Threads like this are always going to pop up because he is a member of the staff and not on a lengthy contract which both parties are happy with, and like contracts mean SFA anyway when clubs sack coaches but all of a sudden Bolton is a target!

lol and this place will never change.

Carlton need to throw the kitchen sink at Brendan McCartney to come over as an assistant coach. The bloke is a deadset genius at developing kids and teaching them how to play footy in the right way. He would work wonders with kids like Dow, Silvagni, Fisher etc
This is a good idea. I think we were doing extremely well when Bolton had someone to go to and reflect. Last year we had Neil Craig until he moved on. It’s currently barker in this role but I’d prefer someone like macartney. He’s the sole reason the dogs got to the grand final and won. He didn’t get to stay around for the glory and Beveridge basked in it. By the looks of it Beveridge is moving players around way too much now and not settling on positions. I go off topic here. But the idea is great. Huge talent is macartney. Very under valued.

If he is such a genius why did he get sacked as the Bulldogs coach?

Why sack a cheap labour type coach that can be controlled.
Just wait until list improves and a worthwhile coach comes onto the open market.

They will be waiting a damn long time, List will never improve, the Blues will always be s**t.

I'm 'ludicrously overrating' them by mentioning their names as some of the better players in a team that finished 5th and was a kick shy of a prelim?
I'll admit that Hendo probably hadn't hit his straps by then, but Scotland was one of the better HBF in the league at the time, averaging 26 touches, 7 marks and 4 inside 50s. Robinson will never be a star player, but a solid contributor and will always give you around 20 touches and 5 tackles. Had arguably one of his best seasons in 2011.
How good were Murphy and Gibbs? Both were kicking a goal a game and 29 and 24 touches respectively. Betts kicked 50 goals that year and was only our 2nd highest goal kicker.
Respectfully, the only thing rubbish, is your opinion.
Pretty ordinary list of players that
Honestly, Carlton's midfield during Ratten's run was young and spectacular. As a Carlton supporter at the time, there was a lot to look forward to and be bedazzled by. With Brett Ratten as coach, you had Chris Judd, Kade Simpson, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, and Matthew Kreuzer running around in the midfield, and despite the last three being incredibly young, they were breathtakingly good.

Chris Judd was in career best form for Carlton during Brett Ratten's time as coach. He won three best n' fairests (2008, 2009, 2010), came runner-up to Gary Ablett in the Brownlow Medal count in 2009, gained his second brownlow medal in 2010, and garnered multiple All-Australians (2008 [Captain], 2009 [Vice-Captain], 2010, 2011[Vice-Captain]).

As young as Marc Murphy was at the time, he was in career best form under Brett Ratten, too. In 2011, he managed to get named All-Australian.

Kade Simpson was insanely reliable at the time; he played from Round 15, 2005, until Round 15, 2012, before missing a match with a broken jaw (holding a club record for the second-most consecutive games, beaten only by club-legend Bruce Doull by the thinnest of margins).

In 2009 (before succumbing to ongoing injuries), Matthew Kreuzer was already playing at a standard very similar to now at only nineteen years old. He was already good at being a mobile ruckman, getting possessions, clunking marks, and kicking goals at an absurd standard for his age.

Brett Ratten also had a forward-line that consisted of Brendan Fevola, Jarrod Waite, Andrew Walker, Eddie Betts, and Jeff Garlett.

He had one of the most damaging rebound defenders at the time in Chris Yarran.

Basically, Carlton had a great deal of class on all lines of the ground during Brett Ratten's run as coach.

The only thing that went wrong was 2012.

Even Tim Watson could coach this team to a 50% win loss record, there are more top 10 recruits in this Carlton Rabble than most other teams excepting the Giants. How they aren't middle of the ladder is beyond me - Wietering, Dow, SPS, Kruezer, Cripps, Plowman, Marchbank with Curnow taken 12th and Docherty 12th also. This has to be a joke that they aren't playing finals by now. Fold them up and be done with it.

Weitering - out of form and injured, played well last two weeks
Dow - 1st year player
SPS - 2nd year player yet to do a preseason, starting to have a impact in the last few games
Kruezer - on one leg
Cripps - dead set gun
Plowman - played every game
Marchbank - played 4 games this year and been off injured early in 2 of them
Docherty - out for 2018 with a knee

Take out Gibbs and Murhpy who has played 4 games and been injured in 2 of them and we are basically missing 3 of our top 4in last years b & f.
Our replacement for Gibbs in Matt Kennedy has played 5 games and been injured in two of them.

Until we get the majority of our list injury free and playing again its too early to judge.

And for such a rabble your mob could only beat us by 10 points.

Keep your hands of Mitchell as a replacement, this guy is doing over and above what the expected output of a 1st year deputy coach should provide.
