And not having to worry about fans/finances because you know the AFL will always throw more money at you.
And a bigger salary cap (NSW only).
And having the AFL paying to promote your club and develop kids for you to take the cream when you claim them as part of your 'academy'.

ask the AFL to relocate then. I am sure they would love the tasmanian tigers :) perfect branding!!!!

I know we aren't supposed to make this thread about Carlton. But seriously, a Carlton fan complaining about the concessions GWS and GC got is mighty rich. You guys sucked at the teat of AFL draft pick largesse for years and years - and stopped doing so JUST when GC started distorting the draft. You were pushing for finals when GWS and GC were hoovering up all the young talent, and now you come back for more Number 1 draft picks as soon as the draft is pure again. None of your players of note have gone to either club. I could understand if this thread was started by a Dogs supporter or a Port supporter or a Crows supporter, but... the Blues?!

No-one has been affected less by the influx of GWS and GC than you guys. Yet the rest of us are moving on. Suck it up.

Oh, and if you are worried about us derailing your precious thread with Carlton talk.... I doubt anyone gives a stuff because we all came to terms with the issue of GWS and GC concessions 2-3 years ago. Bit late to the party, pal.

And made the best of the compensation they were given if they lost players unlike Carlton...........

AFL will always look after the code at the expense of some clubs, and always will unless private ownership comes in.

Any suggestions on who might grow the game other than the AFL, SANFL, WAFC ... a bunch of Mum & Dads with very deep pockets?

As it is the SANFL & WAFC punch above their weight, produce many more AFL footballers than required by the national comp on a state by state measure.

Care to name these teams?

The NFL sure as hell doesn't and it's one of the most equal leagues in existence.

The NBA does not, nor does the EPL (cash just reigns supreme there).

The NFL are pushing expansion into London so heavily that it's a better chance of happening than not.

What a shallow, bog ignorant, narrow blinkered view of equality.
Moron eh, the subject of the thread is 'AFL talks about equality' but you dont want to, yet you post to try to influence discussion - what sort of moronic behaviour is that?
Unable to handle views that challenge your own?

Nice melt. :$

But yes, you post the same BS in half the threads on here and refuse to acknowledge any other POV, so you calling anyone else "blinkered" is the height of hypocrisy.

But thanks for reminding me that I meant to boot you from this thread yesterday when you started on your tangent. :)

I remember that time. The crap that was offered was mindblowing.

Late edit:

Carlton offered Michael Aitken, a player who was by the time he had been offered was a doctor who was overseas, Bruce Reid, who had retired and Peter Kenny, who never played a game for them.

They later offered Neil Gaughan who had played 3 games for the Blues and played 3 for the Bears.

Carlton generosity....
Let's not forget the time they tried to kick the Swans out of the comp. Of course out of the goodness of their hearts they'd take the best players and even play their away games at the SCG.

I'm pretty sure that this issue is perplexing for everyone unless they happen to be supporters of the new franchises. It's hard to say whether it's right or wrong to give these clubs a leg up except that they are unlikely to advance the game in their respective states for a very long time without it. We all want the game to grow but you can't help but see the irony of calling the AFL a "competition" when its current aim is to kill any concept of true competition in favour of growth. The sad thing for these clubs in the end is that even if they do achieve success in this kind of model, that success will never gain the respect of supporters. No fairy tale rise built on hard work. No real kudos from opposition supporters. Just a permanent question mark against whatever they manage to achieve. I'm on the fence a bit because I want growth as much as the next person but you can't help but wonder if manufactured success is the ideal model.

Laidler had a pretty good game today. Took a number of intercept marks. Too bad Carlton's defence was so good he could not find a spot in it.
Their list management is ******* terrible.

Started all the way back when they got Judd in 8 years ago. Why give up Kennedy then have Whitnall retire at the same time? 2 key forwards gone in the same year replaced by a ruckman in Kreuzer.

Then we al know about their drafting busts like Lucas, Watson, Bootsma etc.

If they didn't get Daisy they would've had the cash to keep Betts and cash left over still for someone else who would've been decent and perhaps have delivered more than him so far. And they ditched Sauce Jacobs over a hack like Warnock :$

Now they go and get more recycled duds to make up for their already failed draftees from 3-5 years ago for the same output.

Get your priorities right Carlton

Still gotta play a season, make the top four, and win at least three finals. Not an easy thing for any team, regardless of their gestation to do.

Of course. There's no question marks against the players. Everyone recognises how good the Brisbane players were in their threepeat but how many don't have serious question marks over those 3 premierships? I would think pretty much everyone except Brisbane supporters.

It's as if you didn't even read my post

Every professional sport in Australia "manufactures" teams as a mechanism of expanding. Cricket, Soccer, Rugby Union, Rugby League, basketball etc have all planned new teams and given a group a mechanism to put together a team.

AFL: Adelaide, Port Adelaide, West Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast & GWS
NRL: Raiders, Broncos, Titans, cowboys, and many others during superleague)
Cricket: entire big bash league, IPL
similar for the other sports I mentioned.

I'm not familiar NFL or NBA mechanism of expansion, so can't give an informed comment on these, but being privately owned, I would think that they would do it differently.

There are heaps of examples of inequality in the AFL--the mini-draft being one of them, but the rest of the concessions GC and GWS got were probably warranted. Why wouldn't the AFL want their new teams to succeed? It's exciting to watch GWS play anyway (obviously I detached myself from the misery that is yet another Carlton thumping), much more exciting than it would be watching a flailing, failing new club play.

Bulldogs have no Friday night games, particular clubs haven't played each other 'away' for years, we still have academies and father-sons...there's a lot of ways the AFL is unequal.

Sadly you cannot offer the same as there wouldn't be that many players you would want to take.
