It might be news to you that there is a world wide shortage of IC Nurses. Guess why?
Mate i work at the hospital i mentioned in my post above. Im giving an insight into whats happening. I watched my ex struggle to get employment as a nurse after graduating here during the outbreak of the pandemic, simply because she was born in Nepal. If you're going to ask a condescending sarcastic question you can cram it.

It's not just about deaths. Many examples of long term damage. Multiple infections I believe can have some pretty horrible results.

It's not just about whether YOU survive unscathed. The people you pass it on to may not.

Public health not private health.

For Christ sake...

Peanut gallery is full tonight, I see.

It’s not a peer reviewed journal.

There has to be a point where your level of knowledge is high enough that you can take part in an adult conversation FRUMPY.

Read up, then comment.

AN easily VERIFIABLE fact is THAT if a PERSON with COVID doesn't come in CONTACT with another PERSON then they WONT spread it.
IF a lockdown causes that IT must work.

No. This is simply incorrect.

The overwhelming majority of cases arise in homes, hospitals and nursing homes. Lockdowns have ZERO effect on those areas. Many people still work as usual not from home. They still go to supermarkets etc. Again lockdown doesnt affect that.

There is also the fact that lockdowns force people inside in to poorly ventilated houses rather than other places which are better ventilated. It also means rather than people socialising in pubs and restaurants they do it in poorly ventilated houses.

The FACTS do NOT support your argument.

Yeah lets just get rid of the notion of individual responsibility. The average life expectancy of a nursing home resident in the UK is apparently circa 18 months. For most of the last 12 months visitors have been banned due to covid. Thousands if not tens of thousands of elderly frail people will have died a terribly lonely and distressing death simply because some jobsworth decided that was the best thing to do. I am sure a huge % of those people would rather see their spouse / children and take the chance re the virus.

If you are in a high risk category then take precautions. It is utter madness to lock up healthy people. It is not only utterly immoral but proven to be ineffective.

The world followed the practice of a disgraceful communist dictatorship and amazingly its supported by plenty. This sets a shocking precedence for future behaviour be governments.

The regional government of Galicia in northwestern Spain has announced that the Covid-19 vaccine will be compulsory for all its 2.7 million inhabitants, and that fines for those who don’t follow the rules will go from €1,000 to €60,000.

Basically saying no, vax is not mandatory but wants all business etc to bar people without it as "incentives"

Take you pick from these articles

On then one hand if it grinds the virus out of the population that’s good. But also it’s a bit much. Most people will get it. If it looks like the nutters are winning and the take up isn’t high enough, then put the screws on.

What if as per the UK there is a very large difference in take up amongst different communities? You would effectively ban a large % of certain groups from a huge amount of social activity let alone travel not to mention the possibility of them being fired / not hired.

It would depend on the hardship caused. Maybe just start paying people to have it. Or work with the communities to get a decent percentage vaccinated.

Idiot anti-vaxxers and morons wailing about “it alters your DNA” have so much to answer for.

I dont think its necessarily hardship but its not hard to see some seeing it as persecution. Take places like France for example. Already with very high youth unemployment and even worse amongst some communities. This is only going to get worse and then on top of that you want the govt to say "no jab no social life". I would be very concerned over that if I was in govt. VERY.

Maybe just start paying people to have it. Or work with the communities to get a decent percentage vaccinated.

They are trying very hard to do that in the UK. The same groups most at risk of dying are the same groups most reluctant to get the jab. They are also massively over represented in NHS front line staff and nursing homes.

Totally agree. :thumbsu:

If it costs them work they can’t afford to lose then it’s hardship. They might be stupid for refusing but it won’t help to block them from work unless the work carries a big risk of infecting vulnerable people.

I suspect there will be a heap of court cases in the not too distant future over this. More than one union in the UK has said their members wont return to the office because its not "safe". Whilst that is obvious BS they potentially have a legal argument. So how to solve that?

I think in time the work from home advice given out by so many govts will come to be seen as disastrous. Ditto the avoid public transport advice.

The unintended consequences arising from govt actions during the pandemic IMO will be enormous.

I just don't understand how anti-vacc is a thing, with or without COVID.

The misinformation is obviously coming from somewhere, I have had family members share anti-vacc stuff on WhatsApp, god knows where they are getting it from.

Vaccinations have done countless good things, where does this crap even begin?

Happy to get the Vaccine (eventually) but will wait for the early adopters (Guinea Pigs) to flush out any unknown risks.

The oldies in QLD getting a massive dose without ill effect is encouraging.

Social media has given a platform to what would previously have been very niche corners of society. Somehow people get in to these areas and trends and go down the rabbithole.
Social media are actively taking away those platforms. I believe this is dangerous.
Public discord and debate should be encouraged to allow all parties to understand their concerns. After all, many vaccines are now far safer today because of the noise made by anti-vaxxers in the past.
I believe many "anti-vaxxers" wish to see more transparency of data and more open discussion. When they witness big tech being encouraged to censor them, that often only convinces them moreso that the truth is being hidden from them and the public.
For example, I currently believe the covid19 vaccines are working well, but their promoters are pushing some BS stats from some BS studies out there. But this is not uncommon when you have a good look at Big Pharma marketing of vaccine efficacy versus later independent studies of real world effectiveness of those same vaccines. I believe Israel data is currently being manipulated and exaggerated and that gives me some concern as to why they feel the need to do such things.

You are stating some interesting views but people here are often wary of a new poster. Are you new or a returned offender? :)

But where concerns are obviously unfounded and boosting them on popular communication channels would harm society as a whole, then no we don’t need to give all parties equal time. That’s just false balance.

My experience is they are only prepared engage in aspects of the data that reinforces their biases.

It's the only thing they look for, and they dispel anything which compromises their biases.

DryRot is a classic example of this. He does not even know how the immune system and vaccines work, yet soldiers on regardless making claims about how dangerous they are, according to disingenuous extrapolations of the data.
