Griffen apparently played a blinder at East Fremantle. Still, not sure an on-ground back-up for Sandi is a high priority.

I don't really know exactly how well he's done in the WAFL, but Anthony has to be close to getting a chance. rotten luck for him Subiaco having the bye - a strong performance today might have forced his selection.

Crowley.....I don't know.

Interesting thought about Griffin - makes Johnsons ruck backup redundant . Yet why spoil it by recalling Crowley

Why drop Mayne it is not his fault he his played a key foward when he is only a third tall. We need him for our forward pressure to work as well as possible.

I reckon dropping Mayne is a great idea... but that's just me. :)

IMO watching (the second half of) today's game Palmer, Johnson & Roberton (admittedly a sub) were among the weakest links, so keep them in please.

I also reckon Pavlich will cause us more headaches at FF/CHF than on the ball. He plays Glass pretty well and if he pushes further out our only real option is MacKenzie, and that match-up doesn't inspire confidence.

Will our land of the giants forward setup influence the evidently unpopular Johnson/Roberton staying in?

Pavlich causes every team more headaches up forward, 4 goals a game is infinitely more useful than 30 possesions 5 clangers and 0 goals from the centre, unfortunately with some key midfielders out Harves is backing in Pav in the midfield and that is unlikely to change for this game.

You still have Kepler to worry about though

Oh and Johnson will stay, I think he has incriminating photos of Harves.

Based on what i saw on fyfe's injury ive done this to myself in similar situations a few times and it hurts like hell. He'll be very sore tomorrow and id say he'll be 50/50 for this week- they'll prob give him a jab to get him up.

Harves is worried about leg speed- the answer is not walters. That bloke is slow like no other small forward ive seen. Does not deserve a game until he kicks a couple of bags for the Swans. Also i wonder if dropping mayne might cross the selection committees mind- he was pretty piss poor today and a forward who cant kick is useless

I hate to drop Chopper but we need to make a statement and Jack is a proven set shot specialist at AFL level. Play Walters in place of Mayne and slot Viv in where we can fit.The newbies always debut well in Derbies...

I'd drop Mayne and tell him he isn't coming back until he kicks 5 straight in a WAFL game.

Has basically cost us two games with poor kickingi

At least he was in the game! I didn't see too many other forwards leading hard to be taking marks inside our 50 (with the exception of Kep of course). Sure, let's drop someone who had 6 shots at goal and provides the bulk of our forward pressure - especially if Ballas misses with injury

If we're making a statement about poor set shot goal kicking, why don't we drop Pav? He's the biggest culprit this season.

How do you drop people when there is no-one fit/in form to bring in??
exactly my worry.

i worry about MZ, SCOS and Barlow being rushed based on poor performance of others.

Dont drop Pitt, see how little Hill was in his first year, and how much the 22 games benefited him? And Fyfe?

Johnno - yeah, ordinary to put it mildly, but who can cover for him? Maybe McPhee is worth the move down back, with JA in the FF position, Mayne @ CHF passing to him, pressure of set shots can do wonders.

I must have been watching a different game, i didnt think Palmer was that bad.

Clancy, i was happy with his effort.

This isnt our year, and i swear Harvey ran over a chinaman, while driving under a ladder, to avoid the black cat the passed in front of him......

With not acluey and sidchrome man running around 211 could get a real working over. If Zac is playing Ok at WAFL mabey give him a run again.

It is time for MJ to have a rest. Even the umpy's seem to have him as a marked man.

I know very little about our new players so I'll stick with what i think I know.

Out.

Griffen ..sub

Put el capitano in the back line for a while. he was AA centre half back iirc.

The following link: http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_goal_kickers demonstrates just how poorly Mayne and Ballantyne have been with their conversion rate. It is interesting to note that Keplar has actually had less shots than Mayne with far greater success.

Mayne - 10 goals from 21 shots (47.6 %)
Ballantyne - 9/17 (52.9)
Bradley - 15/18 (83.3)

Whilst I appreciate the very valid point that Mayne and Ballantyne bring significant forward pressure, let's not forget that their primary role is to kick goals. Mayne is a particular concern, as many of his misses are from set shots whereas Ballantyne's are often opportunistic.

I am hoping to see JA in this week, but would like to see how the forward line operates with him as an addition to the aforementioned. Exit Johnson, move back, McPhee.

let's drop someone who had 6 shots at goal

He missed 3 absolute sodas that any forward worth their salt should have nailed.

That is just not good enough for a guy who plays as a permenant forward, and the fact is he costs the team with these missed shots. If he'd kicked the 2 he should have kicked in the first quarter who knows how the game would have played out.

Bad kicking is bad football and Mayne does it consistantly. You cannot play someone in the forward line who misses more shots than he kicks.

a year or so ago mayne played up the ground. i preferred him there. Try him there again before dropping him. don't think a hard running, hard tackling midfielder would do us any harm. It's not as though we are drowning in them. forget pav in the midfield. It's time Barry Mitchell was told to look for alternatives. Who's to say when Barlow comes back that someone like mundy doesn't get injured. Then we are back to Pav again. Michell had 2 years to find replacements for Pav in the midfield and he didn't bother.

Haha, love some of the suggestions.

The best thing about our game this year has been our defensive pressure. So I know, lets drop Chris Mayne - our best defensive forward. Yeah, he hasn't been the most accurate but he is still our second leading goal scorer. We would be a much worse team without him chasing the defenders.

We lacked run against Richmond, so lets stack the team with more talls. My favourite was the one who suggested bringing in Clarke and Anthony, plus having Griffin as the sub.

I've said it practically every week, but we can't drop Johnson until Silvagni is fit. We just don't have a replacement. When he was moved forward for 10 minutes yesterday, Duffield ended up on Vickery. Johnson might not be doing a great deal, but he is actually defending his opponent reasonably well.

I know Harvs has said he will make changes, but I don't really see how we could make many without leaving us too tall. Crichton is arguably the only small demanding selection, but he hardly made the most of his chance last match. Schammer has only played 2 games since months off with injury.

In: Anthony
Out: Pearce/Roberton

Both Pearce and Roberton could keep their spots. Roberton just isn't suited to being the sub, he has elite endurance but not elite speed. That counts for nothing when you're coming on in the last quarter. Pearce had a decent game, but I'm not sure where he would play if Anthony came in. Mayne would become the third tall, so Pearce could patrol along the 50 but having both him and Anthony would make us quite a bit slower up forward. Pearce does deserve to keep his spot though.

I think I'm probably just rambling by now, so all I will say is Pitt should be the sub every week.

And yet everyone wants Pav to play forward

A guy who has a conversion rate of about 20% this year and hasn't been able to take contested marks for 3 years.

I'm not for dropping Mayne, apart from his set-shot kicking he is doing everything else right. Dropping him for someone else might make matters worse. We have to play him and just hope that his kicking improves.

I suggest the following training drill: give him 10 set shots at goal. Every one he misses he gets tasered. He'll soon learn how to cope with the pressure.

You are a ****ing moron. How could anyone here possibly suggest dropping the number 1 pressure forward in the league?

Edit: Just looked over all of these changes and maybe this is a joke?

Drop Mayne?

Despite the poor conversion, our forward line is working well. If we were kicking straight, it would be working fantastically well. That's why i'd be reluctant to bring Anthony in - it could change the structure and we might be less effective.

I'd lean towards giving Palmer another crack as well. Johnson and Roberton are numbers 1 and 2 in the firing line IMO.

Agree 100%. Bringing in Clarke/Griffin is probably the dumbest call I have read on Bigfooty.... and there has been plenty of s*** to pick from.
