The "optimal" thing to do when you don't have a top QB is to let them leave after their rookie QB contract ends as you suggest but it doesn't happen because its more risky than doing the conventional (only moving on from QBs who are clearly not good enough) and would put the decision-makers on the hot seat if the new QB doesn't work out.When we have just a handful of top QB's why are we still overpaying for the next tier. why not treat them like RB's and only pay the best of the best and if they are not showing it let them go or pay them less than they want on the 2nd contract.
