How about a charity cricket match with a team made up of bowlers versing a team of batters. One innings would be entertaining irrespective of how flat pitches are these days

So hypothetically the batters win by an innings and 118 runs

All-rounders would beat both a team of batters and a team of bowlers - interested in a game with specialist bowlers (ie bat number 11) vs specialist batsmen

You'd have to set some restrictions to the game so you don't get all-rounders playing. I'm thinking for the bowlers, a test batting average below 15. And for the batsman, a bowling average above 60.

Teams based on ICC rankings.

Batsman XI

1. David Warner
2. Dimith Karunaratne
3. Virat Kohli
4. Cheteshwar Pujara
5. Babar Azam
6. Ajinkya Rahane
7. Quinton De Kock
8. Mayank Agarwal
9. Rohit Sharma
10. Tom Latham
11. Ross Taylor

Bowling XI

1. Neil Wagner
2. Kagiso Rabada
3. Mohammad Shami
4. Kemar Roach
5. Nathan Lyon
6. Yasir Shah
7. James Anderson
8. Taijul Islam
9. Mohammad Abbas
10. Josh Hazlewood
11. Jasprit Bumrah

So a genuine battle between bats who can't bowl and bowlers who are bunnies.

Both sides have severe weaknesses.

The batsman XI has no pace bowlers. They'd have an attack mostly comprised of medium pacers, slow straight bowlers and bad off spin. Half the team has never bowled at Test level.

The bowling XI has no obvious wicket keeper and would generally be awful in the field. Several players average single digits with the bat and many don't have even a Test 50.

The batting team would probably each score slightly below expected given they're facing effectively the world XI bowling line up, but with extreme depth they'd put up a very good total. There are no easy wickets.

The bowling team should be able to slog the terrible batting-bowlers around the park and score well above expected... but would it be enough? Part timers can still take down bunnies.

I think it'd be close but I'd favor the batting XI to put up a huge total and hope for the bowlers to make errors and get themselves out while batting

Nathan Lyon would want to open the batting

Depends a lot on your classification of batsman v bowlers and where the match would be played.

Let's pick a couple of teams from the current top 20 in the ICC rankings

Batsman

Warner
Pujara
Smith - 17 wickets at 56 (legspin)
Kohli
Williamson - 29 wickets at 40 (offspin)
Azam
+De Kock
Labuschagne - 12 wickets at 38 (legspin)
Root - 28 wickets at 50 (offspin)
Stokes - 147 wickets at 33 (fast medium)
Mathews - 33 wickets at 52 (medium fast)

Bowlers

Philander - 8 50s, ave 24
Cummins - 2 50s, ave 17
Lyon
Jadeja - 1 hundred, 14 50s, ave 35
Holder - 3 hundreds, 8 50s, ave 32
Ashwin - 4 hundreds, 11 50s, ave 29
+Starc - 10 50s, ave 22
Broad - 1 hundred, 12 50s, ave 18
Rabada
Wagner
Bumrah

Obviously a lot would hinge on Stokes with the ball. Philander and Cummins probably best suited against a good quick and Lyon used to be a decent nightwatchman before he turned into a slogger so if they saw him off with the new ball and let the middle order loose against the part time spinners they could make a few runs. I mean Broad and Starc have kind of lost their nerve a bit with the bat but if they don't have to face gun quicks who is to say they can't average 30+ if they are just facing part time spin and a bit of Stokes. On a batting track or a wicket that takes spin you'd have to favour the batsman but on a green deck in SA the bowlers could potentially cobble together enough runs to make it competitive.

One would have to consider three matches played on three different pitches or batters vs bowlers - flat wicket, something in it for batters and bowlers and a green top

Probably three posts per day on these boards are relevant and the other 7655678886556 are redundant. Gotta love Big Footy
