It's money. Plain and simple. Look at our play. We're an up and coming side that looks bloody good.

We're attractive and primed for a tilt.

We're doing this on a shoestring budget with shrewd picks and a great support staff.

It'll come back in spades. I'm 1000% confident that 2024 is the year
Jonah Hill from moneyball would walk out on the spot if he worked for the hawks and we paid Ben McKay that sort of money!!

Before people jump to unfair conclusions regarding Hawthorns “loss” to Essendon in the Ben McKay pursuit, consider this: No one here knows the exact terms that were offered to him by each team.

Maybe Essendon offered more $ or more years. Maybe even despite that, he had still preferred Hawthorn, but Hawthorn had sensible stipulations in the contract regarding performance and games played.

Maybe Essendons management were reckless in what they offered a player with arguably only one decent year of footy to show. Maybe he just wanted to play for his former coach Brad Scott.

It’s ok to be disappointed but it shows poor character to spit the dummy when you don’t know the full story.

All about the money ball

"HE.GETS.ON.BASE"

We need our Jason Giambi

Being pedantic, the A's had to replace the output of Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi with cheaper players. Torturing the analogy somewhat, Ben McKay was our Jason Giambi, because in the end he followed the money and ended up at Essendon. We need our Old Man Justice and Scott Hatteberg to walk through the doors (Jeremy Giambi was not a good signing by the A's).

And we will replace McKay with cheaper players. I have faith we'll strike gold
