Make Weidering Captain and Silvagni Vice capt
Trade TDK and McKay
Bring Hinkley in as Football director or whatever you want to call him to see over all the football dept.
Have a good hard look at the SC group and bring in the best they can afford try and bring in a free wheeling back flanker next trade period.

They’ve got talent with the Camporeale kids, Jagger in rehab, another father son (Dean?) and Walkers kid coming but…

Should’ve seen this coming and thrown more money at Houston

Wilson and Young (our MSD) pick have just been announced as debutants for tomorrow. Maybe Voss heard you

He half heard me, where is Boyd lol.

Just what they needed to blow at least their first this year and maybe next on Houston. There's no Jagga if they did that. He is needed more than Houston.

Probably. But theres always twists and turns to every season.

Exactly 12 months ago Carlton were sitting 2nd on the ladder and had just gone ahead of Sydney in the premiership odds market. Now we're here debating nuking the joint and full rebuilding or not.
Now’s not the time to despair. Pies are always ready to assist, as we’ve demonstrated in the past. In 2013 we sent over Agent Malthouse as coach, then in 2014 Agent Thomas as a player. Now Agent Wright is set to take over as Carlton CEO, to really finish the job the other 2 started.

No need to thank us.

Might be right, but it’ll be another two years before Jagger is close to fifty games and it would have been three years with Houston.
I dont know why it fell through but if it was about dollars, then I think it they missed an opportunity

Wright left on his own terms. Nothing to do with the sleeper agent plan that Malthouse began

I must be the only person in Australia who thinks Motlop will be a good player.

I think he's struggling in a broken system, in a role that's probably too confusing to him. Put him in a good team and he'll shine.
I'm probably in the same boat but I get seduced by class at times. I was sure Liam Henry would turn out good (enough for the big time) too.

Which just takes you into the highly compromised Tassie drafts.
Correct. Bad timing for sure but what else is there to be done, not like we can just buy players anymore lol

That's just asking for trouble.
Any more so than continuing on with this "well we might only be a few pieces away" approach we seem to have had for 4 years? I'd suggest not.

Feel you almost have to take the Kings ransom from the Saints for TDK- two firsts surely is fair there
Oh for sure, I don't want him. He's a good player but not 1 million+ per year good, can't be paying that for a ruckman.

and trade Harry to one of the 10 clubs that need a genuine key (Melb, Sydney, etc). You can get 2 firsts this year one next year for those three alone. It's a rebuild on the run, and you have Jagga in your pocket to come in next year too
Yeah wouldn't be averse to trading either Charlie or Harry at this point. Supposed to be a weak draft this year though and again, 2-3 (or even 5-6) changes aren't gonna get it done, even if they all come off. We don't exactly have a great record with imports from other clubs, to put it mildly :tearsofjoy:

With our luck I wouldn't be surprised if Jagga never plays a single AFL game lol, you'd want to see him get through a season before counting on anything he might provide.

Carlton wanted Jagga way more that simple

Didn't want to spend the money knowing De Koning was going to cost them and we would rather Jagger anyway.

Why would you make Silvagni vice-captain?
I think plays with alotve heart week in week out.
A bit limited and doesn’t have alotve tricks up fwd but always brings the effort and he loves the club.

Why would you make Silvagni vice-captain?
Is it because of the name?
He has yet to establish himself as a truly solid player. Neither played in a final.

Remember when Adelaide and North Melbourne made van Berlo & Swallow captains?
At least they were established players.

They can't throw money at star players like Houston as they are overpaying blokes like Williams, Curnow, McKay (lol) and Walsh to name a few.
You haven't watched Carlton once this season, nearly our most important player.

Yep, early on I just didnt think he would make it, and maybe the name kept him in it early. But he's been seriously impressive second half of career and earned his individual acolades. He just has a red hot go and clearly belongs - definately shows some leadership qualities, particularly recently to warrant that VC dsicussion

They would've got a better price trading a crocked Walsh, although who knows if Kennedy was ever going to reach this nearly All Australian form at Carlton (where he was decent, but not a star).
He did have a similar goal kicking ball magnet patch around the start of '22, but yeah agree in general. More an indictment on our system I reckon.

What would your changes to the list be? Who would you get rid of for the right price?
Of the players out of contract at the end of this season:
Carroll: Re-sign
Charleson: Re-sign
Cincotta: Re-sign
Docherty: Retire
Evans: Delist
Fantasia: Delist
Haynes: Re-sign (one year)
Kemp: Trade one of him or McGovern
McGovern: Trade one of him or McGovern
Lemmey: Re-sign
Monahan: Delist
Motlop: Re-sign
Newman: Re-sign (one year)
Silvagni: Re-sign
White: Re-sign but if list spots are tight...
Wilson: Re-sign
F.Young: Re-sign
Duffy: Re-sign but if list spots are tight...

On the others that are either contracted or entering free agency:
TDK: Happy for him to leave. Frees up 1M in salary and gets us a top-10 pick in compensation. No ruck is worth what he is about to be paid unless your name is Max Gawn. If he stays then McKay more likely to be moved on imo.
McKay: Would be listening to offers but wouldn't be trading unless the package was around two first round picks (with one being top-10) or a single first rounder and good player that would immediately slot into the team.
Saad: Happy to move him on

In that sort of situation we would let got of about 2.5-3.0 million dollars in salary. And will gain three first round picks or two first round picks and a good player. Plus we add Harry Dean in who is projected to be a 1st round pick this year hopefully with some later selections.

I'd use one of those first round picks in the draft and take a classy ball user with some speed. Some on our board like Lindsay but not sure where abouts he is likely to fall. And with the other pick + any other trade capital I could see us targeting Bergman to play him in the midfield. I'd also be going hard at a player like Campbell (if they offer up a package for McKay). Not many small forwards looking to move based on the rumour mill would be trying to go after a Liam Ryan type. Maybe a second-round pick would do it?

Still lots of questions but I think they can do quite a bit this off-season to improve footskills and pace in the team.
