All Divisions General NFNL Discussion Thread

The comments around money making it uneven and unattainable for some clubs is just no different to men's footy. Player payments have been ****ing local footy for years - the women's comp will be no different.

See if Vafa will take you back? 🤷🏻‍♂️
If the committee asked me to vote on that as a member I would be a 'no' vote.

VAFA has player inducements, has for years and years is my own experience, and you are not much better/worse off these days in terms of what players are 'offered' to consider your club.

Add to that we also don't have scholarships to throw into the mix as a district club, so that would be unhelpful based on where we are located.

For us the move was a correct one to The NFNL I believe, but comes with new challenges for any committee to work through. Sometimes just saying 'no we can't do' is the best way forward for long term survival, even if short term pain.

My comment very much tongue in cheek, seems like the move to nfnl has been a great one for Ivanhoe, Parade, Banyule and the Turtles.

As long as clubs stay within their means player payments for men or women shouldn't be an issue, but unfortunately some clubs are chasing outcomes greater than their means, and end up selling the farm.

No, the issue is a select couple clubs offering ridiculous amounts forcing clubs to pull the pin because they can’t stay within their means or afford to compete. Huge fallout coming.

I think that just highlights a broader problem, especially in the nfnl, with retention of players in women's footy.

Offering players money isn't the issue, the issue is there isn't that many women wanting to play football in the NFNL. The big name signings reservoir announced have mostly come from other comps, so at least there some new players moving to nfnl.

If nothing else, it's good to see some healthy discussion about the women's footy.

Don't fully disagree, but what's the solution?
Personally I think it’s wrong that women’s teams are paying players after a short term in competition!
Strongly believe it is only the stronger clubs that get stronger and the weaker teams struggling to improve

Well done to the lads at the Northern Footy Show posting as many scores as possible in one space. While it’s only praccy matches it’s great to see what’s happening.
Thanks for the compliment. What we are ideally looking for is a person from each club to post on our fb page. We can give limited access so they can post their scores there too making it a central place for all scores 19's and up. Hit me up on the fb page if interested. Huge season ahead:hearts:

Not just the scores, but taking the time & effort to acknowledge milestone moments, such as the post celebrating our (Epping) first 19s team in over a decade, which generated heaps of traction, is bloody brilliant and really appreciated! They’re doing great things for the league.

West Heidelberg women’s have just lost 2 of their best players to Reservoir.

Assuming West have pulled the pin on the women’s season?
Are these the div 3 players you were speaking of that were offered big $$$? Or are there more to come

Do the women still have grading games? Surely they go straight to Division 1?
No grading games, find it interesting that Reservoir were one of the bottom teams in division 3 yet were given the privilege to start in division 2 whilst teams like whittlesea and Macleod stayed in division 3.
No chance a team like ivanhoe men’s could request to go to division 2 and it be approved - they would have to rise the ranks naturally.
Seems like Reservoir the last couple years are pulling strings throughout both mens and womens competitions.

The privilege? I think you’ll find most teams would rather play D3. From my info teams are falling over due to being placed in D2 knowing they will struggle
Compared to D3

Sounds like the league opted to ignore the complexities around womens football or have a lack of understanding around how player movements work. It’s not as clear black and white compared to mens football from one year to the next and now teams are going to be at risk because of it.

Tbh they can’t win. They grade, people complain, they introduce promotion and relegation, people complain.

Very welcome.
