Was there much that really changed? The top end errors still stick out like dogs' balls to me. Betts 88? Nah.

Newer players like Duursma, Blakey, Smith and Marshall have gone up ratings, that’s a positive at least. Still don’t like the fact that Betts and Jones are higher than Docherty though. Rowell is still too low.

How do you guys even have time to position yourself in a marking contest? :P I'm finding it's "make a decision now" and I can either choose to mark, spoil or do nothing.

I'm not really much good at marking, so I go the fist a lot. My son, however, is amazingly good at marking. I'm better at moving the ball around to spare men, so I'm finding we have really epic matches, often with him getting it forward and me defending bravely. :P

Seemed to be getting an issue with custom teams.

Downloaded some custom teams from the community, eg. Hawthorn 2014. The player update caused some of the players to revert back to I guess the original models whoever made the team used? Like Shannon Hurn and Nat Fyfe were on the team all of a sudden, whereas Sam Mitchell was not, so I guess they used an in-game player as a model for Sam Mitchell?

Anyways, I deleted the team. I did this with a few custom teams that had this issue. Now I can't re-download that particular team (or Essendon 2000 or the All-Stars Bushfire custom team) because the game says I've already saved them. I've had no issue re-downloading some other teams (Collingwood 2010, Geelong 2007, All-Aus teams from 2017/18/19). So no idea why it's not allowing me to grab the other teams?

Not a huge issue, but a minor annoyance. FTR I can't even download Sam Mitchell as a singular player, as it says I've already saved him. He's not anywhere in any team/custom player/delist list. :/

If any WW devs are here, can you fix this? I'm reluctant to just reset the entire lists in case it stuffs up me downloading the other teams I've set up how I've liked (ie. all the state sides I've got setup now and an All-Star Legends I've downloaded and setup... no way do I want to lose any of those).
Yep, found that players were uploaded after just editing existing players (instead of being created from scratch) were reset to that original player.

I also can’t redownload them.

already reported this bug to WW.

I can confirm this fixes up your AFL team and player ratings without removing all your custom teams...

However...

I’m seeing some downloaded players I have on custom teams being reset to different names...
I.e Nick Riewoldt is now Max Lynch
Luke Ball is now Cosmo Carr

maybe they were created from these original base players... and the reset has changed them back?!?!

I've been on the fence about buying this game and this thread hasn't helped with that at all lol.

Not sure I can condone dropping $100 given all the bugs and supposed below par gameplay but on the other hand its footy...

Went back and watched AFL Live 1 on YouTube

Imagine like 4 more iterations on that and how good it could have been
agreed, was a solid first outing with room to make it better. Not to mention the fact that 9 years on that it’s arguably still the best AFL game

I emailed them directly - info@wicked-witch.com.au

No idea if it will help them fix stuff but it feels a bit more legit than listing on Facebook

I sent a message to them via messenger for my list, as I've heard they have respond to other people there rather than email. Who knows though. Doing both might have to be needed for consistency.

Why on earth can't you quickly change tactics during play without having possession of the ball? Once I get the ball, the last thing I want to be concentrating on is fiddling with the D-pad.
Have you tried calling "Barleys" as soon as you get the ball?

Any marking tips?

This seems to happen a lot with long balls into my defence. I'll be leading the forward by 2/3 metres to the blue circle. I'll press triangle and get a green circle, and clearly be in the best position. Then, the forward will slide/teleport right behind me and somehow take the mark in-front-of/through me, despite me being in a better position and having a green circle above my head.

This happens a lot, but is it me? I can't see any further marking tips that will assist me.

My rule of thumb is spoil unless you're 100% sure you're going to mark it or unless you can afford a turnover, eg. Never in your defensive half. Especially on higher difficulties they just cheese you every time.

I'm shit at remembering the button exists, getting better, but I've read others say holding L2 (the run to ball button) usually gets you in the right spot.

I'm enjoying slowing the game down & reducing the AI tackle distance with the sliders. Chains of handballs & running the ball down the field are far more effective. You have time to get a handball out if you click X/O before you pick up the ball, too.

I scored this nice goal this evening:

Careful, you're going the right way to get told you only like it because of nostalgia and rose coloured glasses.

How nostalgia made it the best selling game when it was current, or led to it having a massive online community that continued to share updated rosters right up until the 2017 season, I'm not sure.

Jesus ****ing christ. Post about your love for it in the afl live thread then.

Random AI one step snap kicks straight through the middle from 60m out are pissing me off.

It's either total spuds missing from the goal square or God mode.
Totally. I gave away a 50 in frustration and Charlie Dixon missed from the goal square. Then 1 minute later some no name potato snaps one from 60m right through the hi diddle diddle.

FINALLY got the game (bloody AusPost/Christians ;) ) and straight away implemented as many of the slider adjustments I could remember from Evo 1.
This includes turning up to the highest difficulty straight away. (Not because I’m good, but so AI plays smarter. I then balance this out below)

I then played a few test games to balance out the CPU to make an even contest.

Things like speed, endurance, man on man, tagging all go to single digits. (For both CPU an Player)
Then things like charging, throwing, in the back etc all get turned down to mid 30s, and both get their “time to prior opportunity” thingturned up to give more ball ups and less free kicks (initially I had this up really high to be like a real footy game, but to break up the ball ups, I’ve lowered it a bit to make u piers “pluck out a free” a bit more lol).

Tackle distance and effectiveness are down, as is CPUs tackle and pressure awareness.
Marking, I turn both spoiling up, and boosted my marking, and lowered theirs a bit.
^ these last 2, I’ve already slowly turned up as I get better and need cpu to stay with me.

Kicking, I turn in-play goal kicking down, especially for CPU. Also lower my mid and long range set shot kicking a fair bit to make it really challenging.

One thing I’ve noticed is that they’ve removed the “game speed” setting. Use to be 5 or 6 levels of “speed”, but they’ve taken this away? Would be good to find out from WW why they did this.

Edit: forgot to add, I went to team manager, and changed each of the 18 teams tactics. No one has man on man at kickout (either zone or press).
Most teams now play extra man back, but some play extra man on the ball.
Most teams press, either attack or neutral, some defensive.

I've removed the set shot bar and increased wind effects, makes them slightly harder but still making most. Also when I'm within ~20m of the goal instead of pressing O to begin the set shot animation I've been pressing x to kick after they've pushed back on the mark and they'll just shoot on goal.
Thats a good idea, im going to try it out

Betts should still have a high rating because he’s class is still there, it’s just his physical attributes that would be low. All the attributes that give him a high rating should still be up.

The game speed option was very useful, pretty dissapointed why this isnt in the game.

Why is everyone jumping on Ross's case when a WW dev slagged off AFL Live on a facebook forum while not disclosing the info that he was a WW dev fair game at that point imo

Two wrongs don’t make a right...bad look for all involved!

What happens if you remove the set shot bar? You just guess when you've held it long enough?

I'd hate to be on topic, but we still made the best selling AFL game of all time (you can't dispute that), and arguably the best game also.... anytime you want to hit that Ignore button just go ahead.

PS: BTW Both AO2 and Cricket 19 have higher review scores than AFL Evo 2, indeed in the same publication AO2 has an 8 whereas AFL Evo 2 has a 6.5 - but hey, fanboy's are never going to let the facts get in the way of a story.

Hello Ross, as you know I don't spend too much time on social media but something has attracted my attention. You have stated a couple of things , "you made the best selling AFL game of all time" and the " best game ( AFL?)". Can I assume you are talking about AFL Live? If you are, obviously we can argue all day about the best AFL game, at the end of the day the consumer decides but how do you quantify the best selling game of all time? What are we talking about here, games since NES? A comparison to AFL Evolution? What platforms? etc. I'm curious on how you have reached that conclusion.Sebastian

Is this really the real Tru Blu, no fooling? It's a subjective argument, but Big Ant made the most fluid and composed of them all, at least in my opinion. The others are too jagged and broken. Why couldn't you keep them going after Live 2011? For their first footy game attempt, it's amazing they brought the bar so high, and it could have grown into something special. I'm dying for something similar in gameplay like PES, Live 1 was the closest as AFL games go.
