He's not getting 1.1-1.3m

St Kilda is a precautionary tale for all of the comp to see. They're going nowhere and about to lose Darcy Wilson because they overpaid on wages for average last trade period

He’d get that at the Pies or Mel or something like that. Pies especially are desperate for a forward

If Amartey goes for that money to the Pies or Melbourne, you take the first rounder and keep McLean.

I'm happy for Joel to stay but overpaying him is silly when our next best option is very serviceable.

700k for 5 years is fine to me. If he wants more and gets it somewhere else, good on him and best of luck.

I’d be shocked if we get him for only 700, a mill is probably overs but somewhere between those two, 850ish would be just a vague guess

Would much rather pay “overs” as you put it than think McLean is the answer in a contending side. A million a year is not overs anyway the cap has significantly increased. Amartey is having a very good year.
You keep saying the salary cap is significantly increasing. It isn't.

It is going up 700k next year. So about 20k per player.

The next collective bargaining agreement hasn't been done for 2028 onwards.

Good teams don't pay their role players a million a season. It is a ridiculous over pay for Amartey and I am confident that the club wouldn't even be considering a contract that large.

We will see he’s going to have offers in that range I mean the Pies will and that is just one team desperate for a key forward. It’s probably between the two extremes, 700 seems very short of what he can earn and would sign for and a mill being the high end a figure in between the two is fairly fair

They can have Campbell for Wilson

I am sure there are desperate clubs out there with one key forward or none who will be willing to make a huge offer to Amartey, but we aren't in that situation so we don't have to.

We do, however, have a lot of good players out of contract next year just as Tasmania are arriving and retaining cap flexibility is critical.

It has been on my mind why we have so many out of contract players in the year that Tassie comes in.
Is it by accident?
Are we shopping our players?
Is this a Swans strategy?
It is in the back of my mind as to why.

Or. Hear me out. Amartey goes, get high compo pick and if McLean has a decent enough year, sell him high with a year left on his contract and use the draft capital to get the inside midfield bull superstar we need to complete our midfield.

McDonald and Curnow run the forward line with Snell making the move to the forward line to use his reading of the ball and Marking prowess in a new role.

Downvotes welcome.

Anyone who wants to keep Amartey needs to pick the player they are happy to lose next year

Campbell and/or Chad. The latter one obviously match the terms and force a trade

I like Campbell and rate him higher than you Bedford.

But I'd do that trade for sure.
That's fair , i watched him live for Sandy last year in the VFL and he was so far better than Florent on the day and i'll tell you this , there are saints players sick of playing negative shit

I’d be asking the question on Phillipou rate him so highly still

A lot of them are young players who probably weren't worthy of longer contracts or are still on their first contract.

I think Grundy carried over his existing contract.

Ladhams resigned for 2 years because he probably couldn't get a significantly better deal elsewhere. Or a two year deal was part of the negotiation to convince him to stay rather than trying his luck as a backup elsewhere.

Roberts and Sheldrick, the club, and maybe they player, weren't sure if they wanted to commit long term when they resigned.

McLean and McCartin would have both extended before Tasmania was confirmed as coming in.

Chad Warner's contract is well known.

Long story short, I don't think it is a strategy to have so many players uncontracted going into next year. It has just played out that way.

But it is a bit of a problem.

I'd go to $750. After that, take the first rounder and put some faith in Hetherton and King. McLean is a decent ruck chop out and could anchor the forward line in the meantime.

Centre ruck work is not Dos's strength the way it is now

There's probably a middle ground between the two, and it likely ends on him signing, whether that middle ground is the extra year of security or whether it's the year amount who knows. A mill for a good KPF is going to be basically market value these days

Armatey played 61 games in 8 seasons (prior to this year).

The low games tally is largely due to injuries. Hammies and the like.

In my view, a 5 year contract is a big risk for a player who has a history of soft tissue injury. Especially since it’ll take him into his 30’s.

A 5 year contract on silly money would be irresponsible list management.
