Come on Mike, I know you favour the pessimistic side of things (you probably call it realistic), but it's a Prelim. One step away from a Grand Final. Enjoy it. Two steps closer than we've been the last few years already and just one step from the big one.

Feels different to 2016 for obvious reasons, but I'm going to sit back and watch us get to work. I have huge faith in this side. Been a hell of a year, no reason we can get it done Saturday night.
No I'm definitely on the pessimistic side. But it's sad how often I'm right.

We'll wait and see. Overall though ecstatic with the last two weeks.

We will. 17 wins and 7 losses for the season so far.

This team keep surprising us, I think we've got a few (hopefully two) more surprises in us yet.

Plenty of things for us all to be down about at the moment, but win, lose or draw, footy ain't one of them.

We've had more than our fair share of heartbreak in Prelims over the years, the footy gods still owe us. Let's bring home the bacon.

Go Dogs!

They always say the game is won in the midfield, and thats the one part of the team that is complete.
Port are no superteam and we're still a chance to beat them.
Can’t be sure about that until they run out.

If Bont was not going to be fit they’d still probably select him on Thursday and only make the change at the last minute. Partly to give him every chance to come good and partly to keep Port guessing.

I think it’s likely he’ll start but I doubt he’ll be 100%. Maybe he will spend some time at half forward? We have plenty of others who can run through the middle.

Keath is our irreplaceable, as we have no other KPD’s good enough to play on the best forward.

I think Bevo will play Cordy on Dixon as he never gives Ryan the best forward.

i would prefer Ryan on Dixon, play off him and then spoil. He could also exploit Dixon massively on kick ins and run off him like Keath did.

The glass broke when Keath was out because we can‘t afford clean centre clearances by Port as neither Cordy or Gardiner could compete with Dixon In these circumstance. This is why I think Martin plays. If we win the clearance we are still a chance.

I expect to lose now and we have an excuse but still hope our midfield can dominate, win the game and Keath and Weightman returns and we win the GF
Keith is a big loss, but Bevo's philosophy is similar to the all blacks. No player is irreplaceable. Cordy has experience in finals. Port have more to lose than us. They would be really worried about us.

Mitch Hannan, Ryan Gardner and Rourke Smith in the same prelim final side, there's something you will never see again....

Adelaide area
Mostly sunny morning, partly cloudy afternoon. High (80%) chance of showers, most likely in the late afternoon and evening. Winds northwesterly 15 to 25 km/h turning westerly 20 to 30 km/h in the late morning

Clay Smith, Fletcher Roberts, Shane Biggs in the 2016 GF.

Every team needs role players. Every player has a job to do and we need our 22 to each do their jobs.
Clay Smith and Shane Biggs were more than role players, Roberts wasn't as a concern as Gardner, if he goes one on one with Dixon watch the contested marks start to tally up

We are a live chance in a preliminary final.

The amount of negativity in this thread is astonishing..

I am struggling to believe our captain's leadership is being questioned, this week of all weeks. The same bloke that was literally just voted best leader in the game by his peers and has dragged us over the line countless times.

Losing Keath and Cody isn't ideal. Keath missing wasn't the reason we lost to Essendon. Our midfield got smashed in the clearances and our conversion was absolutely horrific. Keath came back for the Hawks game and we looked even worse.

We are a different team now. That belief, hunger and desperation that went missing for 3 weeks is back.

We can absolutely win this.

The delite of having Martin included is balanced by he horror of losing Keath but we all need to remember how well Schache played when swung back over the last 4 or so games. Schache is still in the team along with Wood, Durea and Daniel. That makes for a very solid defensive unit along with Gardiner and Cordy.
You’d hope that with a bullocking Martin in the middle our mids will be able to gain some control and apply a lot of pressure to any opposition F50 entries. As we know this is what our backline thrives on… pressure upfield.
I’m excited!

As mentioned yesterday I’m really jealous of those who have remained positive following Keath’s injury. I’d say the 3 players we could least afford to lose as Bont, Keath and Naughton. One is out and one other carrying an injury.

Schache simply must play back to intercept. If Cordy gets caught in one on ones vs Dixon he’ll kick a bag.

I think if we’re relying on Schache going back and playing out of his skin intercepting we’ve already lost, sounds simple but I think we just have to kick goals tonight, win the midfield battle, dominate forward half possession and put scoreboard pressure on

I’ve come around. I’m now an optimist.

Dunkley needs to go to Wines.

If Wines is out of the game it gives us the luxury of playing Bontempelli forward because I trust our midfield of Macrae, Treloar, Smith and Hunter (with a tagging Dunkley) to overcome their midfield minus Wines.

That then gives us the luxury of a Bont/English/Schache forward line whilst potentially having a Naughton/Gardner/Cordy back line. The defence is still a worry but assuming we are on top in the midfield then I have faith.
