Does that make five players on non-Swans AFL lists now that were involved with the Swans academy?

Anderson, Cochran, Puncher, May, Carmichael?

Good to see them a go elsewhere, if not at the Swans.
Jack Buckley also went through the Swans Academy. I think he had a year off when about 18yo, then came back and the Giants picked him up
Theres plenty of them

What's happening with McCarthy and the Twins? How are they going in the academy?

Assuming you mean Aiden McCartney?

His done his hip, so out for the season. Has publically declared which club his going to but JackHiscoxWasFast is confident his chosen the Swans.

Twins are developing nicely, likely 2nd to late selections currently.

I know McCartney was touted as good talent albeit a bit inconsistent.

Will be impossible to gauge his draft range with zero exposure in 2026.

IF he nominates the Swans and goes around second pick, we once again could have HUGE upside.

Bonz - can you recall a player who is academy and father son who hasn’t chosen academy? I think mini hodge will chose lions, Blakey….. any others?

I think Guy Jenkin goes latish in the national draft alongside McCarthy (whether that be to Sydney or North), then we will have another Swans Academy player as a cat b

I don't see us having an open Cat B spot next year with both Chamberlain and Hetherton likely to go around again next year on the Cat B list.

Yes probably very true, I’m guessing we are able to get the Swans boys as Cat A rookies but they would just be open to being selected by others in the rookie draft i.e we aren’t afforded the protection we get lodging them as cat b rookies?

What does this mean for Mellis? I expected someone to pick him up. Are we likely to grab him at the end of the year?

Not sure why you expected him to go, there was a better one in the Richmond VF side that didn't get picked up as well. He'll be a chance for a late pick in this year's draft if he keeps it up, but probably needs to show consistent midfield ability

He was convinced by someone to put his hand up , 1 of us , North or Melbourne
Let's see how he goes

If you mean Toner , not any better at this stage

Kalani White is the most recent one off top of my head (selected Melbourne not Gold Coast).

Yep him and he showed mid ability last game was just too late (only one game). Needed to play mid/wing for a few games.

We should have targeted him last year
We had a meeting with him according to posters ITK. He wanted more money and more years than what he was already on. I'm time he may prove worth it, but I don't think we could afford it even if we weren't all chips in on Curnow.

The irony is that he's of greater need to us than he is to the Suns.

Their issue last year - and it's carried over into this year - is that their midfield is full of guys who can get 30 touches but no one who can do defensive roles or provide any sort of balance in the guts.

They arguably overspent on a player who, great as he is, just further exacerbates their problems rather than addressing them. And the frustrating part is that he's exactly the kind of player we need - basically another Heeney in our midfield.

As LP1 pointed out, we had a choice to make - and we chose Curnow.

Was it the right choice?

We’ll know in a few years.

Yep who knows but comfortable with the call. It’s not so much Curnow but think how effective Amartey has been as the second tall

I actually don't know that there was a choice. I'm sure we were interested in Petracca, like all clubs would be, but that doesn't mean we actually seriously pursued it like we did Curnow.

Yes. True enough.

In any event, Petracca is 30. Who knows when the slide / injuries will happen.
