....gee having more than one spare KPD would be handy too.

Depends whether they are counting Reid as one there

You clearly rate Hewett very highly. You clearly rate Hewett higher than the Swans Coaching and list mgt straff.. you also clearly rate him higher than most if not all on this board.
To rate someone highly is fine.. To rate someone higher than everyone else does (including the experts, ie.. Swans list mgt and coaching staff), confirms to me that you Over Rate him.

like my 2nd edit.. getting pretty boring, so Ill leave it there

Speaking with Zero Hanger, Rankin said his family would prefer him to stay in his home state but are supportive of the possibility of him leaving if drafted.

"I think everyone here wants me to stay in Victoria," Rankin admitted.

"At the end of the day, they know it's my dream to play AFL and whether that's interstate, they don't really care. They'll support me wherever I go.

I can rate him however I want to.

Who?

No, he just won't be around in a couple of years, struggles to get on the park, and no evidence behind him being a KPD to keep us from drafting one.
Yeah, last year I'd say. Was going to say he's only emergency cover until we get....but then i saw this....NOOOOOOOO !

Having taken Rankine do we have a spot for Anderson?

Not on the main list, but as we pre-listed him as an academy selection he can automatically move under the Cat B rookie selection with our last pick which we will do so.

From what I can see it will be Taylor back on and Anderson with Paddy to come via the SPPS later.
