The Swans would have expected a bid on King by now and we would have gone into deficit for next year if we'd taken Carmichael.

Maybe. Once we passed on Carmichael we pretty much broadcast we’d match a King bid. The idea of making a club pay fair value dissipates somewhat once you’re into the second/third round so maybe clubs lose interest in bidding.
