List Mgmt. 2026 Draft and Trade Thread

I genuinely look at this squad we have at the moment and struggle to see exactly what we need/lack. (In terms of draftees, as you could obviously go and grab a KPD like Weitering to fill the Melican/Hamling role etc)

In the past it has been KPFs or KPDs, small forwards etc.

I think you could make a case for a 188cm+ mid but aside from that I don't really see much
A mature Oliver/Petracca/Cripps type extractor in the midfield. (I miss Kennedy)

A proper Fullback type like Weitering allowing McCartin to play a higher intercept role.

A decent second ruck / 3rd forward

All seem like things we lack IMO

Another Josh Kennedy, that's all.

If Bowman's future is in defence, a medium sized leading forward would not be bad. If we have concerns on Will Green.... maybe.

This is the most balanced squad we've had in years, if not a decade. It's hard to see a gap that we need filled, it's also hard to find 3 players we would want off our list to make way for draftees.

Oliver is quietly racking up very impressive numbers for a contested mid cant really criticize our off-season but i felt he could of easily been attainable if we didnt go all in on Curnow.

The ever illusive Rampe replacement :P

Well we just play Grundy for 80-90% tog dont need another ruck :P

I don’t think we need him and he’d stretch our salary cap way too thinly.

He’s perfect for North or the Bulldogs to target IMO. Clubs that desperately need a top shelf key defender and would probably be ready to contend for finals moving forward. Bulldogs seem all in for Butters so I’d suggest North should be preparing to make a big play. I could see clubs like Adelaide and Melbourne also being interested but I think both need to prioritise their midfields more than a key defender.
Right on the money. Dogs desperate need, North similar, maybe not quite as bad. WC as well but convincing him to go west young man might be a bridge too far to mix metaphors. Port? Maybe.

The price of any of these would be prohibitive if they are good enough to be an improvement.

Thats why I said in terms of draftees. You aren't really going to get that straight away

- Extractor would be Sheldrick if he had a tank/Rowbottom wasn't also in the midfield

- Fullback that would be Edwards but he is in game 3

- Second ruck we gotta hope that Hetherton pushes onto that or Green can develop some forward craft along side his rucking

Yes we technically lack them but don't see a draftee coming in and changing it

Who knows what happens with Cripps?!

A new coach might come into Carlton and just decide they need to move him on. We should have an open mind to that opportunity if it comes along.
You can have the open mind. I'll stick with no thank you at any price.

I went and watched the Claremont colts last weekend (as I often do). Mellody, Van Rooyen and Gale weren't playing (state 18's duty).

I noticed a young, slightly built bloodnut getting a lot of the pill. It was Noah Braun, son of former Eagle Michael.

Checked the game stats this morning. My god.

Not sure we are gonna get a plug and play of the above

32yo Cripps is the same player as 25yo Cripps.

If he does move, his age means it might be at a price we can afford.

Not with his remaining contract

He has a great trick but will not fit in with the sides style at the minute and get burnt on transition, effectively putting us one down post clearance. If found a two way running clearance mid I would pay up.

I'm not convinced that Carlton's culture problems aren't in part due to Cripps

He's this great player but can't get himself and his boys to play for each other for more than an hour before they think of themselves and their own stats

He's always gassed

Not serious people

Not OOC til 2027

Salary would be a fair bit.

Edit: my bad. Meant no trade assets. Happy to sit with list at the minute
His salary would be huge, but Carlton might just want to move him on and be willing to pay some of it.

I don't think Cripps will be playing for us next year. But I think he is definitely open to a move and we should keep an open mind, especially if we get wiped out in a final again by teams that are just bigger and stronger at the contest.

I also think we need to keep in mind Heeney's longevity and how having a big midfielder come in would help him extend his career.

Cripps is shot physically could see him being the new Taylor Adams just breaking down with injuries all the time. He's 32 and been a human battering ram for his career.
Understand the thinking behind it but I don't thinks he's the right fit even if available.

A proven extractor would compliment our midfield mix given we are top heavy with running types as opposed to contested beasts. I wouldn't be averse to a trade involving Chad for Caleb Serong and reunite the brothers. Would Freo take Chad and Corey for Caleb?

Nope. No way. Chat will get paid more but Freo will see they have leverage and think Caleb worth more in trade.

He also just signed a long deal and is next captain
