If you forget about who played on Sunday and just pick a side by working through the positions it is interesting to see the results (rather than picking at the edges with ins and outs) This is my team for Perth.

Start with the midfield
* Darcy (picks himself)
* Cooney (most talented midfielder on the list)
* West (smartest operator)
* Cross (currently best bet as a tagger)

Full Forward line
* Faulkner (defensive pressure is good, workrate is good, his teammates need to start using him more)
* Walsh (time for the big kid to get a chance, natural forward)
* Smith (leading target)

Half forwards
* Bowden (smart footballer who works well up to the wing)
* Grant (straighten us up, a level head up forward)
* Johnson (bet small forward in the comp)

Wing
* Eagleton (works hard and deserves his spot)
* Gia (has the smarts to play this position well)

Half Back
* Murphy (plays tall or small - versatile)
* Rawlings (a ready made CHB)
* Gilbee (need his skill coming out of the backline)

Full Back
* Shaggy (plays tall or small - versatile)
* Williams (has the attributes to hold this spot down)
* McMahon (takes best small forward)

Bench
* Minson (best next ruckman come forward)
* Power (versatility)
* Hahn (hardness and game breaking ability)
* Birss (hardness and run)
I think this is a well thought-out selection. Possible changes are Robbo for Faulkiner and Griffen for Eagleton who still gets caught too often on his wrong foot.

My Team for Saturday:

McMahon Rawlings Hargrave

Murphy Grant Gilbee

Gia Cooney Eagleton

Smith Skipper Koops

Faulkner Bowden Johnno

Darcy Hahn West

Minson, Walsh, Cross, Birss

Best options I have seen so far. Can't beleive so many want to drop Faulkner

It's time for Eade to bring in Walsh and tell him that he is in for 3 weeks, no matter how he goes. Play the lad as a tall forward within scoring distance and only take him off when he really needs a break. Reassess the strategy after the 3 weeks. Perhaps he could do the same with Wight as a tall defender.

Thats about the best plan I have read on how to bring a young player into the team and actually give him a chance to succeed.
Most just want them played regardless which generally is a recipe for disaster.

So you want McMahon to play on Matera? Wouldn't you give the job to Murphy.

I would play Hargrave on Matera. Seems better suited playing on smaller opponents. Matera has been out of sorts lately but no doubt we'll play him right back into form :mad:

Especially if we put Hargrave on him (Matera) he will star for the Eagles. Hargrave needs to be HBF or further up towards our goals.

IN: Minson Morgan Walsh Robbins Koops
Out: Bandy Harris Harrison Falkner Boyd

B HARGRAVE MORGAN SHAGGY
HB R MURPHY RAWLINGS GILBEE
C GIO WEST EAGLETON
HF BUBBA BOWDEN ROBBINS
FF WALSH GRANT JOHNO
R DARCY COONEY HAHN
INT CROSS BIRSS MINSON KOOPS
EMER BOYD RAY WILLAMS

thats the way the dogs should line up. its time rawlings stays down back and we get some talls in to the forward line

You can't have Murphy play on Matera because murphy plays best for us as an attacking player in the defence/midfield bring the ball to the forward line. Hargrave would be the best match up.

I also can't believe the amount of people who want to drop Faulkner. He was one of our best this week eventhough he gave away that 50 metre penalty stupidly. But you never jim stynes did the same and look at how good he became for the demons.

We also must put in some height to our forward line and maybe we should play some youth in the team for the next few weeks because we have some tough games the next month in West Coast, Adelaide, Geelong and Brisbane. But i still think we should keep Grant and Rawlings in defence. Rawlings played his best game for the year last week.

In
Morgan, Minson, Walsh and Robbins/Ray(stiff to miss last weeks game)

Out
Harrison, Harris, Bandy and Boyd

Birss or Robbins can play as the spare tagger.

Robbo has to play this week. He is far too good to play in the magoo's and his 5 goals shows he is obviouisly back into the swing of things after his injury. If he played every game forward last year he would have won our goalkicking in a canter

I'd go:

OUT: Harris, Harrison, Bandyman, Faulkner (I didn't think he was great, didn't get a lot of it, and has he kicked a goal this season?)

IN: Walsh (I agree that he should be told he's got about 3 weeks), Robbins, Griffen and Minson or Street. Probably Minson but Streeter seemingly has the benefit of being able to ruck and provide an option up forward

Shouldn't Power also be rewarded with a promotion to the seniors after his BOG?

Good point

out
Bandy [Danno] Harro and Brian

in
Big Will, Robbo and ????? Griffen / Walsh / Sammy

Would've dropped Cam up till last week but think he is starting to come good

While I think (and hope) from what i've seen that Tom Williams will develop into a good senior player, I think it's a little soon for someone who has only been playing our code for a year to be travelling over to Subi and taking on a potential top 4 side - they will expose his lack of knowledge of the game and take him apart! He was drafted for his athletic ability more so than his footballing skills.

I also think we have major problems in the ruck dept.
Darcy - clearly our #1 but it's apparent we also need him up fwd
Bandy - should not be playing in his current form
Minson - while he is a crowd favourite and he's good at hurting people he still has a lot of work to do on his kicking and other parts of his game
Street - makes me laugh when he's trying to follow the ball and i'm not a fan but at least he can take a mark inside 50 and put it through the middle from a set shot!

Actually I'd leave Sam with Werribee. Sam has had ample opportunity to cement a spot and hasn't. He's a young player but has been around for 2 or 3 seasons. I'd be making Sam earn a spot in the 22.

I can accept giving guys like Walsh, Minson, Ray etc a go because they are in their 1st or 2nd year, but Power really needs to step up and 1 game with Werribee where by all accounts it would have been hard not to play a good game for mine is just not enough.

What did you think of his game?
