Bomber Considering Bringing King In?

Could be a smart ploy, even if he doesnt plan on bringing him in it keeps Blake and Ottens on their toes and makes them play with a bit more effort ;).

Agreed..

Would be silly to bring King back so soon, but it can't hurt to keep Blake and Ottens on the straight and narrow and keep King under consideration and see what he can do in the magoos and let him know he's still in the sight of Bomber.

I hope its just talk, on form he is not in our best 22

if King comes in, Hawkins goes out and Nablett will probably stay out and Otto goes into the forward line

he played there last year without success, so why take a backwards step

Agree, plus its meant to rain on Saturday so it would be silly to take 3 ruckmen into the game.

A lot on BF have written off Kingy, including me to an extent but I think Kingy needs another shot.

If you cast your mind back all the way to Round 6 where the daggers were flying around for the whole team, a lot of players such as Linga, Wojak and Enright were getting a pasting. King was another. Since then, our side has lifted to the next level and there are very few "passengers" now.

Kingy has had injury holding him down for the last 9 wins and has not shared in the success of the team of late. I'd like to give Kingy another chance to prove his worth as have a lot of the other "passengers" from early on this year.

Having 3 fit ruckmen if form come september will be an unbeleivable asset. Brisbane won a number of flags a few years ago using a 3 ruck system where one of them only played in September.

Lets give Kigy the chance he deserves. The same chance the entire team has been given in the past 9 weeks which Kingy has missed out on.

I can't believe he said that with a straight face (since been an article, I cannot pick up any wry smiles from his words)

I think he is just letting King know that if his form warrants it he can come back into the side. It is much more productive to his rehab than to hear bomber say there is no room in the team for 3 ruckman, and based on Otto's and blakes form together means he would be simply waiting for injuries to those two guys before he gets a look in.

If he can get some real good form and fitness then who knows, but for bringing him in next week against the pies, a finals like game, straight from the surgeons table and with all the problems he has had taking the field without match fitness is so ridiculous it will not happen.

He literally cost us the Hawthorn match in round 3 when he handpassed the ball straight to Shane Crawford, who goaled and put them in front and gave them the momentum with a minute or two left.
As mentioned before, we will just be going backwards by bringing him back to the team.

I'd have to agree with you here, I reckon you blokes have moved on past the days of needing King in the side...let's face it, you are blitzing without him.
Hey, is there any chance young Ryan Gamble might squeeze in a senior game this season?

In 2002 Steven King won the Carji Greeves medal for the best player at Geelong that year. He played all 22 games and in that year he had 2 games were he did not get 20 hitouts or more and there was no games where he got less than 10 possessions.
Since that year he has played 4 seasons (not counting this year) and hasn't managed to play every game throughout the year, he has missed (counting home and away games) 9 in 03, 9 in 04, 6 in 05 and 6 in 06.

Now we all know that missing these games was not due to poor form, it was due to injury. This says to us that when Steven King is FULLY fit he is damn near good enough to get a game in our best 22.

I personally love what the likes of Blakey and Otto are doing, they in my opinion are one of the most underrated ruck combinations in the league, but with 38 hitouts in the magoos last week, it says to me that Kingy could be getting a bit fitter every week and don't be shocked if they find a spot for him in the next few weeks.

We know he has the ability but fully fit, he might just be a little key to Geelongs success come September.

Fellow Geelong supporters are welcome to get on the Kingy bandwagon any time they like, i am, but be warned, it will fill up quick if Kingy can strike the form of 02 and early 03.

There were plenty of Harley doubters around saying that his best was past him and look how he has come back, lets hope the same can happen for King.

Frankston were missing one of their usual ruckmen on Sunday but Kingy's ruckwork was pretty awesome. He virtually played in the centre square as a link man hence the 18 possies and probably only played about 60% of the game time.

Give him a couple more weeks and let him come in and have an impact straight away. We don't want to see him slowly build up to it in the AFL.

Spot on. King deserves another go in Seniors to see whether or not he can cut it. He needs to earn his spot, at the same time it restores his confidence that his body is right. My (ample) gut tells me he will play a major part at the end of the season. Don't forget Blake is still a boy and the rigours of his first full season could be taking its toll come september.

Bomber loves Kingy so nothing would surprise me. But maybe he was just being coy, playing some pre-match mind games. I think most of Bombers pre-match comments about players coming in or going out have been pretty inaccurate. The other week he said 2 would be dropped and there was no change. I'd take what he says to the media with a grain of salt.

We've won 9 in a row and King hasn't been a part of any of those wins.

Why fix something that isn't broke?

He's been a great servant of the club, but lets face it, he hasn't done anything for 5 years, due to his body not being able to handle the rigours of AFL footy anymore. The fact that he performs so well in the VFL just shows the chasm in quality between the two leagues, hence why guys like Shannon Byrnes and Charlie Gardiner star, yet are way out of their depth in the AFL.

The only way King should come back in is if either Otto or Blakey suffer an injury (heaven forbid). Our team balance is almost perfect at the moment, bringing King will just upset it horribly.

This would be the 3rd or 4th time since King got dropped that Bomber has said he wouldn't be scared to bring him in.It won't happen.Ottens and Blake are doing more than fine.Bringing in King just unbalances the team.

Anyway,King should play at least 3 VFL games before he's even considered.Somehow I doubt he'd be able to get through 3 consectutive VFL games.

Unfortunately I dont feel that Bomber is just saying it. He actually plans on bringing King back at some stage , But Im will be shocked if its not until about round 18 against someone like Richmond. Let him test himself in the 2s for a fair while and if his injuries stands up ok then try him at Geelong. This one this week is too big for risks in my opinion.

Re: King for Hawkins

King for Hawkins?

No argument given, no reasoning behind it

Thread-worthy?

What needs to be said? King has had a terrible run with injury, but deserves one more chance. He was our captain last year for **** sake. Is he only to play two more games before being delisted? Kingy used to be one of my favourite players. He was and still can be a gun. He has been a servant of the club for almost a decade, and deserves a shot at playing out the best chance we have had at a flag in a long time. His form has been alright - he has dominated numerous VFL games, and I believe we should give him one more chance to prove himself before the finals campaign begins.

Re: King for Hawkins

No chance. When will people learn to give players a decent go in the VFL after injury before they are even considered.

Hes only had one VFL game hasnt he, Big mistake to rush him in , surely he should spend at least a few more weeks in the 2s

well thanks for bringing the case.

Ok, I agree King could be a boost for us, but if we're gonna bring him back I wouldnt of thought this was the best environment to do it in. A game of this magnitude?

if the gamut is real about Bartel's groin and Trav and Gaz's flu - we might have a couple late changes as it is...we need to be as settled as possible.

All of a sudden im seriously nervous about this game.
