Lewis Melican is a young key defender with enormous promise. My issue with Melican is that he is a bit too slow off the mark and struggles to keep up with quicker key forwards on a lead.

Other than that I reckon he is OK. And yeah, he just might be back in the side.

Spot on. In a contest, he goes ok. Problem is he spends 90% of the game not in cooee of his opponent.

There is zero chance Melican has suddenly learnt the skills he lacked i.e. positional play and how to stay with his opponent.

He's fine in a contest and his disposal is serviceable but he gets left in the dust time and time again. The step up in forward craft from the VFL to top grade is brutal.

I wish him the best and it's always good to see someone get another chance, but it's unlikely to go the way we might hope.

I hope everyone gets a chance to shove this post back down my throat.

We have lost the last 4, lost to Cats by 90 odd points, lost 6 to 8 key players for long periods & challenging for bottom 3 in the comp.

I say beggars can't be choosers.

I would choose Edwards in a heartbeat ahead of Lewis.

If anything I thought ashep was kinder and more generous than he normally is.

He likely has to play, I'm just saying that expectations should be tempered. I unfortunately don't see a potential "redemption" happening.

I hope I'm wrong.

Picking Edwards would be like sticking a baby giraffe in among a pride of lions and expecting said giraffe to keep them off a pork chop.

True…however he would be an upgrade on Melican even now as green as he Is.
