List Mgmt. 2026 Draft and Trade Thread

I don’t think I would have. His height is a major obstacle to him having an AFL career, certainly as a midfielder. He’s quick ish but not sure he has the express pace or power that you need at that height.

He’s apparently 174cm. Errol is 175cm & doesn’t rely on pace or power.

But Mellis isn’t Errol (who else is?!) and I do agree that height has curtailed him.

Never been a hindrance at every level even winning Eastern Ranges best as an underage player , 3 senior comp best and fairest in the best local league in Victoria

Basically are you saying we'll be making a spot on the list and you know who that player is who will be going on the long term injury list and that you have good sources that say Mellis will be our target once he lists which will be tomorrow or rather today because its passed midnight.
Why are we even speculating. All settled

Warner held the club over a barrel during negotiations and it appears amartey is doing the same .

Makes you appreciate guys like lizard and jmac who quietly put pen to paper on long term deals no doubt leaving money on the table

We don’t actually know what is going on with negotiations to be able to say that definitively.

Of course not , but reading between the lines. Someone leaked to morris that they think his worth is 1.2 million per year , after a 2 year deal was knocked back and the improved 4 and 5 year deal being tabled now.

He has every right to get the best deal for him as any other player does , just pointing out that other ( better ) players have left money on the table to sign long term deals.

Lizard was no where near the player he is now when he signed his 8 year deal, which will be well below value

Jmac signed for 5 years and now has elevated himself into AA discussions , again which will be lower than market value

Hardly, it's the way negotiations go mate, and a million for a key forward is the market rate that's just flat reality. He'll probably get north of 1.2 at the Pies

Morris specifically said in that clip he (Morris) went and asked other clubs what Joel would be worth AFTER Ben King re-signs at Gold Coast. It was the other clubs' opinions on value he was conveying.

King listed as being three months away from returning. Last VFL home and away game is less than three months away. Around 10th August. If the Swans have anyone they are keen on in the mid season draft, looks like he might be the one to go on the long term injury list.

I wonder if McLean is the reason we will play hardball with Amartey.

We still desperately need a good emerging Key Forward, mCDonald just isn’t that player.

Maybe they keep McLean as closest player to goal and probably the next best backup ruck and play Charlie in Amartey role higher up the ground.

Don’t love it. But don’t love $1.2m for a 6,5/10 key forward….

Why even cloud his mind with a ridiculous 2yr offer i sometimes wonder wtf is the club thinking with some decisions.

Who knows maybe if we had just tabled our 2nd offer right away and made him feel wanted it would be different??

With the new game style and rules Amartey is worth way more than McLean. I doubt we play McLean and Charlie together it’s a bit too “samey”

Agree to disagree.

McLean is a plodder and defensive liability due to lack of agility, but Amartey isn’t a great mark (Charlie) or a great kick (Liz) or have great hands in tight (McDonald). He has less weaknesses than McLean who has a lot of flaws but he is not above average.

Agility is critical in today’s game. You can’t play two relatively non agile ones in Charlie and McLean. The ball will come out so easily. A million when Logan isn’t much less is fair

If Mellis put in for msd we will take him , if no one has said they will he won't
Can you.clarify. Do you mean if someone other than us has told him they will take him he wont and we already know you said we will take him so he'll nominate only if he knows no one else is interested.

Mellis has been good in our VFL side but I wouldn’t have thought good enough to be in MSD contention. And especially not for us. He’d be a fair way from getting a senior game, behind Cleary and Corey, maybe Dattoli, and with Errol to return.

The only point of us participating in the MSD seems to me to be to get someone capable of playing first ruck, with Green’s injury leaving us pretty thin.

Lockwood from the Tigers... if anyone, would be my guess. But maybe we bring back Caleb May?

The salary gap, according to Google AI for 2026 is 18.4 million with the average player salary being about 500k. First year draftees earn a minimum of 100k with rookies as low as 75k.

Given the demand for key forwards, it's most probably not unreasonable for Amartey to command 1mil + a year. However I suspect this does not fit with our list and salary cap management.

we canonly speculate, but I would imagine Lizard and JMac would be back ended, especially Lizard. Amarty could end up similar if the club is trying keep everyone including Chad going forward.
