The point you are overlooking is that you have a lot of time to recover from a dodgy free kick early in the game. The later in the game a dodgy free kick comes, the less time there is to recover. Therefore, dodgy free kicks late in games are more consequentialYou realise a goal is worth the same 6 points in both the 1st minute and the last minute yeah? Surely you can see that?

Some of those free kicks were so bad that they genuinely interrupt the momentum of play. You’ve got no idea how critical momentum is and how impactful it is having the game stopped and swung the oppositions way.
The free kick count in the game does not matter. It’s the free kicks at specific times that make all the difference. Hawthorn is given a huge ride and they did again last night.

Still have Lewis (prime age), Meek (26), Dear, MacDonald, Butler. There’s a few highly talented players at BH, like McCabe and Mraz.

Adelaide was given a massive boost by the umpires in the first half and threw it away with bad kicking. kick straight and the game would have been over by the time the umpires took their Crows jumpers off at half time.
