I'd take a bad win over an honourable loss.
Theres a lot on here that have been missing the losing, so much, theyre exploding with paroxySmal grief reactions to an actual small victory!
get a grip.
My own "meaningless stat" contribution...
Freo is one of only three teams to have won their last four matches!

What a trash second half of this post. Xerri is the standout best ruck in the league and LDU is an inside bull. You don't win internet brownie points for being edgy. All you see is the record and you're completely blind to the actual quality of the performance put up.
I think it’s your post that is trash mate. Claiming Xerri the standout best ruck in the league for one - Ever hear of a guy called Max Gawn?
He’s a decent player Xerri, but plenty of AFL fans would have Darcy Cameron and TDK over him too at the moment.

As for the north record this year - it’s round 14 now! It’s not round 3 or 4 where you can say a teams position is misleading on the ladder.
They have lost 9 games and won 3 (two of which they fell over the line v Richmond and WCE).
There is nothing misleading about their position (or anyone else’s either after 13 games) - they’ll finish bottom 3 again almost certainly.

Anyway we got away with a crap performance without harming our finals chances so it’s a good outcome over all. Credit to Simon Garlick and co most of all for last nights win because if that game was over at marvel we would be 7-6 this morning instead of 8-5.

Xerri has the third highest player rating in the league the last ten games and the number one player in the last five, but whatever..

Re: Fyfe as sub. If you compare him to the north sub who do you think was more impactful? Not saying the kid is a better player or anything but a sub who is handball first vs a run and carry sub is the bigger question. The North kid carved us up and delivered well inside 50

.

The team has enough players that can run and carry, another one wouldn't have been the difference. I love Serong but something he can learn from Fyfe is making smarter decisions with the ball instead of throwing it on the boot, 100% disposal efficiency vs 58%. We were clearly beaten in the midfield and I doubt we would have turned it around in the last 10 mins without Fyfe's cool head and experience in winning those kinds of games.

Really? Gawn is the number 1 ruck for sure, but Xerri would be a clear second best at the moment.

This same North Melbourne team drew with Brisbane, pushed Collingwood for 3/4, got dominated by an inaccurate Eagles yet still managed to run over the top of them in the last quarter in the month before this game.

Teams performances fluctuate heavily throughout a season. We beat Brisbane at home in round 1 last season - sounds great except they were poor to start off that year. North Melbourne aren't world beaters but they are probably a middle range team not a bottom 4 team on current form.

Regardless of that if we kicked straight we probably win this game by 5 goals. Far better in this position than what a lot of other teams have recently been in losing games because of poor goal kicking.

I've got to love this post just for the use of the term 'paroxymal'. In particular, "Paroxymal grief reactions".

Not to be a pedantic flubber-bore, but I think you missed out an 's', I swear I had to look it up! Imagine my excitement :straining::p:roflv1:

Please, somebody change the damn thread title already to this. Imagine outsiders looking in on the Freo forum to see this!!! Just.....wonderful :laughv1:

Almost gave me groin palpitations :tearsofjoy:

Yep let's just ignore everything except your expert opinion. Good chat rofl.

The Darcy hate has been unfair to him, he has had no pre season and been injured frequently. Judge him after he gets match fit and a decent run at it. Switta was copping the same abuse but he built into it after a run of games and has been really good recently.
I think it's important to bag these guys out while they're building fitness, we mightn't get a chance once they are back to their best.

You can be happy with the win while also admitting we were pretty shithouse against a poorer side. North bought the pressure all night and clearly studied the St Kilda game but their skill level was pretty deplorable, for every turnover and unforced error we made last night (and we made many), North made just as many if not more. There’s a reason they’ve only won 18 games in the past 6 seasons. I guess we are lucky we put up that performance against a bottom 4 team because even a marginally better team ala Essendon or St Kilda (who are our next two opponents) would have made us pay. Yeah yeah Xerri and Sheezel are good but every team has a few guns nowadays and I would have backed ours to get it done in a more convincing fashion.

That said I’d rather play shit and win than play good and lose, we get the 4 points and we keep moving and look to be better next week.

I thought our talls were good at both ends, Brayshaw is elite with his defensive work, and I’ve been critical of Ryan and Switkowski this season but both of them were good last night.

One thing I don’t like is we have a potential future Coleman Medallist in Treacy and JL is playing him as high up the ground as possible, whilst Amiss is playing the deep full forward role and clearly struggling. Doesn’t make much sense to me. Great mark in the last 30 seconds though!

I can't wait to see a P Voss celebration of a Shai Bolton goal in a final

One criticism / concern I really find silly is of the key forwards. The only concern I have is Amiss fixing his kicking.

Treacys kicking will come back. Hes still working his arse off and monstoring blokes, literally the only thing thats off is accurate goal kicking which was previously at levels that just wasnt sustainable

Jye is still leading repeatedly and I think his 1 on 1 contest work is improving even though it clearly needs work. Hes still going to kick 30+ goals a year in his sleep.

Voss is benefiting from the amount of attention on the other two which is the benefit of having 3 40 goal a year forwards rather than 1 that kicks 60. Last night was wet and the mids were beaten in contest/ clearance, they still had 8 shots between them, thats a win.

None of them are going to be Sam Darcy or Cameron but they are all going to be very very good for another 10 years. We are getting a bit spoilt

I called the Treacy miss in the last quarter before he even started his approach. I sit behind those goals just beyond the point post and he was aiming straight at me. He then missed to that side with the ball landing close to me. It is such a simple thing that I have no idea why he couldn't have seen it himself before beginning his approach.

3 x 40 goals per year forwards > 1 x 60 goals per year forward.

Yep. Snuff’s math checks out.

How many simple goals have you kicked at AFL?

I don't know if anyone mentioned it but I thought Worner was very poor last night. He looked lost and not sure where to position himself. His handballs were putrid and seemed to be guarding grass. He did improve as the game went on but the alarming thing to me was North were applying good pressure for most of the night and he seemed really rattled by it.

Also JLo mentioned that Treacy was the spare when he took that game-saving mark in the 4th. How in the world did 3 kangaroos all beat their man towards goal and get in back? Was really very poor. It was very noticeable on the night that we on a lot of occasions did not have a defender positioned in the goal square and it made it very easy for the Roos to ping that point of the ground.

Holy crap we could be equal 4th if we beat Essendon next week. That's bloody huge.

This win while it seems bad is actually huge for our season. We've won 3 games in the wet, and 2 close games where they threw the absolute kitchen sink at us. These types of wins only build belief and momentum with the group.

There were many times I found myself muttering "just make a contest of this" as a skied ball comes into the area and Worner threw himself backwards at it to create such. He didn't look to attack the ball on the ground much but given the amount of blocking etc he was doing it looked like he was instructed to let others win the ball while he protects the space for them to do it. He doesn't have the pace really to rebound quick like they did to us on occasion.

Oh and PurpleReign95 that cough on the podcast scares me a lot.
