Autopsy Autopsy vs Carlton - absolutely bashed the shit out of the Blues

Dude - you would be the worst at parties.

If the sides were reversed - you’d be saying “yeah, wouldn’t read into all the goals we kicked in the last. Game was dead by then and the other team stopped”

Give me a spell. We’ve won sub 20 games since 2020. Gloss? Get a grip.

Unreal win - no two ways about it
First three quarters. Massive tick.

Last quarter. Genuine dross.

If this happened. If that happened.

It didn’t.

Forget the last quarter.

For a while, every team will think they can get us. They can beat up on us. That we’re not worthy.

But today, for three quarters, we made them think otherwise.

So they should go into next week with an Alastair Clarkson scowl. Maybe they shouldn’t sing the song as hard. And with Sheezel’s words of “not good enough in that last quarter” echoing in their minds, put their efforts into believing that from now on they ARE good enough and damn well will be.

❤️

His impact isn't accurately measured in the number of legitimate disposals he has. It felt as if we subbed out intent when we subbed him.

I don't think our club rates the Wardlaw/Phillips pressure and intent as highly as we would like.

imo there is a huge difference with the midfield defensively when they are playing/on the ground.

In a weird way, this is the perfect result from a coaching perspective.

First, we take the 4 points so everyone feels good. We need wins to build confidence.

Clarko can say look at the 90 odd point improvement since Good Friday.

But also that horrible fade out provides him the perfect opportunity to teach about how to close out games.

Win, confidence gained, sense that we’re on the right track and a big learning opportunity. Fantastic.

I’m happy to see Sheezel slowly getting back to his best.

Harley Reid has never played a game as good as Colby. I don’t care what anyone says, I’m happy we have Colby. I’ve never seen a player as hyped as Reid based on so little actual output.

I now EXPECT us to get one win from our next three of Hawks in Launceston, Dogs at Marvel and Dees at the G.

Last week I said we’ve improved from depressing to frustrating and the next step is to get to cautious optimism. I think we’re still at “frustrating” but we’re definitely building.

Finally, today was just a great day at the footy. Blue sky, 56k crowd at the MCG, and a win against Carlton on a Saturday arvo. You’ve just got to enjoy days like this and save the analysis for Monday.

What a miserable bunch of arseholes you lot are.

Haven't beaten this lot since 2021, even longer since it's been on the G. All the young players showed stacks, we put the Blues to the sword physically and mentally for three quarters, and continued the form we've showed over the last two and a bit months to get a W. Casual 93 point turnaround from GF too.

And it's all misery and mewling in here. Oh we should have won by more. Greedy bastards
Finally some sense is spoken in this thread.

Just rewatching the second quarter and I have an overwhelming desire to reach into the TV and punch Gerard Healy in the head.

Our best footy is awesome. Our worst is the pits.
Our last is just not working hard enough. Once they're able to run out an entire game, they'll be right. The talent is already there. And cleaning up the silly turnovers. But I also think that will improve with better fitness.

Pretty important perspective, that I think I needed too. The fact that the fade-out means that Clarko won't be happy with them is golden given this group's propensity to drop off after a few performances deemed by outsiders as acceptable. More opportunity to try and get the message home that we should, in the last quarter, be trying to play with the same sort of abandon as the remaining three, even if it buggers us.

I'd rather keep attacking and run out of gas than play conservative and invite the wolves. You could feel Carlton's hunger building. The ball that put the margin back into odd numbers was agonisingly close to going the other side of the post, and then I'd say there's a fair chance we're lamenting a 1 point loss.

We're still more talented than we're showing, but at least pieces are coming together, albeit slowly. Cannot fault your assessment of the day either

Forget about the last quarter. Wallpapered over some serious cracks for Carlton.

Do you guys know, how painful it is to lose to that mob? Any win is satisfying against the paper bag specialists. Carlton couldn't handle us for two quarters when our pressure and intensity was on. That is a huge positive and I have been pretty negative about our progress this year. Smashed their midfield, smashed their forwards, smashed them in pressure intensity and smashed them in transition. All the key elements of a good football team were on display.

Enjoy that shit because we've been waiting for that day.
