Australian Selectors - Hats Off

Yet in all three tests up to a point they've had the upper hand. These guys have been up for delivering when it comes to that inflection point in the match and it's all flowed from there.
Have they? I would argue they haven't. Honestly McGrath could have made a century on that track. Add to that the failure of Shaun outside one innings and Cummins barely troubling the batsmen, picking up consolation wickets.

Shaun Marsh “a failure outside of one innings”. I don’t think so. 51 at a vital time in Brisbane. 126 and 19 in Adelaide, and 28 in Perth is a meritorious performance by almost anyone’s definition. Not by yours it seems.

As for Cummins, when he bowled largely on, or just short of a length, with the occasional bouncer thrown in, he troubled the batsmen a lot more often. Commentators were of the opinion that he could easily have snared a lot more wickets in the first 2 tests. Disagreed with Smith’s odd tactics of getting Cummins to bowl 80% of his deliveries as bouncers in the recent test. Absolutely wasted a large proportion of his deliveries.

Cummins doesn't know how to bowl outside of T20 and that's why his first class and test record is ordinary outside 1 game.
Was underdone when called on to replace Starc for last 2 tests in India. Yet he still managed 8 wickets at 30 on graveyard pitches for fast bowlers over there. That’s not ordinary. Nor is 25 wickets at 25.64 in your first 7 tests, on largely unfriendly pitches for pace bowling.

Maxwell did not miss out at the expense of Mitch Marsh. People really need to get this through their heads.

Marsh got selected because they wanted a fourth paceman, and it was pretty much him or Henriques (who is in disgusting form).
Also picked above Hilton Cartwright and Marcus Stoinis. And rightly so, given their form in Shield cricket.

This.

Bradesmaen just being silly.

Would love to see how many wickets the bloke up the other end has got while he's been bowling

Are people forgetting Marsh has only recently gotten back to bowling? He's not going to get it right immediately and he's already shown himself to be a Test standard fifth bowler in the past. Of all the things to whinge about.
Averaging 40 with the ball across 22 tests is 5th bowler standard? Maybe if he starts averaging 40+ with the bat it is. He was also only brought in over maxwell because his bowling would be required over maxwells off spin so using the excuse he has only just started bowling again doesn't fly.

They got lucky he scored runs imo because he barely bowled.

Selective statistics to suit your agenda, he has 25 wickets @ 30 since his return to the national side and if you look through all 3 series he has been consistently at that rate in each of them.

They aren't bad stats, but they aren't any better then a siddle/bird and they certainly shouldn't be keeping out a fit pattinson or even giving behrendorff a go.

5th highest batting average so far during the ashes and 5th most wickets, are you really suggesting we shouldn't be playing Cummins?

A shitpost designed to stir, but nonetheless:

Brisbane - Australia 4-70 chasing 302 before Smith and Marsh regain control and eventually dominate

Adelaide - England behind the majority of the game, arguably got back to quite close to parity in their fourth innings chase though being 3-169 after knocking us over in the third for stuff all.

Perth - 4-368. Hard to argue they weren't a position of command at that point. Even after breaking through Warner & Bancroft with 50 odd on the board would have still said they were in front in the game.

Marsh was crucial in getting the innings back on track in Brisbane, outstanding in Adelaide and instrumental in regaining control with a disciplined knock in Perth.
To not value Cummins contribution to Australia's position in the series is downright ignorance as well.

No. A post designed to point out truth. I couldn't give a * if you got your knickers in a knot.

Shaun Marsh has 51, 126*, 19, 28, 61, 4, 156.
Mitch Marsh has 181, 9, 29*, 101.
Cummins has 20 wickets @ 27 and has been more economical than Hazlewood and Starc.

Can't really be unhappy with any of those 3. Would prefer Cummins bowled fewer short balls but he's got plenty of top 6 batsmen out.

Paine has been a bit leadfooted covering first slip, which is disappointing. Otherwise his glovework has been pretty good.

Jury's still out on his batting. I'm not convinced that Nevill or Wade would have done much worse on home decks.
