That would make us slower, but maybe our foot skills would improve and it wouldn't matter

Quality ball movement makes teams fast. The ball will always move faster than the person.

Teams always look slower when they are chasing.

Why are some people saying to take out danger he had 27 disposals 2 goals if he didn't give one off to eddie, 18 contested possessions,7 clearances and 5 inside 50s if we had beaten west Coast he surely would've got votes

I don't want danger out but moved forward, did you watch his game?? Most of those I50s were high balls that went to the oppositions loose defender and rebounded straight back out over our heads.

His disposal efficieny was also at 53.8%.

Danger either needs a rest from his injuries or played a bit differently as when he tries to do everything it tends to hurt us a bit. Would like to see him forward as he is super quick, can take a contested mark, can kick a goal and his disposal efficiency wouldn't hurt as much.

Rotate him into the mids as and when required.

Changes for Brisbane game...

What I would do:
Out: Wright (too slow, makes terrible decisions, can't kick), Laird (like him, but horribly out of form), Podsiadly (shit he was bad - historically bad), L Thompson (out of his depth in a key post)
In: M Crouch, Lyons, Lynch, Rutten (the Lynch selection assumes that he has a ripper game today)
Sub: Mackay (lucky to be retained after that pea-hearted effort yesterday - was too busy counting his money to get any meaningful touches)

What will probably happen:
Out: Grigg
In: M Crouch
Sub: M Crouch

We need to bear in mind that Talia would only be 50/50 for this game too (Concussion / knee). IMO this means Rutten MUST come in to add some experience to the backline.

I think we need to give Cameron another run in the reserves.

Kerridge is clearly not ready.

Sam Shaw is a pretty big chance to come in but I'd prefer Rutten's experience and strength for this fixture. Do we really want ANOTHER guy in the 22 with awful footskills?

Nobody else on our list should be considered for AFL football at this point.

Just on Laird - Sando putting him on Shannon Hurn was quite possibly the most stupid thing we've seen since Podsiadly went to Troy Menzel. Gave away 9cm and 18kg (and 18kg is being kind to Shannon I think). Not to mention that Laird should never be anywhere near our forward line (even in a defensive capacity). ****ing moronic.

It's not his raw numbers that are the issue. He's been burning the ball constantly. If Danger gets the ball, there's like a 50% chance he'll kick is straight down the oppositions throat.

In crouch,lynch,Cameron

Out pods-injured/omitted, Martin-omitted, laird-omitted

We will rebound against the lions but this was one screw up too many

Come on, we all know it will be Lyons for the sub vest!

Do you really want Talia, Rutten and Otten in the same defense? Speed wise we would be killed and who do Brisbane have for these tall defenders?

Rutten on Merrett (he is playing forward today)
Talia / Otten on McStay
Otten / Talia on Close (Otten takes the slower of the two)

I'd rather that than relying on LT tbh.

In all seriousness, I think Sam Shaw might come in. I'm just not a fan.

At practically full strength, we couldn't beat West Coast at home, in fact they smashed us.

Apart from Lynch, we only developing players or players that we have ruled a line through (or at the very least should have) in the SANFL

If ever there was a time to make a statement at the selection table, this is it. It's not longer a case of simply planning for life beyond Thommo, Podsiadly and Rutten, we also need to be planning to ensure that the likes of Martin, Henderson, Otten, Wright and Mackay are not first choice players.

Laird is a good footballer but has no real weapons. The best thing about him last year was his disposal under pressure in defense but with the emergence of Jaench, Laird seems almost a redundant, roleless, nothing player. I would take him out and keep him as a depth player imo.

Out:
Laird
Pods (injury/rest)
Talia (injury)
Luke Thompson

In:
Lynch
Cameron (sub)
Sam Shaw
Rutten

This would add a bit more run and offensive pressure at maybe the expense of some contested work.

Well then we should play him forward not drop him

I never said we should drop him. He needs to seriously work on his kicking though. Playing him up forward would rob us of one of our best contested mids. We need him in the middle more than we need him up forward. Douglas has been poor this season, Crouch is inexperienced and Thompson is on his way out. We can't just take out a contested beast like Dangerfield when we don't have proper replacements.

Also bringing Danger into the forward line isn't going fix our problems there either. Most of those issues are related to our tall forwards being woefully inconsistent, and our forward structure being appalling. Danger might give us some extra speed in there but I don't see how that will help us if our midfield continually keeps bombing the ball high.

But our midfield is one of the places we are having major issues. Kicking high balls, not running defensively, etc.

We have players in the 2nds who are known for being clearance players (Lyons, M. Crouch and even CEY), why not play danger forward and bring one of these guys in.

Would also prefer Grigg getting a full game as his foot skills are probably the second best in our team behind Smith.

Danger this year has been a major culprit of kicking it directly to the oppositions loose defender.

I love Danger and when he is on song he is one of the best players in the competition but at the moment he is definitely not on song.

God no. What Rory gives us defensively is underrated. Weapons? How about the fact that he's fearless and makes good disposal decisions under pressure?

Talia will be out this week with concussion and JPod will be doubtful, so expect Brisbane to play as tall as they can this week. Coupled with a really smooth midfield at the moment and we're in trouble again.

We need Lynch and M Crouch in, and may have to bring McKernan (god help us). CEY would be a better option than McKernan, but won't happen.

In: Lynch, Crouch, McKernan
Out: Talia (inj), Pods (inj), Wright

Honestly I think we are a poorly coached side when it comes to moving the ball to effective outside players. I think the better sides are able to make sure they can get the ball to their better kicking players by the time it gets to half forward. I cringe when I see players like Thompson and Dangerfield being our trigger on a forward 50 entry when they obviously can't hit the side of a barn. We need to have guys like Smith, Henderson, Jaensch and Mackay delivering the ball inside 50. These are the only guys in the side I can see hitting their targets with any consistency.

Obviously those players I've mentioned may have traits that make them unsuitable for midfield duties. I just think our current obsession for one-paced, ball winning, insiders with questionable foot skill isn't getting us anywhere. Opposition teams know that even in the off chance they lose it on the inside, we will turn it over somewhere down the track.

Out: Otten, Wright, Laird, S Thompson, Pods
In: Rutten, Cameron, Lyons, M Crouch, Lynch

- Danger forward/mid
- Lyons and Crouch mid
- Cameron forward
- S Thompson to rest up for a couple games, back for NM game.
- Otten out of defence, Rutten comes in because Hartigan is unavailable.
- LT to play as a 3rd tall, not a KPD.
- Lynch in for Pods if the old fella too banged up

- ON NOTICE: I'm not into shaming players but it's time Sando produced a few DVD's for the boys and draw a line in the sand on unacceptable acts. If that means repeat offenders are pointed out in the process, so be it. Needless to say Jenkins, Henderson, Mackay, S Thompson

DVD Titles:
1) Missed, useless, pea-hearted, clumsy tackles
2) Soft squibbing of aerial contests
3) Weak attack on the contested ball
4) Lazy lack of leading for the ball
5) Front-running, unaccountable midfielders racking up cheap, ineffective, butchered disposals while their opponents carve us up.

Any player who repeatedly gets in the same DVD series should be dropped.

If that means McKernan comes in for Jenkins so we can teach him a lesson then so be it.

Otten and Laird.... ahead of Henderson ???

Let's play Lyons as sub this week or better still make him the traveling emergency again...
GF selectors...

Out: the injured/not fit and the gutless head wobblers and the dinky little handballers
In: Lyons, M Crouch, Lynch...

if you handball to a hot team mate then your being a soft bastard... harden up and give to a mate in the clear or piss off back to where you came from...
if you cant hit a target by foot under pressure... how do you get a game? its called football for a reason... stop being so gutless...

*** aims for the rest of the season
Coaches to tell it like it is and the players to harden the F*** up!
the whole AFC need to get serious for the rest of the year...!!!
dishing up that shit for the fans to eat is disgraceful... now F*** off and do something about it...
lazy/soft/careless overpaid pricks! and that goes for the players as well...

Merrett is potentially out, he was reported in 4th qtr. May influence our team decisions. Talia has 8 days to recover, hopefully he will be okay.

I'd really love to see Lyons and M Crouch in. Both just had close to 40 touches in the SANFL against decent opposition.

Pods -> Rutten
Wright -> M Crouch
Thompson/Danger/Larid??? -> Lyons

M Crouch plays as the sub with Grigg to get a few qtrs to show us what he's got.
  • Pods was bashed around and gives them an excuse to drop him due to injury. His form isn't good enough. Play Otten forward, Rutten down back.
  • Wright needs to go, he's been woeful for a couple of weeks now. Time to unleash the Double Crouch.
  • Lyons has to come in, not sure who for. Danger and Thompson both don't seem right, but their isn't a willingness to drop them. Laird hasn't been great but can Lyons play a defensive forward role? If not then who does?

In: Shaw, Lyons, Crouch
Out: L Thompson, Wright, Laird

Shaw, while being slightly atrocious in his disposal, is at least a better defender than Thompson. Lyons and Crouch need to be rewarded for SANFL form, and Wright and Laird have had some down weeks. Brodie Martin on notice, make him the sub and ask him to hit a target who isn't under pressure.

If we take out Thomson or danger and play crouch as sub we will be winning 30 less contested
Possesions and with Brisbane's outside run that will probably Cost us the game

Was more about dropping them if they aren't medically fit. Danger was pushed forward a lot in the latter half, was that a deliberate move or was it because he wasn't 100% fit? Thompson's back/hammy issue is still being managed and will be for the rest of the year. He spent a lot of time getting his back worked on. We also have other players that can win contested ball, they just aren't being used in that fashion presently because we have better options. Those better options should only be used if they're fit and able.

Will be a difficult week at selections! What will our coach do??

For me below are changes that I wouldn't mind seeing, won't happen though but I think those players as Out aren't in our future plans:
S. Thompon Out - Lyons In
Martin Out - M. Crouch In
Pods Out - Lynch In
Wright Out - Cameron In
L. Thompson Out - Shaw In
Laird Out - Atkins In

The only player's allowed to handball should be Walker and Crouch. They're the only ones that seem to be able to use it effectively.
