Warning: radical idea ahead
Okay even without the Covid protocols we were almost certain of not being in the GF. Now it's even less likely.

So let's get into the left field. We completely forget about 2022 and solely focus on 2023. We give our great players a light year given most are getting on a bit and just play every fringe player. Why burn out our ageing champs in a meaningless year?

For example, rest NN for the year. Then by years end we know who out of BWilliams, Jamieson and Strdnica will be our no 2 ruck next year. JK rests for the year as does Hurn (or they retire). Yeo etc take a few months off to be 100%. And the other champs play say 10 games for the season just to keep some touch and to mentor the kids. Sure we end up getting belted week in week out (and so get good draft picks) but by the start of next year we have an excellent idea of whether HEdwards, LEdwards, Trew, XON, West, Naish, Joyce, Langdon, Petro etc etc etc are really up to it. And hopefully give our champs a bit more spring in their step.

I can hear the cavalry coming - full of criticism. But, supporters easily accept their team won't be in the GF when they are 'rebuilding'. My idea is just to take this one big step further. Is there any rule that says we have to play our best available 22 each week? I can't imagine the AFL saying you must select e.g. NN.

Unlike supporters of some (lesser) clubs I only want to win GFs. Let's be a bit creative about this.

You have to look at facts and think, not just rearrange your prejudices to suit the situation. Asking too much perhaps.
From last weeks list all our ins strengthen our team, JK is aging and should not travel - he struggles to compete at home. Barrass is the only player out that weakens us tructurally, event so we have two key defenders in.

Leadership is about leading to achieve results, not making excuses. This smells of the HUB again - poor old us.

Do you have inside knowledge of the other 7 or 8 players that were originally listed but are also now going to miss or you're just assuming they are no big loss?

Imagine if we actually win.
Will that say more about our never lie own die hard spirit, hard to keep a straight face after that.
Will North be outright wooden spoon favorites to be ridiculed all week?

Like been said many times, actually looking forward to it, just hate the time. Worse than a Sunday evening game.

Unfortunately that spirit, if it indeed still exists, has only been seen in fleeting glimpses on a handful of occasions since 2018.

I fully expect us to get rolled, and rolled badly.

Cunning plan:

1. Fit players go round to infected players houses. Share water bottles, utensils, etc
2. Tackle like madmen vs Norf. Im talking racking up the largest tackle count in AFL/ VFL history numbers. Scoring is secondary.
3. Sit back and wait for the AFL season to be cancelled in 4-6 weeks
4. Get a Top 3 draft pick for being at the bottom of the ladder when the season was cancelled
5. Win yet another premiership before Freo get their first

This argument would have held up yesterday when we had 5 players out

Not so much today when we’re learning that there’s possibly another 7 players who’ll miss to be replaced by top up players

I watched Simpsons press conference in full and not once did he whinge. Just said it was a challenge but we have to deal with it

You obviously were not at the game last week. Unlike Hutchings who made it onto the field albeit in a topless car. JK never stopped competing at both halves of the ground. In our fwd half he was usually competing against two and sometimes 3 opposing players. You need to actually get to see more games live .....then you might have some idea of what is going on.

Haven’t caught up with today’s news?

We’ll literally be fielding players that will be introduced to their teammates on the flight over.

Ah, the Melbourne solution which they got fined for.

You just gave a textbook definition of tanking

If you’re not looking forward to this game and just pissing yourself laughing every time you think about the sheer absurdity of what we’re about to witness, you’re doing this all wrong.

Everyone thought we’d be bad this year. Even the most optimistic fan had us as a fringe finalist, and that was before preseason.

It’s Round 2 and we’ve already provided more entertainment to the fans than we have since the flag. Get on board with it or get out of the way, this is going to be amazing.

Some sick part of me wants to see this lineup against a Melbourne or Brisbane at the Gabba, really test the limits of just how many points an AFL team can score against a WAFL side. This is already so much better than having expectations and finishing outside the top four. Best season in living memory.

Sad that it's still another 2 hours until the team is revealed. Gonna be a long wait...

We’re fielding 17-18 AFL listed players on Sunday including Jack Williams and Callum Jamieson, three WAFL top ups, an assistant coach and whichever member of the Victorian cheer squad finds the post-it note stuck to the bottom of their seat.

But we should definitely be expecting to win. No excuses lads.

A proper coach would just give all the players a spray until they weren’t in the Covid protocols anymore. No hunger from Simmo as usual.

Do you know how long a light year is? They won't live that long!

Lets just start pulling membership numbers out of a hat for next week's team.

Ffs, just heard that our starting full forward wasn’t able to get Sunday off work so he can’t play anymore. Backup ruck also promised his missus that they’d go looking for a new dryer and has already put it off twice, so that’s another one down.

Still, no excuses thanks.

Any WCE member with a number under 2,000 is likely to be an octogenarian.

Mind you, I’m not saying that wouldn’t make for great viewing…

I wouldnt be averse to watching ol' Mavis lay a (steel) hip and shoulder on Michael Walters, if only to watch him go down like he was shot from a grassy knoll.
